  1. Iā€™ve read a few posts blaming Win 11 for audio issues claiming it is unsuited for audio.Ā
I been using Win 11 on my laptop for about 6 weeks or so and have not encountered any issues dealing with CbB or any other DAW.
My Win 10 compatible drivers all happily work with Win 11 and apart from the layout changes to Windows, Iā€™ve not experienced any differences between Win 10 or Win 11 as respects audio Ā

This coming week Iā€™ll likely migrate my Studio PC to Win11 as well.Ā

  2. Iā€™ve had a Soundgrid system forĀ 6Ā years or so. No problem with Cakewalk or Sonar beforehand.Ā
    Ā

I have anĀ IOS server/Interface and an IOX for additional routing and IO.Ā
    Ā

Iā€™ve had health issues that have hampered me the last couple of years so havenā€™t done a great deal but Iā€™ve used multiple DAWS without any real problems.Ā
    Ā

Thereā€™s a learning curve with the initial setup and how you use the whole Soundgrid system with aĀ DAW but once youā€™ve mastered it alls good.Ā
    Ā

Iā€™ll probably need a refresher when I get back to it.Ā
    Ā

I also run a Raven touch screen to give me full control but I use that more with Cubase as thereā€™s a dedicated overlay for it whereas, because Cakewalk is touch enabled out of the box Steven Slate didnā€™t ever make a specific Cakewalk overlay.Ā
    Ā

itā€™s really a whole other subject and it makes my setup a bit of a monster to run. With constant health issues itā€™s been a bit hard to get into a rhythm and establish a smooth workflow.Ā Ā
    Ā

And yes I like it. I find Waves are generally very responsive to questions and the software has been very stable ie the Soundgrid driver (which is just updated to V 13)Ā along with the rest of the software. Iā€™m a big Waves fan and have all their plugins.
In more than 35 yearsĀ Iā€™ve tried RME hardware, Presonus, Mackie, MOTU, AVID and heaps of other hardwareĀ and when the WavesSoundgrid stuff came out I Jumped from RME and never looked back. The preamps are excellent, the driver is really stable Ā and latency has become a thing of the past. Ā Iā€™ll be interested to try out the new driver.Ā
Anyways Iā€™ve rambled on a bit. Let me know how you go.Ā

  3. Because I was only seeing the VST2 version I moved the VST2Ā Waveshell file out of the scan path. This made the VST3 version show up in CbB. AfterĀ I moved the VST2 Waveshell file back nothing has changed and the VST3 version remains available. Problem solved even thoughĀ I don't know exactly why.

I have the following settings in VST preferences. see pic.Ā 1074784759_2022-03-09(1).thumb.png.1c55ccbdf5aa953328e63fa2b93bcca7.pngĀ

  4. Sorry youā€™re having these problems.Ā
    Ā

    Something from your post really stands out for me, the following;

ā€thereĀ is noĀ way in hellĀ I'm going toĀ put this on my studio computer, luckily I still haveĀ my trustedĀ X3 PE on the studio computer, which since I bought it someĀ time ago, has NEVER let me down,Ā ā€œ

So youā€™re running CbB on a different computer to X3PE which you say is on your Studio PC Ā Ā
    Ā

Iā€™m having trouble understanding how you can compare the performance and stability of CbB on a completely different computer to your stable studio one where youā€™re running X3.

Including myself, I know multiple people who run versions of Sonar in parallel to CbB on the same machine without problem. I donā€™t need the Sonar versions except for V-VocalĀ

Anyway there seems to be plenty of room for doubt about your conclusions. Ā Still you should do what you think works best for you.Ā

  5. The following link is for my whole CAL repository. Itā€™s stored in my OneDriveĀ feel free to download the lot. The majority of the files are in the zip archive. Ā The link is good go a week.Ā

. BTW - Iā€™m no CAL programmer or expert of any kind so I can only help with the resources above. Hope it helps. Itā€™s everything I could find on the Net about CAL.

  6. Ive not seen anyone mention this:Ā

The bottom line is that hardwareĀ does break so aĀ long shot; is it possible that the USB port you are connecting to is faulty. Try another one. Try another device in the port in question.

Sometimes Power settings deep in the advanced power management settings of windows can cause USB ports to shut down prematurely.Ā

  7. The updates over the Bandlab years have contributed much toĀ the Cakewalk Reference Guideā€™s usability.Ā

While large, its been pared down by several hundred pages yet becoming a more polished reference with every iteration.

    Ā

I really appreciate the effort going into it. There is so much depth to Cakewalkā€™s feature set that the Guide exposes.Ā I recommend all users get more familiar with it.

