  1.    The now have 2 new budget interfaces even though K Audio 6 is a great budget interface.

BTW they brought Carbon VST back.

I got to see the new A25 controller in the local GC.  At $159 I kinda want one.

Such an amazing synth.  Takes time to get your head around it, but it is amazing.

There are extra patches in the Image Line forums as well.

MVP and Groove have tutorials. There's also Seamless Channel on youtube.   It's actually easier than it looks.

    Thanks Larry.

After updating my Waves plugins the Waves license files could not be found (as reported during the CbB scan at startup).

I keep the licenses on my C drive and Waves Central showed that they were there.

Anyway, using Waves Central I moved them from C to the cloud and then back again from the cloud to C and they now scan fine. 😕

    Go figure.

This is one of the reasons I will stop using Waves.   I don't have quirks like this with other plugins.

    Steev,

Beating a dead horse here, but with the Pro version of Win10, you can shut down (disable) all automatic updates.

Once configured, Win10 won't download any updates.

If you've got the Home version of Win10, automatic updates can't be fully disabled.

Which is totally stupid unless the aim is to get people to buy Pro.   Since W10 was a free upgrade I have to wonder if MS put their best people on it since ever update s continue to cause issues with the average user.   I had to revert a couple of times because it  broke the home network and shared drives.

The OP is Erik, and I think he's pretty much figured out what the problem was. We are just continuing this conversation as it's developed. Erik still jumps in from time to time!  : )

I ran an Athlon DAW for years. In fact I was running that machine as my main DAW and had an Intel q6600 in my home PC. Had Sonar loaded on both and was constantly surprised at how that Athlon did a better job than the Q6600. Granted the Athlon was running XP SP2 and the Intel had Vista!!

But when Win 7 came out I put it on the Q6600 and then upgraded my Athlon machine to i7 2600 with WIn7. And that thing is still going strong with Win10. It does get bogged down when I start mixing down, but I just increase the buffers and it just keeps rolling on. It has an older AMD video card in it that was new at the time, but not top of the line at all.

When AMD came out with Ryzen I was really hopeful that it would put them back in the game and it did. I know that Intel still has the best single core brute strength, but AMD is, like Jim said, doing better with multicore programs. You can build a great video workstation for less money using AMD.

Way off topic now! : )

I still have a Q6000 machine. To bad my board can't overclock it.   I liked the AMD FX series.  I still use a FX6300.  I liked the previous AMD platform since it ran many processors.  Intel started platform jumping. Since I don't do any life performance or recording I don't need Intel's latest and greatest.   Intel is somewhat pricey again and even Apple may be looking into making their own processor.

For those on a budget there are still some great Intels. I think last week Frys had a 6 core i5 for under $200.

I love it.     It's one of the three libraries in their Randomizer series.   Aerkord combines bowed , ethnic winds, and vocals.  Abstrung is strings.  Vesper is "bells and twinkly things."    I bought Aerkord and Vesper after  I got a deal on Abstrung in a sale like this one, and really liked it.

This is a steal at the price.   It's a very powerful instrument that sounds beautiful, and can also come up with some really unusual sounds through its engine.    The Audiofier "Randomizer" series is not about presets so much as hitting the randomizer button a lot and getting some unexpected results, which you can save.

You shouldn't think of it as a Rompler with a lot of deep instruments.  It's all about the way you mutate and warp the sounds with effects, reversed sounds,  arps and sequencers, etc.  But if you want to keep it simple and just combine two sounds -- a Vocal Ah and a Duduk, say, it can do that too.  That's what I mostly do.

If you want to get the most out of it you need to watch the Audiofier videos on YouTube.  All the Randomizers essentially work the same.

The one caution I would make is that it is 22 GB and for some reason it takes a while to load on a regular hard drive.  I have it on an SSD and it's not instant, but it's decent.  Once it's loaded you're good to go.

Audiofier is an amazing company.  I'm very curious about their new Riffendium.

I've read that resaving them in Kontakt will speed them up.   If I keep buying these libraries it takes away money for a big SSD.   I'm a sucker for these.

Personally, I would never use onboard graphics in my main DAW. I do use them with my Surface Pro. And it works great for getting ideas down.

But if you have no other choice, I would go for the AMD Ryzen solution. They have much APU than nVida or Intel.

