As you can probably figure out, Aria's a sample developer whose libraries have widely been seen as extremely poor, by customers and other sample developers. The complaints are pretty comprehensive ranging from sample quality, quality control and KONTAKT scripting, but one thing seems very clear, the scripting of Aria libraries appears to be extremely poor by all estimates. I don't recall  ever coming across a post from a satisfied Aria customer. If you're looking for a bargain on strings, I just picked up Ben Osterhouse's Sospiro Strings -- a string quartet with individual bass, cello, viola and violin. It's a KONTAKT library (requires the full version) , that cost less than $35 USD at Loot Audio (it's on sale now). I've been recommending it to friends lately. I've never bought any of this developer's libraries before -- and I have yet to install the library (I'm awaiting a new DAW PC), but the demos sound beautiful and the reviews and recommendations from musicians like composer Guy Michelmore are very positive. VI Control even has a Ben Osterhouse appreciation thread!

Your post reminded me that this forum has a no swearing policy. Now I completely agree with no political or religious discussions as most people can't seem to discuss those topics calmly these days, but swearing??? We need to fight for our rights, friends. For some of us, this is a very tough policy to live by. 

FYI, Cherry Audio just made their MG-1 free without any strings at their website, so if anyone wants that totally free without making a purchase, you can grab it at the developer's website. 

You realize what happened here with this thread, right? cclarry put up a deal a day before it happened. 

It's very clear that weve reached the point where retailers and developers can no longer keep up with cclarry's pace. 

Hey guys, when Cakewalk was going under my DAW PC had recently died and I never got around to replacing it until now (I'll have a new custom built music machine in a couple of weeks). So I never actually have switched to the new version of Cakewalk and I purchased Studio One Pro version (the last version) but never installed/used either. Consequently, I still don't have a DAW PC to try out the version of Studio One Pro v. 3 or the lastest version of Cakewalk but I'm tempted by BF upgrade pricing. So I'm asking for advice from those who have used both. Do you find Studio One better? 

One of the reasons I like the IDEA (on paper) of Cakewalk by Bandlab is that it makes it easy to collaborate with others, so I was planning on using it for that reason, unless it's seriously inferior to Studio One in ways that would matter to me. I'd love to get others' thoughts. 

I really like the sounds of this developer's libraries, especially their reverse library. Any users of their libraries want to share their thoughts?

While their reverse library, Revolution, which isn't currently on sale, Cycle and their pads library most interest me. I'd especially be interested if anyone here have Rev AND Revolution care to compare the two?  I found a thread on VI Control where some regulars said they loved the library and one said he had both and found Revolution more usable than Rev. Personally, I love the patches I've heard for both of them. But I don't have the budget for both. Thoughts from Revolution owners/users or owners of Sample Fuel's other libraries?

Also, as a KONTAKT user, I'm wondering how people who use both find HALion -- at least it's free version, which Sample Fuel libraries use -- compares. 

How many brands do you know, @cclarry? Woodman's Immaculate Maple Syrup Studio -- I've got to hand it to them for originality. 

I swear, I've learned of more small developers in the last week than I've probably known in decades of using sample libraries and VSTs. I mean, it's great to see how much talent is out there and choices available, but I'm blown away at how many you're aware of! When you and someone else wrote in some fake names for developers (Farting Platypus?), it really didn't seem that odd.

You're right -- and another problem with those free plugins? None of them are ever on sale. There's no Black Friday sale on a single one of them. So, it's far less exciting to find them.

Before I download, I've never heard of the developer before. Do you two use their plugins and recommend them?  I mean, I appreciate freebies, but if they're not worthwhile, they can just be a waste of time and there have been so many freebies lately, I want to only download the worthwhile ones. Your thoughts on Babelson plugins, gentlemen? 

Yeah, just saw it. For $120, I'd buy a ukulele. Dead serious. I'm going to use it for a small part in one song -- four chords. I can't imagine using it much after that.

Thanks. I'll go check it out. In all candor, I just need something to hold me over, so I'm not going to pay anymore than the two libraries I mentioned; which is ridiculously cheap (under $20). I know that Orange Tree Samples has a ukulele library in the works and I know that will be a killer, but I just need some ukulele strums for one song I plan on working on this month. If I owned a ukulele, I could even strum the chords well enough for this song. 

cclarry, I think I need to block you (okay, I'm  just kidding). It's like I'm an addict and you keep putting temptation right in my face. 

I just picked up another piano library from buying from your link above and I have more piano libraries than I will ever use. But I'm like, "Wait? 5 bucks for a piano library. It might be just the right fit for a certain song. I shouldn't pass this up." There really should be a support group for GAS, but everything I see is just more addicts egging each other on. On the upside, it was a mere 5 bucks.

On another note, I am in need of a decent ukulele library (sadly, while I was trained on piano, organ and drums and played drums professionally for two decades, I took some guitar lessons but just never got proficient with it, hence I've become obsessed with guitar sample libraries going all the way back to hardware synths in the 80s!). Does anyone have Splash Sound's ukulele library and want to share their opinion of it? I was comparing Splash Sound's ukulele demos to those of Dream Audio Tool's -- which is also super cheap, but not on sale -- and thought Dream Audio Tool's demos sounded closer to what I'm after, but, as always, I'm concerned with playability and would love to get some insights from current users.

I've heard, from a professional, that their KONTAKT scripting is really, really poor/problematic. Does anyone who owns the library say otherwise (i.e., that they find it is well scripted)? Scripting is critical in string libraries, IMO. 

Damn it, I had my credit card ready to jump on deals on the new sounds from Blind Platypus.

Well .. quiet a good few people just want a sampler to chop and slice samples + time stretch and the like. And then effect them also. This is pretty much what Serato and Momentum are ..  the gap they fill. There is no  scripting in these apps as far as I am aware. 

They  also cover a gap where price is concerned .. being FREE as is case with Momentum and $99 ( though on sale for $49 now ) for Serato.

Thanks for the distinction in your criteria. I suspected some users would be more focused on loops than multisamples, which is what I primarily use KONTAKT for. But I'm definitely interested in checking out other tools and appreciate the insights. Thanks. 

What separates KONTAKT and makes it superior to any other multisample player is its scripting capabilities. Without the scripting capabilities level that KONTAKT has set as the standard -- and so far, to my knowledge, no other sampler / sample player has equaled them -- nothing else comes close. Of course, KONTAKT also has the advantage of being the top choice of sample developers, and that competition has increased the rate of innovation and kept prices lower. All of that said, I would love to see some really solid competition come along. Can anyone comment on the scripting capabilities of this and other alternatives that have been mentioned?

I was waiting for a thread to ask other Sampletekk customers about their older piano libraries. Several years ago my main DAW PC hard drive failed and I never replaced it -- and now, I'm going to have a new DAW PC this month (which I'm very excited about). Consequently, I have a bunch of now old sample libraries, including several Sampletekk piano libraries and I wanted to ask people how they think their libraries from a decade ago like 7CG, Rain Piano (first version), Old Lady, WJ, Black Grand and White Grand.  Apparently, from the comments, their older piano libraries have aged pretty well against more recent piano libraries? 

Also, as I'm almost certainly going to grab this deal too -- I own the first version of Rain Piano, and I'm guessing the upgrade to version two is probably at least $15 alone, so it's worth it -- but @cclarry, your post stating that you still didn't use your coupon has me wondering if AudioPlugin.deals sent a coupon I have lurking somewhere among my emails. Could you please clarify if they sent out coupons to their list or if it's something specific to your account?
