  1. Cage once made or proposed a sound installation where a large room was outfitted with microphones set to the edge of feedback. Nothing else. People and room noises were amplified and set ringing.

  3. I read somewhere - and I can't find it now - that the Cage performance was actually televised live on a TV show at one time. But the surprise was that after a certain point, the broadcast was interrupted by an automated alert triggered by the silent interval. Something in the network detected the lack of audio as a signal error. If anyone can verify or find that story I'd be grateful.

  6. If you have Reaktor 6, you can test your system audio paths and DAW capabilities with this set of tools. You can use it to test all your audio paths and verify your DAW operation under controlled loads over any length of time. Included are two Windows batch files to load Reaktor standalone in controlled CPU logical or physical cores so that you can explore the hyperthreading issues of audio processing on your system. One approach to testing is to load Reaktor standalone into some cores and gradually increase the load while saving audio data in a file for later analysis. Next one can load a DAW in various channel configurations and loads and again verify the data integrity. Finally when a stable "maximal" configuration is achieved - the audio project may be saved for later verification when system changes occur and the results re-confirmed to avoid a negative impact.   9. Well, that's cool. I didn't even think to look there. Here is a set of the 101 decks from the 4th edition of Eno's Oblique Strategies. I know only 100 will be shown, so it's up to the user to remove one. There's something wrong, though, the limit should be 128 (or 127)! Right? ProjectOpenNotification.txt
  10. When we start CbB we now see these small messages of encouragement in the notification window. Is it possible to insert into the list of messages? For example, I wanted to add the text from Oblique Strategies cards.
  11. Perhaps you are thinking of 'Replace if Possible on Project Load' in VST3 Migration in the VST settings of preferences? That won't help here. Oddly, while the Kontakt 5 VST is named 'Kontakt 5.dll', Kontakt 6 is just 'Kontakt.dll'. Likewise, the new executable is just 'Kontakt.exe'. Perhaps you can make a copy of Kontakt 6's DLL and rename it or use a symlink or some such trick? The older Kontakt 5 8 and 16 out DLLs are also now merged into the single new one.
  12. I just used one of the pizmidi utilities and found it threw an error message saying it had an installation issue (see image). There is no installation, just make a directory and put them all there. Turns out an option needs to be modified now that was not needed before. I don't know if this is new or old, I don't use these very much. Anyway the fix is simple. In the vst folder there is a file 'pizmidi.ini'. Make the following change (in red):
  13. Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't really fishing for any comments, mostly I just wanted to get a feel for the new forum tools, etc. All the sounds came from the movie sound track but were heavily modified with Reaktor and Stutter Edit and a few other things that I don't recall any more. As for the length, well, I guess that is a matter of taste. It is a bit of an oddball ambient style where long lengths are rather usual. The introductory Sonar ping is, perhaps. too long as it has a very gradually transformation a la Reich's phasing experiments. I could probably cut that all out, but I remember so many pings in the movie I think it is still OK. It was a great movie and I made this for my nephew who is just starting to get into synthesizers. It is not music for the general public by any means. Here is a note I sent my nephew when I was about half-way complete. He had asked me to make a song based on sonar.
