Midi channel is a common reason as RBH pointed out.

Hey All
I haven't worked on this yet and I'm not in studio, so please excuse me if this is a no brainer. If it is, a simple reply with "duh" will be sufficient.
I have drum midi grooves that came with a NI drum package.
After I drag a clip onto a midi track, I make some modifications to some of the midi notes in the beats.
Here's the question: After I modify one of these beats, can I turn it into a loop in CbB so I can just slip it to cover the whole measure, etc and contain the modified beat?
Duh, no duh? 😃
Thanks!

I use the A&H MixWizard WZ3 16:2. I run the 16 direct outs into 2 x 8 channel ADAT converters (currently 2 x Fostex VC8's until I can afford some better converters) and into my RME Digiface USB, so basically I'm using it as 16 mic pres.
The newer MixWizard WZ4 has a optional USB interface. It's not cheap though, but should give better conversion than what I have currently.... whether the drivers are as good as the RME's is a different matter.
The sound of the MixWizard itself is excellent. To my ears, the mic pre's are superior to the pre's in most audio interfaces, but my main reason for using the A&H is because I like to sculp the sound using EQ (and maybe outboard compression) on the way in.
One thing I would say, is make sure any USB mixer you get has a multi-channel interface. Most of the cheaper ones are just a stereo output over USB.
I did a fair bit of research on these before I opted for the MixWizard, and all of these can send every individual channel via USB:
Tascam Model 24 /16 / 12 (£750 (24) / £600 (16) / £500 (12) )- this would have been my first choice, but the USB signal is sent pre-eq / pre-fader on both the Model 24 & Model 16... the Model 12 has remedied this by making it switchable, so if this is a concern, the Model 12 is a great choice. The Model 12/16/24 can also be used as a standalone portastudio recording to SD card.
Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK ( £550 - £650 ) - The MTK suffix means multi-track... there's cheaper stereo versions without the MTK which is reflected in the price. This is a fantastic mixer, and soundcraft are well known for their great sound. Again, the tracks are sent to USB pre-eq/fader, which isn't what I wanted.
A&H MixWizard WZ4 16:2 (£1100 + £265 for USB option). An even better sound than the Soundcraft IMO. It's a smaller mixer than the Soundcraft 22 ( only 16 tracks, yet almost twice the price ). But it'll fit in a 19" rack. And it's an Allen & Heath. What gets sent to USB is switchable via dipswitches on the board.
The second hand price for WZ3's is amazing though... between £300 & £450... which is why I opted for that along with a RME Digiface USB (£320) and the 2 x Fostex VC8's which were about £50 -£75 each.Hey, does that model have the motorized faders?

I don't even try using the update feature for BLA any longer. It became 100% unreliable.
As soon as I see the notice in BLA that it has an update, I close out of it and download the current version and install it. That process is 100% reliable for me.
I just have to periodically check to make sure I don't have more than one instance installed after that.

Since a mixer is not an audio interface, I doubt CbB or even Windows would recognize it as an audio interface. Could be wrong, but you might include the mixer model you're referring to just in case A&H has a model that includes an interface in it.

Solo the bass track and play. Get the level where you want. Then unsolo the bass and play along with the project. If the bass gets buried in the mix, like the other poster said, reduce the level of your other tracks.

I remember owning a rack mounted Ibanez dual digital delay DD1000 that even though I bought it new, it was pre-MIDI!

I haven't used auto tune in years, but I personally prefer Melodyne.
-
Also, if you export wav files with really high resolution, like 24/96, your player software may not have the codecs to play that high resolution file.

I work for a data infrastructure company, so nope. All local except for an external storage drive for backup.

I have a small, small (did I say small?) studio with one of those creation stations in it. I don't have the physical room for larger monitors or I would have two large or one giant one. So alas, I have 2, 24 inch flat.
(I'm very grateful for my studio though. I don't want to give the impression I'm not)

If you're loading Melodyne when your project loads, then you're not bouncing Melodyne--you're leaving it to run in real time. That's not a best practice and you may have project issues
-
Might not seem relevant, but did you do something with the view in Windows? I did once to make the view larger and it started cutting parts of my plug-in interfaces out.
-
Melodyne is one of those plug-ins where the best practice is to do your editing, then do the bounce to clip and that completes the Melodyne "session" -- it gracefully closes.
It doesn't play nice when it's left to work in real-time while you're still working on your project, and definitely not multiple instances of it.
I found all this out the hard way. If you're worried about printing an effect into a track, make a copy of the track and then archive it first. That's what I do now. Works great with my flow.
-
I put all the drums on one track and separate the parts, fills, etc. in take lanes.
Works great and you can even label each lane.

