The mix is a lot more punchier than the 1st one.
You changed guitar panning on the second version.  (intro)
You have a really powerful voice.

I wish that were my voice!  It's a friend of mine in the band we're in.

  2. Country definitely seems easy for you.  Great playing and singing.  This reminds me of the 80's and early 90's for country music when I was a kid.  Good times!

I need to know what you used for the steel.  Do tell.  I read that you used backing tracks and midi, but honestly, I'm not real familiar with how that kind of stuff works.  You just get the midi, but you have to supply your own virtual instruments or what?

  3. Can you talk a bit about your micing on the guitar?  I like it.  Also, what you did as far as EQ, etc to it.  It kind of sounds like it was plugged in, but I don't want to make that assumption.

  4. That bass is in there!  Holy cow.  Huge bottom end.  I'm a bit different than some of the other posters...I happen to dig Elvis.  He influenced so many people with his style.  I know it is the thing of that time, but too much verb for my taste.  I'd actually like to hear a more modern take on this song.

  5. Nice playing.  I felt that the staccato notes toward the latter part of the song stood out too much.  I'd push them back a bit.  I like the part.  It adds dynamics.  Just a bit too "look at me" if that makes sense.  The flute might still be too loud, but not sure.  Seems like that was my first reaction, but then my ears got used to it.  That's just my 2 cents.  😊

  6. Really dig the vocal at 0:58.  Very nice touch.  Really great track, I enjoyed it.  The vocal seemed a touch too forward at the beginning, but settled in nicely as it got into it.  Might have just been me.  Nice playing!

  7. I'm reposting this one since it seems the old thread was inadvertently deleted.  I'm going to post up a previous mix first.  This was from the first round of feedback I got from you all.  The second one is my latest mix.  I was working to get more clarity, punch, and a cleaner bottom end.  Hopefully I hit my goal.  The two may be different levels.  I didn't level match them.

    And here's the latest one...

What browser are you using? There is no setting for this that I have been able to locate. I have looked. Send in a support request. I would think the admins would want to know if Wookiee hasn't already got them involved.

I use Chrome pretty much exclusively.  I checked it in Internet Exploder a bit ago and it was the same.

    This is what I see:

Yeah, that's definitely quite a bit different from mine.  I've searched everywhere, though.  I can't find any sort of setting or messaging feature.  I even looked to see if I had something disabled on BandLab itself and not the forum.  No dice.

Well, I'm able to find your thread with a Google search but when clicking on the link it doesn't show up as expected. It is however possible to see the cached version here:

    https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:03W7KWJD9zoJ:https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php%3F/topic/3877-sun-lightning-mix-thoughts-and-feedback-please/+&cd=3&hl=sv&ct=clnk

Something must have happened, not sure what.

Edit: When reading through the cached thread it seems as if you initial links were targeting mediafire which required some kind of download. Maybe these links were considered containing malware by the forum software and removed because of that? Just my two cents.

Thanks for digging in.  Yeah, I had replaced those media fire links a while back.  I changed them to soundcloud and most of the posts in the thread were comments about the soundcloud versions.

@Myriad Rocker I think their may be a page limit i.e. only 9 pages then they just sort of fall off.  Can you give me the title of the thread I can check and see if it is in the bin for you.

It had the words "Sun Lightning" in the title.  Something about mix feedback.  I searched all the pages for it and also used the search bar to look for it.  I also checked my posts on my profile.  Unless I'm crazy, it's MIA.

So Myriad, the first example called Mix 2, is that the one form last week, or before that? Or is this a new mix too?

I'm back at work so I only have the work speakers and my headphones.

Anyway, the second mix is clearer than that first example. I can hear the bass player in this mix! All levels of the guitar are even in relation to each other.

If I were to make a suggestion, I would lower the guitars one or two db at the most. But that's only nit picking. (I like to hear the drums strong.) On the work speakers the guitars were more dominate than the drums, but listening on my hp the difference wasn't as much as on the work speakers.

Still I think you are getting better at mixing. Waiting on the next post!!

That's the one from last week.  V3 is the latest that, so far, just has instrumentation.

I did lower both guitars by 1db.  That change is posted in the original post under the same V3 clip.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Great song, love it!

The lower more talking vocals could be a bit louder (IYF) in my book, and also there is a loud mouthclick? at 0:28 that has to go!!!

Appreciate the compliment.  I couldn't find the "mouthclick" you were talking about at 0:28 specifically.  That's before the vox come in.  However, I moved the volume envelope closer to when the first transient hits there.  I haven't posted a V3 mix with vocals yet, so that's coming.  We'll see if I got that click out when I post up the latest.

Thanks guys!  I've been out of town for a few days but I'm back, so back to work it is!

  13. Hey all.  I think this is likely something super simple that I'm just not finding.  I've searched the old forums and this one and I can't find out how to change the order of the busses in the console view.  In track view you just drag and drop where you want it.  Anything I click on in console view just selects it.  Could someone let me in on the secret?  😀

  14. Nicely written and dynamic.  I enjoyed it.  My only constructive criticism is that when the drums come in, they do sound programmed.  Maybe you were going for that.  They have plenty of power, but you might tweak the velocities a bit.  Maybe even shift the kick just a tad ahead of the beat every little bit.  That way it really feels like the drums are driving/pushing the song forward a bit.  And when I say a tad, I'm talking in the low milliseconds.

Just my thoughts.  I really enjoyed listening.  Thanks for sharing.