  8. Suggest you contactĀ @Jim Roseberry,Ā heā€™s a long time Cakewalk user, musician and his company, Studio Cat make DAWs among other systems.Ā

He also consults (for a modest fee) and will provide a parts list for a self build.Ā

itā€™s a great service because he knows which bits are compatible, reliable and suitable for your specific needs.Ā

contact him at the above through this forum Ā

  9. I have a dual cassette deck, a VHS recorder, even a standalone CD/DVD player recorder - just in case but itā€™s been years since Iā€™veĀ had any use for them.Ā
I have a similar timeline that covers PCs and their ancient OSā€™s going back to win 98se I think,
in the end I use Win 10 21H1 ItsĀ the latest designation I think.Ā
I believe the reality of working with technology is to work at the front of the development line not bringing up the rear.Ā
There was a time when having the ability to time travel to meet a clients needs meant something, now itā€™s just a cluttered mess that would be better off in a museum than taking up precious space at my place. The various OSā€™s are simply images taking up a few gigs of space on a hard drive with some limited ancillary hardware to make it work if needed. Canā€™t remember the last time I did however.Ā

Yes assuming you don't have the VMs going to sleep or similar (I have one program - game! - that stops when it loses mouse focus, but yours are designed to run without user intervention so I can't see this being an issue).

I'd be more "concerned" about whether the VM can access any physical hardware it needs to - that can be tricky sometimes.

Thanks Kevin for helpful info. Iā€™ve never run a VM so know nothing of the vagaries involved.Ā

Thanks Jack, Clearly thereā€™s more suitable places than here for Ā in-depth information , however I saw it as a simple Yes or no type answer.Ā Ā
AlsoĀ it was just convenient to ask as I was on the forum here, saw the Computer section and noted that the rules for posting hereĀ didnā€™t expressly forbid such a question even though not music or Cakewalk related.Ā Ā

  11. My Music PC (Win 10 Pro Latest version) has 6 HDD 1 x Ā M.2 NvMEĀ and 2 SSD. I want to setup a Virtual Machine to run Home Assistant as a trial along with some other home automation programs.. Will all the programs setup to be running on the VM continue to run when I switch back to Win 10 Pro side of things.

Assume the PC will be on 24/7.

Suggestions/advice welcome. Thanks in advance of being overwhelmed by positive and useful responses.

As an experienced electronics technician, I can tell you that all electronics are powered by magic smoke. It is injected in the final phase of manufacture. I know this because if the magic smoke ever escapes, the device ceases to work. If you don't believe it, try drilling into your CPU and see what happens.

Nothing quite like spending hours diagnosing a fault, thinking youā€™ve found and fixedĀ it, only to release the magic smoke; again.Ā
    Acquainted well with magic smoke I am.Ā Ā Ā

  13. Now donā€™t you feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Iā€™m sure your past clients will appreciate your contrition. Ā šŸ™‚

Ā Now how long did you dither over making this confession?

    Ā

  14. You need to be sure what source you are actually monitoring/hearing.

You may be moving a fader but not really monitoring/listening to that buss.Ā

If youā€™re new to this then check out the Reference Guide for a picture that shows how audio is routed throughout Cakewalk. See the section on Signal Flow starting on page 943. That will give you a general overview.

You can download the most recent Cakewalk Reference Guide from May 2021Ā https://bandlab.github.io/cakewalk/docs/Cakewalk Reference Guide.pdf

Links to updates are posted in the main Cakewalk by Bandlab page in theĀ pinned threads above.

  15. Audio benefits more from processor clock speed than it does in the number of processing threads/cores. Thats just the way it is and theres no setting to change that.

You maybe referring to the meter thatĀ Cakewalk displays showing how the various cores are utilised. Youā€™ll notice that thereā€™s at least one that seems like it is being over utilised at the expense of the others. Thats natural though as audio is a really a single threadedĀ process not spread across a number of cores. Itā€™s just not something that can be manipulated in multiple parallel streams. Just the nature of the beast. While there are numerous processes involved that will be handled by other threads, the bulk of the processing power goes to the audio which will be handled by one thread.

Now Iā€™m just a layman and trying to keep it simple as I understand it. Iā€™m sure that someone may come along and do a much better job of explaining it but that wont make a difference to the bottom line which is as I stated in my opening comment. Youā€™d be much better off with a processor at 5.0 GHzĀ with 8 cores than one at 4.0 GHzĀ with 16 cores. Hope that helps even though its not what youā€™d like to hear.

  16. Itā€™s a book I bought not long after the MIDI 1.0 spec was released. Not only didĀ Craig Anderson write that book Iā€™m pretty sure he was involved with the group who originally setup the MIDI 1.0 spec. He knows what heā€™s on about pretty much in most things musical.

While itā€™s a great book for the absolute basics MIDI has evolved to become much more expansive over the decades.
