  1.  I posted last Saturday on a thread this was before Jesse started fixing the problem. I never got any notifications from that thread and now it's closed. But last night I posted in a different thread and got a notification today. So this notification problem appears to be fixed for me. If anyone else is not getting notifications, post here.

    A few more opinions...

The main music delivery system used to be speakers, so I mixed on those and used headphones as a reality check. Now the situation is reversed, I think at this point headphones may be the dominant music delivery system (I don't consider laptop speakers and their ilk as relevant, I mean what people actually listening to music use).

As such, a lot of people use earbuds. The ones designed for telephone use tend to be more like open-back headphones, but quite a few insert into the ear canal, and are more like closed-back headphones.

The conventional wisdom is to use open-back headphones because they sound more natural, i.e., more open than closed-back headphones and somewhat more like speakers. However, I simply don't know if that's equivalent to how most consumers hear music these days.

My main headphones are the closed-back KRK KNS-8400, because of course, you  need closed-back earphones for tracking. But just as we used to mix over multiple speaker systems to get an average, I mix over multiple sets of headphones, and do the reality check on speakers. Mixes done on the KNS-8400 actually do translate well, but only when mixing on them at low volumes, because then you don't have any issues with sound waves bouncing around inside the cup, and you don't get the listening fatigue problems typically associated with closed-back earphones.

Ultimately, I think the best option is a set of closed-back headphones for tracking, open-back alternating with closed-back for mixing, and of course, good speakers. I start my mixes on headphones, and end up on speakers. Tweaks I make to accommodate speakers always make the mixes sound better over headphones as well. I also have multiple sets of headphones, from Ultrasones with treble that will rip your head off, to Beats that have a response worse than Apple's white iPhone earbuds, to the KNS-8400, to really nice open-back AKGs. A mix that sounds good on all my phones has at least a fighting change of sounding decent on playback over the zillions of different systems out there :)Hope this helps.

Very good advise and when he can afford them, get good studio monitors, headphones can be deceiving.

I get notifications when i visit the forum. Both quotes and likes works ok.

I do not get any emails.

I have triplechecked my settings and changed it so that everything should send email. Both in this forum and at the bandlab homesite.

I use windows live for my email and have done so since they abandoned outlook express. I have never had the need to search for missing email. Either i get email or it shows up a couple of days later. I get email that is marked as possible fishing attempt. I have to make my own rules in my local email client to have them go into the spamfolder. And in windows live email i can clearly see that i got an email in the different folders.

Hmm...now a memory show up in my head. If i remember correct i was asked if i wanted to download the email to my client or have them stored at Microsoft and just read them with my client. I choosed to download all to my client.

That's why i think the problem is not the email providers.

Added. I did not get an email about the fact that you quoted me. But as soon as i logged in i could see the red number above the notification icon and there also was a popup notification window at the bottom of the browser window. Which is Firefox. But i have occasionally logged in with Chrome too and i can't see any difference in behaviour.

I used Outlook Express and then Live Mail all with emails on my computer. I don't like the idea of trusting some website to save my emails. Check out EM Client, it's a free email program I use now that can import all the Live Mail folders and emails. I like it a lot more than Live Mail, which had it's quirks.

I'm set to following anonymously which is why I'm not in that list - I suspect Jesse has it set the same.

I'm still getting email notifications without any problems though.

I've got my settings set to what @Jesse Jost has recommended above.

I guess it's possible that some email providers are rejecting the emails even before they get to you. I've had no end of problems with sending bulk emails to gmail accounts, and have had to jump through hoops to get my server un-blacklisted on more than one occasion. Though, at least I've actually had some success with gmail... btinternet on the other hand, I've had no joy with.

BandLab are more than likely unaware that these emails are being rejected. With millions of users, I doubt if they have any other option but to delete any failure emails they get back, else their inbox would be constantly filling up with them.

I've never had problems receiving emails from anyone that I couldn't solve. It has always been user error.

I don't ever remember seeing any forum posts in the old forum about not getting email notifications. A while back Meng even chimed in as to not be getting notifications. I'm sure he knows how to change his settings . I feel like this is Cakewalk's problem, not some random email quirk.

  5.  I checked the icon in this forum on the top right they says notifications and even that is very incomplete for instance there are no notifications listed for Jesse, or msmcleod,  and only 1 for Billy86. I even have a tech support ticket started on 5/27. No one seems to have any answers or explanations and little acknowledgment that we have a problem here.

Thanks guys, we'll look into this.

In the meantime, here's a little disambiguation in case it's helpful to anyone - this system utilizes email and notification lists, which are two different methods for alerting you to activity. For example:

    image.png

If you've enabled "Notify me of replies" on one of your posts, a chime or popup in your browser represents the notification, an email is not sent.

So in addition to selecting top level notification options, also be sure your preferred notification methods are selected in the area below:

    image.png

Thanks for explaining the 2 methods. My settings are like yours and have been since day 1 and I've never gotten an email notification. Many times my computer speaker is turned off, I don't care for chime notifications.

I hope you can get this solved, I've been communicating with Amon form tech support about this and he doesn't have any answers at this time. Maybe he's not using the forum and in the loop like you are, so maybe you'd be better at solving this.

Last I heard, not even Meng was getting notifications. I'm sure if you can figure out why he's not getting notifications this will fix it for all of us.

I'll be happy to work with you or Amon to try things and get this worked out and finally fixed. Thanks for your suggestions.

  7. Here's more important info for those still using V-Vocal.

After further testing I found that with 2019.03 and 2019.05 the first V-Vocal clip many times is a problem and after that it's fine. The problem can be a blank V-Vocal screen or a crash.