They are much improved.   I could see it in a dedicated DAW.    It depends on the video card but some really consume power.

My first Melda purchase was from AudioDeluxe.com It looks like the're a week behind currently, which isn't bad because MAtouVolume is a great buy if you don't own it!  They are on PlugBoutique.com too.

In case you're new to Melda, you can get an additional 20% off the price by using someone's referral code on the Melda site. ( Mine is "MELDA2490257"  ...or use a friend's.)

Slighty off topic fanboy rant: The Melda plugins are just getting better and better, or I'm starting to appreciate them more. I picked up MTurboReverb and MTurboCompressor on the Xmas sale at PluginDeals recently, and holy crap!  I can't imagine needing another reverb! It is THAT good!  And I have barely scratched the surface.

MAutoVolume and MAutoAlign have been regular go-to's for awhile - and MAutoDynamicEQ.   And just look at all of the qulaity plugins in the FREE bundle!  He recently added a really decent Convo Reverb and the new MRatioMB.  Here's a Chandler video MRatio.  Then add the Melda multi-band module to that and wow.

I can't say enough about these plugins. Granted, there is quite a learning curve - at least for me - but it's so worth it!  ...And  @Chandler 's videos have been a huge help in showing off some of the features and making these plugins even more accessible.  His video on  Thanks Chandler!

I think your are right.   I think Melda decides on Monday while the vendors send sales out on Sunday.   I'd prefer the 3rd party vendor since Melda does euros and the pricing can be off in US dollars.

12-sided Dude! Now we're talkin! I didn't know that Pricewatch was still around. Party like it's 1999.

Buying graphics cards for my trailing-edge systems has been my achilles heel. It's always about "will it play Halo?"

I, too am a Vegas baby, still light up my copy of 10 Pro from time to time, so if you say that this pup works a treat with Emily's Optiplex and Vegas and Cakewalk....this info is GOLD.

My main system is an Optiplex 7010. It has a Gen 2 Pci-e slot for a video card. I need to drive a monitor with a DVI port and a Display Port and another monitor with an HDMI port, so the card you showed me would work with my Display Port to HDMI adaptor.

I lean toward nVidia cards rather than AMD because of past troubles with Mixcraft and general lore in the DAW world. However, if you have empirical first-hand knowledge, that counts for a great deal with me.

Interesting.  Some guys on another forum are going with AMD cards.  This of course is about the recent generation of cards. Buying graphics card is an achilles heel period.  If you get one for gaming there are enough incompetent game developers that can render cards useless to make Apple envy.

Yes, wushowhide CAN hide the W10 version updates, just like any other update. Windows update will not download and run any hidden updates.  This tool even works in Windows 10 Home.

But the little trick is you must hide them before Windows update finds them.

One thing to be wary of is that MS sometimes re-releases an update, which can make it available again even after you have hidden it, because it is  now a new version of the update. Like a game of whack-a-mole.

I updated both machines to 1809 and lucky for me it didn't mess up my network.    Usually turn off password protection sharing is broken and I have to revert. Maybe they canned the developer who breaks this.

You can't pick and choose from the Windows update screen anymore, but you can hide the ones you wish to avoid before checking. Once you check, you will open up the chute for anything that is not hidden from Windows to come rolling downhill, LOL!

Use the little MS utility "wushowhide" to hide unwanted updates.  I have saved a shortcut icon on my desktop for it.

BTW this will not stop updating a newer version of W10.

Yup, I generally hide the new releases for 6 months or more, until MS has published a few bug fix revisions.  That way I am not just another unsuspecting beta tester.

Meaning as they revise the bugs.  Most updates mess up my networking and the only fix is reverting to previous Windows.   The only reason why I see that these problems exist is that the OS is free and they cut the budget by using incompetent developers.  If there is one constant I see in the software world outside of DAW development is poor programming, especially the gaming industry.   Now Apple may be coming to the reality that their stuff is overpriced, that could put another dent in the PC industry.   Even Apple DAW users suffer from the evolving OS.

So often that's the failed new release of Windows.

  14. Synthmaster is one of the most overrated synths that can be had at times for under $50.   I've noticed with synths there's always a popularity trend.  Serum is the new top dog, then there was Spire and Sylenth.  Usually these trends what patches are released by developers.
