  1. No! However, many of my childhood friends and I use to organize and attend week long parties in the deep woods that surrounded our community. Also many river parties. In some respects, our week long parties were better than Woodstock. Once the word got out there was a party happening in the woods the size of the parties were rather impressive. It was a great time to be young and alive, and I would have sold my soul to pee in the woods at Woodstock! But the devil had no interest in me, so we created our own good times in our own garden of Eden. I'm so happy you didn't take my review the wrong way, but I felt it was important to share with you an honest reaction. As I was listening to your track I was trying to imagine playing along with it. I don't think I could do it. Much the same as jazz, I just do not have the talent to follow it, and much less, the ability to remember all the things involved. So I tip my hat to you for having that ability. Frank Zappa is a good complement IMO. The tunes you mentioned are some of his most popular commercial adventures. He did do some stuff on guitar that was just amazing, but on a whole, his music was not something that resonated with me most of the time. And, I think it is fair to say there are some tunes that are considerably melodic that I don't care for either. Music is such a subjective adventure that arguing over which song is good and which song is bad is like arguing which side of the room is truly left and right. Stay well, Jesse!
  2. Woodstock was fun. Especially the mud slides after the rain! I'm sure that is not what you meant, but not everyone that plays in the mud are pigs. Just having dirty fun. Anyway, the tune is very complicated., but certainly interesting in its own right. I had to double dip to absorb it as best I could. comes across as chaotic, but there is certainly an underlaying pattern in all the abstract muck. Its not something I would gravitate to or could listen to for any great length of time. And by no means is that an insult or a disparaging account. I really didn't like Frank Zappa too much, but obviously my assessment doesn't mean he had no talent. Just not my cup of tea. I hope I didn't go all piggy in my review.
  3. Don't know the song, but this sounds pretty good. A great song to feature your wonderful vocals. Very enjoyable and well done!
  4. The only thing my ears are catching is its a pretty good tune. Dreamy guitar accents/fills here and there. Great vox and lyrics. The break away at 2:50 sold it for me. Damn good surprise! The levels seem okay. Some may say it could probably be a little louder, but I'm not one of them. Rather enjoyable tune all the way through.
  5. Big space! You have captured the sitar in my opinion. But even so, there is much to be said about the percussions too. Cool video, but I think the girl in the lotus position was facing the wrong way. As always, fine work!
  6. New instruments certainly have a way of triggering creativity. I remember when I got my first Fender Strat. I played a 30min piece. Actually 45 min, but decided to cut it back to an acceptable 30 min noncommercial standard. Somebody stop me!!! Hey! Your new baby sounds great! Cool chops too!
  7. Really like that guitar tone, and the playing is sweet too. I heard a few clicks at the beginning. There may be a few after as well. Did you duck the reverb or just tempo sync it? Yeah. I like that organ too. Fills in nicely. Vocals sit in the right spot with the harmonies adding the width. Enjoyable.

  9. I listened to the first track. Massive wall of sound hit me. The composition is great, but I think this would sound so much better if you would consider playing with the levels and create volume swells in the spectral field. This would help give any particular instrument of your choosing emphasis. It would create a new dynamic in the piece. Sort of like what you did around the 5:50 mark. As it is, it sounds as if everything is peaking all at once. So, volume dynamics is the only critique I can offer. Outside of that its a wonderful composition. Sorry I don't have the time to listen to all 18, but thanks for sharing them all! That was very generous.

    Airy and light. I agree with some of the critique above. Another thing I would consider is the snare skip at the beginning while the harmonica is playing relaxed sustained notes. I would either lose the skip or slow it down a quarter/eighth beat. Just a tad too quick in my mind. Needs more tweaking, as you say, but a good start, Larry. With all that said, I don't "TRUST" my ears sometimes. That's why I'm here. Plus, I like hearing what other people are doing and perhaps learn a few things along the way. Dean.
  11. I don't think I can recall every imagining what Frank Zappa would sound like if he went down a rabbit hole and stole all the tarts. But I am now! Its hard to find the direction at first, but I started to play along. Interesting composition out of left field.
  12. Off the charts sound quality. Great tune and video to boot! It kicks and glides right along with an interesting theme and matching lyrics. Wonderful production.
  13. The low end is sitting nice. You have nice width and separation. I hear some movement in the electric lead as things move along. You have a great voice and can carry this energy well. I still get a sense that the lead guitar can open up. I don't know why, cause it still sounds good. But my imagination won't let it go.

    Yeah. That's some nice playing and a lovely adaptation. I'd be tempted to tweak a few things here and there to soften it up a bit, but then I may regret it. Its a very enjoyable gem as it is. Well done.
  15. Trapped in the loop. Yeah, that's a conundrum. The logical solution is to replicate the individual instruments, but that can be a lot of work. I found this free service that can magically extract instrumental parts, such as drums, guitar, vocals, etc. I tried it out of curiosity and ran one of my tunes through it. It amazingly works. The only drawback is you have to open an account, but they do offer a free use option. I don't know if it will help you separate those high strings into a individual track that you can fade in and out, but maybe it will. Just run the loop track through it and see what happens. If it works you will have better control of the loop. If you try it let me know how it works out. I may need todo the same thing down the road.   16. Well that was just damn good. Your vocals complement each other. Very polished production. Everything sits perfectly and its all clear as a bell. Did I say it was damn good? Yeah, I did say it was damn good. Well then the only thing I can add is it was really really really damn good!

  19. I didn't hear the first track. Got to agree with your wife. I'm not getting a happy vibe either. Seems to have a matter of fact tone to it. Nevertheless, I like the vocal doubling-well done. Got a bit of Roy Orbison going on and something else that I just can't put my finger on. I'm not very good with genre either. Regardless, I listened to it twice and I like it.
  20. "GSP 2101 guitar processor". I have one of those. Great signal processor but noisy as hell! How do you deal with the S/N ratio? This beast is a hissing dragon, but some of those presets are very nice.
  21. Here are my thoughts. At the opening you have some synth keys playing in a high octave while you are singing. They are a bit of a distraction. I would loose them until the 1st verse of vocals end. Around 1:00 those high notes go away and it sounds so much better to me because I can fully focus on the vocals and the piano guitar accompaniment, along with the low end backing it all up. That part sounds awesome. The second verse of vocals sound s okay and the high keys lend to a slow build up, so I'd say they work better as things move along.
  22. Yeah. Not bad work. For certain songs vocal harmonies are a must and this one falls into such a category. You did pretty good, Andy. I didn't record anything from my early days, so all that stuff is floating through space. I watch Mike too. He's a very helpful fellow and nice guy. He's taught me a few things as well. I see he has a new studio and I bet he's very excited surrounded by all those new toys he acquired.
  23. First, Its a very nice tune-middle 8 or not. Instrumentally the guitar is the featured attraction, but it sounds like it could stand some width, as it sounded a bit boxed & down the middle. Regardless of the guitar being the featured attraction the vocals are always the headliner IMO, so I tend to question when other instruments invade their territory, and there seems to be a lot of stuff coming down the middle in a very narrow way. Nevertheless, in a way I like it. Perhaps because each has its own space in time and things are rarely overlapping at the same time. But the boxy-ness does give it a certain thinness that seems to trouble me. With all that subjective BS said, I do like this tune and enjoyed it.
