I wonder why Cakewalk insists vst3 folder is in scan paths if theres nothing in there to scan. -
Slow it down, record fast guitar part, then speed it up?

I have downloaded a free version of Amplitube. The .dll file is saved among my other .dll files. And the VST3 file has been saved in the VST3 folder in programme files. Cakewalk does not recognise Amplitube when it scans. What I have deduced is if I remove the VST3 folder from the scan in preferences then Cakewalk finds Amplitube and loads it into the FX browser. However the next time I go to open preferences I find that the VST3 folder is back again. Is there any way I can stop the VST3 folder from being scanned? SOLVED. I have submitted a help request to Amplitube. I may raise this in the Q&A forum on here too. -

Yes but only if i go into preferences and remove VST3 from the scan. When I rescan then Amplitube shows up and can be used. But if I close Cakewalk or another scan occurs then VST3 appears in the scan preferences again. -

Interesting. When I remove the VST 3 folder from the scan preferences the Amplitube FX shows up in the FX Browser. But when I open the preferences again the VST 3 folder is showing again. Any way I can get rid of it from the scanning process? -

Hi - the .dll is in program files/cakewalk/vst plugins along with a lot of other .dll files. the .vst3 file is in the vst 3 folder however this path is in the scan preferences and I cant remove it or rather I can remove it then when I go back to preferences its there again. Could this be part of the issue? And I meant FX browser not bin 🙂 -

Hi I have downloaded it and its loaded into my VST folder but its not being picked up on a VST scan. Any tips? I removed the scanned VST folder from scan preferences. I then added it back and did a scan and the Amplitube vst was scanned but its still not showing in Cakewalk. -

Sounds too good to be true. How do you rate the 'package'? Are these full products or demos? -
Thanks guys.

Would I have to convert it to an audio file first before inserting the bass amp and cabinet? -

No but I notice that the Bass P Lite doesnt have a great note range and find that I have to transpose my bass line by an octave to get it to work. Which is very odd. -
Am with you there John. 25 years ago I recorded a few tracks in CPA9. In those days the FX that were available were basic midi stuff and some fairly decent (mainly 3rd party) reverb, chorus, compressors, flange, EQ (the usual suspects). There wasnt any mastering stuff 'freely' available to my knowledge. And when I first started recording, to me, the mixing was the actual 'mastering'. Now am not wishing to beat my own drum but the tracks I recorded back in those days, I simply couldnt (or wouldnt ) want to hear them in any other way. They hold their own (production-wise) with was available on CD at the time and as far as I am concerned as good as I want them to sound. And I put this down to the fact that, as there were much fewer resources available at the time compared to now, I worked with a handful of processors and got to know them really well. I didnt have the plethora of plugins available today, didnt have any choices to make with the occasional resultant wrong choice, and just got stuck in mixing the songs to exactly how I wanted them. And I used a set of headphones that cost no more than £4. And they sound absolutely fine on car stereos, CD players, MP3 players, active monitors, even smartphones. An additional problem is that having so many effects available can be tempting to use something unnecessarily and end up ruining what could have been a good recording. A lot of commercial stuff that has been available over the last 3 decades has fallen foul of over-processing/mastering. To the extent that the vocals can be lost in it (this could be a sign of my failing hearing however). Just an aside - I remember listening to songs on an old battery pocket radio with one very 'tinny' sounding speaker. And I will never forget when I bought the single Schools Out (Alice Cooper) and playing it on my stereo system at home. I couldnt believe there was an actual backbeat having only heard the cymbals and never having heard the bass guitar. Thankfully we arent recording for that era anymore and glad that the mono days are long gone! Just out of interest does anyone know if mono recordings and early stereo recordings mastered or simply just 'prepared' for radio/home systems?

Mine was more of a rhetorical question. No matter how many sets of speakers, buds, headphones or how many times you run your own mixed song through it will always be personal to you. And if you have hearing deficiencies (which you are unaware of ) and dont hear certain frequencies then the mix is going to sound different to someone with 100% hearing. I agree that for commercial releases you need someone who has form/a pedigree in that sort of thing. But for personal/semi-pro stuff then you rely on the advice of others. But they cant mix it for you so it can only be as good as what they tell you. Now if there was a piece of software that can 'balance' a mix (so to speak) i.e. make it so that someone with say 80/85% hearing perfection is going to hear every frequency at the appropriate levels then we might be on to something. I have no doubt such software exists but it doesnt get over the fact that when you do mix a song you want it to be as personal as possible. And no software knows what you (personally) want. Am sure we have all heard many successful songs and still find the vocals a bit muddy, or the snare non-existent or just a mish mash of instruments yet that same song could be flying high in the charts...simply because someone mixed it the way they wanted it. Interesting stuff 🙂👍

Just a quick one. How do i know I am using a Track or Project template? is the 'home' screen a project template for example?
-
I also find it interesting that we all have different hearing. And pick up different frequencies to each other. How then can we be trusted to mix and master when its our hearing that it is created for and not the masses? 🙂

Thank you and yes I noticed the slap and slide sounds. Where would i adjust the velocity for example from 118 t o110 as you mention as mine only goes to 100%