Glad you found a solution. You'll find this forum to be one of the biggest hidden treasures of using Cakewalk.
Also, it's always a good idea to mark your post as solved once you get your answer.
Welcome!

Sorry to hear that. I only played with the demo version and never encountered such a problem. Have you tried to proceed clip by clip (one pitch = one clip), instead of doing it on one shot? As I understand, that Doppler problem seems to happen when you change the pitch while playing.
Thanks. The doppler effect happens anytime I retune a sample. I tried clean samples too. Also, we're not talking about a large pitch change. It does it with a half step.
I can make it work. I'm glad I have Sound Forge.

I did go and listen today on the site, and the uberschlls are maybe worth the trouble. There is the uHe Zebra which is packed so full of samples, that it's incredibly difficult to browse. I like doing the sound design , but get lost in the process. It's a weird place to go. Wish I could get that concentration on the guitar. Sometimes I can feel that zone, but it's fleeting. Then back to hacking and heartbreak. I have the demo Zebra. The Zebralette, is free, with less presets. I really love their plugins. Wish I could justify a purchase, but with the Corona thing, I'm in a hunker down mode, for the time being. I'm helping another friend learn some mixing, which is how I ended up getting into mixing/composing to begin with. Was getting to some nice mixes with the Ableton, and one day just realized I was going nowhere. I really didn't want to get back to it, either, but owe my friend as much help as I can manage. I actually like the Cakewalk better than Ableton. Dl'd a mastering template and whoever made it, is some kind of whiz. I'm trying to deconsruct it and figure out how to use the parts I need. Pretty tough. Alot of the plugins are missing, and it might have been made with Sonar, and diffrent plugins. One thing I can't seem to find on the present Cakewalk is a limiter, so I guess I'll be back on KVR looking for a compatible free limiter. Another pretty cool Synth I should recommend is Vital. Again, I'm on the free one. No manual so it's kind of challenging. The sample mangler is pretty cool. Has a text to voice or load sample to the little window, and it's another space type eerie mangler. I like it. Could never get Serum figured, just too many things going on. Lost the original thread topic, sorry. The uHe's have some instuments. Might take a bit more trouble to tweak, but they do have incredible sound , at least to me.
Yeah, if I didn't think their samples were any good I wouldn't use them, and I definitely wouldn't go through all the hastle to convert them for my project. Just too much trouble for me to purchase any more of their stuff.

Speaking of Obscene learning curves. Massive. Unreal audio quality. But to get to THAT sound , your hearing will never be the same :).
Yeah, I'm not so happy with Ueberschall. When I used a retune feature to change the pitch of a sample, you can still hear the original pitch playing as well.
I reached out to their support, and long story short, that just happens with some of their samples. Not acceptable to me, so I just change the pitch with Sound Forge, but that means I have to convert the tempo of the sample in CW, export the sample from Ueberschall, open the sample in Sound Forge and convert the pitch, then import the sample back into my CW project. Pretty lame, but I already spent $50 on the samples 👎
Ueberschall also doesn't have a sync playback with the host, so you can't run through a bunch of samples to listen how they sound in your project as easily as the other samplers I own. Not worth the money IMO.

This seems less like someone who just wants to rant than someone who is frustrated and really wants to see improvement.
Ranters typically don't take the time to include video of their issues with detailed explanations.
It's a foregone conclusion that CW works well for most people, but what if you had so many challenges using it that it stopped your creative workflow? What would you do?
Sure, some comments were overly general, but I read that as frustration.
That's my .02c

Maybe something different like this could worth to check. Solos are somewhat baked but their elastic technology make it possible to rearrange them.

Just curious if you have ueberschall? I'm having a little bit of trouble with the retune feature playing the original pitch along with the retuned pitch and wondered if you figured out a workaround.
I reached out to their support and they said I have to twirl the sensitivity and pitch dials to try to remove the doppler effect, but I'm not having any luck.
I've got other tools, like Sound Forge if I need to change the pitch of a sample, but I can't imagine that someone would have to do that.
Any advice?

I've never used CW audio snap. Would that work better for slight timing issues with distorted guitar chords?
Is there a simple way to even out vocal signal

Clipping is bad. I would redo those takes, but with the rest of it, you've given the perfect example of what a compressor can be used for.
