Mark, thanks for listening to this and your wise words,  I understand what you mean by being careful with the use of this software.  I consider it another "spice" in my spice rack.  I do, however, like spicy food ;)  Ever since hearing Imogen Heep's  "Hide And Seek", I've been a sucker for f/x like this, and I finally got to have my turn.

    Lynn,

It would be a pretty boring world if we all liked the same spices:)   Had a listen to Hide and Seek, I must say I prefer your use of the effect.      Obviously millions of people love the sound because Imogen Heep has a ton of fans, as does that song.   Anyway, a good song and performance is a good song and performance regardless of the recipe used.     Glad to see you back posting songs.

  2. Lynn,

Good to see you back.   I like the song and overall production, very well done.     Not a fan of Waves Harmony though, I think as an occasional "effect" or buried under real vocals, these types of tools can be effective but you can't beat real vocals at the end of the day.     Tried many of these tools but end up mostly reverting to Melodyne for harmonies these days (or EW Hollywood Backup Singers).    Waves Harmony, et. al., are great for sketching ideas though, no doubt.

Definitely hear the Steve Miller vibe on this one.     The drums and bass are super tight, great work on those.    Had a couple listens through, good stuff.

    Regards

  3. Great track, mix and performance.   That guitar coming in out of the blue was a real ear twister, had to roll back a few times to figure out what you were doing.    Very clever stuff.    Super enjoyable listen.

Yes, sounds quite motown to me as well. If I heard this on the radio, I would guess probably an old motown song or maybe a song from the early 70's. It really has that kind of vibe. Nice job!

Thank you for the listen and comment Dream Art Scientists.   It is a bit lighter than the original version so perhaps more Motown than pop rock.   Have always been partial to that genre.   Funny I never thought of it as Motown"ish" until mentioned by several listeners.  I guess you hear a song so many times one can become somewhat blind.   Thanks for the listen and glad you enjoyed it.

well if you hadn't mentioned this was a Lenny Kravitz cover, I would never have guessed - definitely sounds more Motown than anything else!!

never heard the original, but like the sound of the cover

    Good stuff

    Nigel,

Appreciate the  listen and comment.    Lenny does have a wide variety of music in his repertoire.   This one was very much influenced by EW&F and the cover is a bit more light than Lenny's version.    Glad you liked it.

    What does 'duck everything' mean?

    Barry,

If you have TS set-up with separation of vocals and music bed, Trackspacer looks at the vocal frequencies and reduces those frequencies (whatever they are) in the music bed.    Could be any instrument in that frequency.    You dial the effect in so that the result is transparent, i.e. there isn't a noticable reduction in volume other than clearer more audible vocals.   You can use it for anything but it is terrific for vocals.    There was a video in the link above.   Here it is:

  7. Barry,

Nice track, I think your vocals sound good.    Your vocal delivery in this song reminds me a little of Joe Walsh.    Didn't hear the earlier versions but this one sounds pretty good.    Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

One option to side chaining to get your vocals to pop through is Trackspacer.  Super easy to implement, put your music on one Bus, vocals on another.  Trackspacer will duck everything in the EQ range of your vocals fairly transparently, and only during vocal parts.   https://www.wavesfactory.com/audio-plugins/trackspacer/  Is only about $50 or $60 I think.

  8. Bjorn,

The music goes so well with the video it initially seemed like the intro to a TV show:)   Is a little reminiscent of Jeff Beal's writing style, like in the Jesse Stone shows.   Super cool video supporting the music.    Excellent production.

  9. Nice tribute video, enjoyed the song and performances very much.     The recording is pretty good considering it is a "basement tape" from '86 and the performances are all tight.   Sorry to hear about your brother but you have created a nice keepsake here that will bring back many great memories.

  10. Cover of the 1991 song, "It Ain't Over Til It's Over",  written and produced by Lenny Kravitz.    Did this one a few years back without vocals and contacted Tony (Twisted6s) on the old Cakewalk forum, and he graciously agreed to sing it.   Most of the vocals including all backing vocals are him.   There are a few parts where I blended in East West Background Singers but the vast majority of the vocals are Tony.   He did a really nice job on this now classic.

I played guitar and bass but ended up replacing the bass with IK MODO Bass because I couldn't dial in the sound I was looking for.   Drums are Superior Drummer 3 Dry Seventies preset, keyboards are Arturia, Sitar and horns are just from NI Kontakt.   I have heard the song is based from Earth Wind and Fire's "Way of the World"   I guess the chord progression is similar.

Edit-Used IK Multimedia "The One" and Master Match to self master this track.    First time using it but very impressed by the simplicity and results of Master Match.

Beautiful cover work.  As I was listening I googled Ennio Morricone.  He has quite a repertoire.

    😀John B

    John,

Appreciate the listen.   Morricone has quite a long and illustrious career, although maybe most known for the Spaghetti Westerns with Sergio Leone, he also did much more in many genres.   Some of my favs are the music from Once Upon a Time in America and the Untouchables.      He also did the Hateful Eight with Quentin Tarantino in 2015.   That may have been one of his last.

Hi Mark. This is wonderful - such a rich sound - put me in a really good space. I love this man - hope all is good with you.

Thanks Mark, and good to hear from you.   All good here and happy to see the band is back together.

  12. Great chill funk for a Friday afternoon.   Kind of early Kenny G vibe when he was playing with Jeff Lorber.    Super fun song and well executed.

  13. Great song, definitely not your run of the mill Weather Channel smooth jazz tunes.   Super interesting throughout, great guitar playing and instrumentation,  the mix is good too.   Love it...

Do you have any old hard drives you want to sell?😀

The symphonic swells on this are breathtakingly good and the light and shade across the instruments is truly superb - what a fabulous piece. On your feed I also happened upon a new version of one of my favourite tracks from a certain @PhonoBrainer (A Bridge To Somewhere) - sounding as good if not better than ever with some added strings, a cool percussion track and - of course - that sax.

    Fabulous work 👏👏👏👏👏👏

    Andy

    Andy,

Thank you very much for the listen and comment.

Will actually be posting an update of Bridge to Somewhere as I updated the strings and a few other things.    Will leave the current version up as well.    I agree, Phonobrainer came up with a good one in this song.

  15. Bjorn,

Pictures and videos were breathtaking, and became so focused on them forget I was listening to an original music track:)    Went back an listened to the track without the pics and it is really good.   The combination of the video and music is quite powerful.   Super enjoyable.