I've found the best method is to first disconnect all softsynths in the Synth rack, save the CWP, close CbB, wait 6-10 sec then Double click the CWP. With this method I'm getting no crashes or blank screens with V-Vocal.

None of this may be necessary if you don't use any soft synths. In my situation I use a lot of soft synths and as long as they're disconnected V-Vocal behaves. I think it has something to do with old 32 bit plugins or programs only being able to use 4 Gigs of RAM even though you have a lot more RAM.

The reason I think it's this is because when I disconnect all synths I end up with 3.8 gigs of RAM and V-Vocal works ok. With them connected I have 6.1 of RAM in use and V-Vocal crashes.

AS far as the pausing after closing CbB and then reopening. I think this is something that's universal with CbB. It seems to need a few seconds to gather itself before restarting CbB.

I experimented with how much pause is needed and for me using a fast SSD boot drive it's about 6 sec. If CbB is not open wait 10 sec more then Double click again, but don't repeatedly double click without pausing. I've done that and it can go on for minutes.

Once I've gotten past the initial crash or blank screen right after disconnecting softsynths, then I've had it do over 50 V-Vocal clips with no crash. So if you use my method above, you should almost never get a crash or blank screen.

FWIW, in my spare time I run a CMS business, and email is by far my biggest headache.

The free email providers such as gmail and yahoo are constantly rejecting emails at the server level before they even get as far as the recipients' spam folder. Some ISP provided email addresses are the worst offenders. I even started a gmail account specifically for gmail recipients, which worked for about a month before I got reports that emails weren't getting through.

Worse still, is the fact that contacting them leads to a dead end or just being fobbed off by them saying it must be a problem my end.

It isn't a problem my end. It's their servers that are actively rejecting the emails.

I suspect a similar thing is happening with the Cakewalk emails. I doubt if it's Cakewalk's fault.

.Thanks for the email info. I didn't realize Gmail and yahoo reject emails before making it to the spam folder. That seems insane, presumptuous, and very stupid.

My email server has a spam folder, but I've changed the settings so that nothing goes to my spam folder instead it all comes to me and suspected spam has SPAM added to the end of the subject line. This is great, it makes it easy to weed out.

I have gotten emails with SPAM written on them and the customers weren't sure why that happened. In my music business whenever I have a conversation online or phone with someone, I tell them I'd like to have an email connection, since it's better for sending mp3's and more reliable than Messenger, etc. Sometimes I have to tell them to check their spam folder, but so far I've not had a situation that we couldn't solve.

As far as Cakewalk, I've gotten announcement emails and tech support emails just fine from them, yet nothing ever from the forum, I decided to contact them about this and see if maybe I should delete my account and create a new one. I know somehow they got my old login name from the Sonar forum, I don't remember about the password, but maybe I'm using the same password too.

I never had any problems with email notifications from the old Sonar forum, so I'm betting that this is some kind of weird glitch in the Cakewalk system that we can get to the bottom of. Once we do I'll post a notice and ask them to also post a notice, so everyone can start getting emails, not just a few.

  9. I backup my 3 computers every night to a backup HD and then I backup the backup HD to the cloud using Backblaze ($50/yr for unlimited) It took me about 4 months to backup everything to the cloud. I'm still adding some things.

Any of us can have a computer disaster no matter how careful we are, so if your computers and data are important to you, you need to have a working plan. I also double check my backup every night to make sure it's doing what it needs to do. Paranoia is a good thing when it comes to backing up. It may save your butt from the unexpected.

  10.  It's heartening to see at least email notifications for some are working. I just went to my account settings and changed my email to my Gmail email to see if that fixes it. If it does I may switch back to my main email and see if simply changing it makes it work or whether the system just likes typical emails like Gmail. I'll definitely post back here on the results. This may enable others to fix this if I'm successful

Email notifications seem to be working fine for me.

I definitely get email notifications for PM's.

For particular posts however, you have to be following the post to be notified by email. Depending on what your settings are, this either means clicking the "Follow" link up at the top right of the topic, or having automatic following set up.

You also have to ensure you've set the appropriate options up in your account's notification settings:

    image.png.8d75f9ca931548e0bf765065a1591fc3.png

I've looked at my settings several times and they've always been set right. I just made a change in my settings and hit save and then changed it back and hit save again. Let's see if that fixes it.. Is your email address a common one like Gmail? Mine is my own domain email gp@gprecordingstudio.com

Also I wonder if the way you receive email is a factor even as implausible as that sounds. I virtually never get my email from my email web server, instead I download all the emails as POP3 to EM Client on my computer, so  have a record of all emails on my HD. I never use IMAP. I also make sure I get all my emails. Anything my server thinks is spam it still sends to me but adds the word SPAM in the subject

Have you always received email notifications from CbB or has this only started recently? I think you're one of the few that receives emails.

  12.  I virtually never use pitch correction on my pro demo singers - no need to anymore than Paul McCartney or Paul Simon. I record a lot of independent artists for their album projects and they all need a lot of help.

I record lots of vocal performances and pick out the best lines and then tune them up. I have a lot of patience and I enjoy bringing the best out of them and fortunately get paid by the hour to performs miracles.

Pitch correction makes all the difference in the world in these situations.  I like a more organic natural sound, so my productions don't sound corrected, it just sounds like they nailed it.

  13. 7 to 10 was the easiest most problem free upgrade I've ever done. I didn't have to upgrade from scratch. The upgrade upgraded my Win 7 computer and also my Win 8 computer. I didn't have to reinstall any programs. It was a free upgrade, not sure if you can still get it free.

You can also download an ISO file so you can have a Win 10 install CD that also has a recovery console to fix install problems and you can use to to install Win 10 from scratch.

I'd suggest saving your Win 7 HD and boot to it if you need to. And clone that HD and upgrade Win 10 with that HD
