  5. Absolutely as well as have all the details attended to like the info on the web page. Tutorials and fancy promo videos press releases to the industry, unveiled at NAAM. They either have a brilliant plan that has yet to be revealed or they just don’t think things through. I have now been on all the major DAWs web pages and Bandlabs sites will need a lot of work if they want to look good out there. For almost a year the main thing you see is “Coming Soon”. ?? That’s unheard of elsewhere. I want to see Price and a demo the rest is exactly the same boring promo all the web pages have which I doubt anyone reads, I don’t, it’s all promo marketing speak and you rarely see what you want to know so on to the demo. I guess Cakewalk is the demo! What a confusing mess I feel sorry for any one who might have been interested.

  6. Okay, I get it. Sorry for misunderstandings. I was going by the industry definition which I now realize that not everyone knows. I used to be a software QA engineer (Macromedia/Adobe, Berkeley Systems, Informix, Learning Company and others) and "feature complete" is a specific term that developers use. Noel is speaking in Developer. Here's the definition of "feature complete" from the Oxford English Dictionary: "denoting a version of a piece of software having all the functionality intended for the final version but requiring some improvements and fixes before release." (emphasis mine) From the Wikipedia article on Software release life cycle: "A feature-complete (FC) version of a piece of software has all of its planned or primary features implemented but is not yet final due to bugs, performance or stability issues. This occurs at the end of alpha testing in development. Usually, feature-complete software still has to undergo beta testing and bug fixing, as well as performance or stability enhancement before it can go to release candidate, and finally gold status." Sonar is currently past alpha and into beta, but it's not into release candidate phase. (The Early Access thing that used to be a part of CbB releases used "release candidate" versions.) I know all this is coming off as pedantic, but I guess that's how "old Euthymia" is sometimes. ? I really just don't want everyone to be all worried about the upcoming Sonar release and jumping to conclusions. I think/hope that BandLab are savvy enough to price Sonar where it belongs in the current market and not restrict it to subscriptions. That's all.

  7. Valhalla Room updated to v2.0.5 New Space and Lo Cut controls. New in 2.0.0! Space controls the feedback around the predelay and early reflections. Use it to add natural decay to early reflections, create diffuse echoes, or make long modulated reverbs with the early section by itself. New in 2.0.0! The Lo Cut control allows the user to reduce the low frequency content of the reverb output. According to website this was released March 15th but first mention I heard of was today. Download available in your account folder: https://valhalladsp.com/my-account/downloads/

  8. "Feature complete" ain't "release version" A program in development can have all of its features in place but still not be considered ready to release. Some of those features might not work 100% correctly. This Backstage Pass thing is a sneak peek. Probably also testing the waters as far as pricing. You remember my handle from the old forum! ? I'm not that old am I? Is 63 old? Well, as you say, I do try to look good.? I did actually know about the Backstage Pass preview release thingie, I just don't consider it a true release. It's a preview. There's been no press or announcement about Sonar being released. Or has there? I haven't seen anything other than this sneak peek thing. My agenda is that I want to ease the panic and FUD. Wait for an official announcement that Sonar has been released and that licensing will be under this or that terms for this or that amount of money. Then we can raise the pitchforks if it's subscription only and/or you have to pay for a bunch of BandLab services you don't need. If that happens, my pitchfork will be waving along with the rest of them. I hope BandLab realize sooner than later that they need to nail down the pricing. Keeping us all in the dark ain't doing them any favors.

  12. @Stephen Power you cancel your subscription; simple. I will probably buy the yearly subscription, if it is confirmed that Sonar is included. Sacrilege to some (oh well), but I suspect that BL is trying to build membership, small price to pay for them rescuing us. Not to mention the five years plus free CbB. t

  13. That's more common than not with just about every developer. I don't mind giving this developer a few bucks. There's more positives than negatives. I get the impression he's not really into it for the money.

  14. Well it just keeps getting worse more interesting. We had rehearsal on Thursday and the pressure was taking its toll on our singer, who's married to the drummer. She and the guitarist let a trivial disagreement bloom into a big argument and he left in a huff, never to return. This is unusual for us, as we all generally get along really well. So yesterday we brought in a new guitarist and spent 4 hours working with him with the goal of deciding whether or not to cancel this week's gig, too. It's a good gig and we don't want to lose it - scenic location on a river, lively audiences and a decent-sounding room where we get to use our own PA. To everyone's delight, the new fellow really stepped up to the challenge. It looks like we'll go ahead with next Saturday's gig, even if it's with a somewhat truncated repertoire. The drummer has new drugs that are greatly alleviating his treatment's side effects. We're rehearsing again today and will get in at least one more session before Saturday. For my part, I am doing my best to project confidence that it won't be a train wreck. But there's a bit of a strain relief coming on Tuesday. I'm going up to Bellingham to see Penn & Teller, treating my daughter and granddaughter who haven't seen them live before. And since I'm not the one driving, it will be a pharmaceutically-enhanced evening for me. Brownies!

  16. @Stephen Power at present the Backstage pass offers you access to; The expanded, more tracks, Bandlab Web/Android/iOS app, and all the loops etc. Cakewalk Sonar. Cakewalk Next. It has nothing to do with CbB which is still currently free.

  17. I'm very happy with this one. The synths really shined in their 'optima forma'. Lots of sustained sounds which almost mimics low strings. The Prophet 6 is magical, and the Moogs are well, Moogs. The stuttering lead is a stack of leads from the Peak with a modulated (unsynced) tremolo.

  26. So "complete" doesn't mean complete and "completely usable" means it doesn't work properly and "Today you can get it monthly or get an annual BSP license upfront which is cheaper" is not the current price ? OK then. Regardless of nomenclature all I said in the first place was that to me the currently released version doesn't justify the current asking price.

  27. I doubt they are. They don't even fix the bugs you are reporting, being more focused on telling you which content you can post or not in your channel about their product. Personally, I don't see as much overreacting as happened when the commercial change was announced. That happens simply because we never get concrete answers on anything. It's either a half answer or the answer is everything which what you ask isn't. And that gets old fast. I find strange a company can come up with a whole marketing and revamp of things like forums, product pages and the like and a simple thing like communicating to potential customers what their options are is a herculean task which takes several months and requires preparing the grounds several times for some reason.

  29. Not just PreSonus - also Universal Audio, Avid, Waves, and Native Instruments, among others. It seems the industry is going in the Burger King direction - "have it your way." The beauty of software is that the Bakers can tweak the model easily over time. Also, I can vouch from personal experience that making backend changes to accommodate different purchasing models can be a nightmare. IMHO the Bakers are doing a fine job of nurturing Sonar and keeping it alive and growing. I don't think there's any question they deserve compensation not only for their current efforts, but for the work put into the program while it was free. It seems the only question is what form that compensation should take.

  32. Btw, have been working on a standalone version of the compressor. It's very near to release. It runs on an entire audio file (so, not real-time). Definitely planning on adding support for ARA-2 so it can work w/Cakewalk in that way. It basically takes the entire set of loudness measurements, then maps the histogram to a particular distribution of your choosing. This has the nice result of creating a gain reduction envelope which works "with the grain" of the audio. So, it tends to attack/release while the loudness is already moving in that direction. The temporal element just gives it lots more room to "optimize" the results. The whole "source => target" range thing begins to make more intuitive sense from this perspective, I think. Regardless, it was the original seed of an idea which got me to start developing my own plug-ins. I don't yet really have a sense of the complexity of adding ARA-2 support, but I'm definitely going to do it and looking forward to it.

  34. Thanks for the input @David Baay. I agree that we need to give the Bakers some latitude to process all the user input. I'm confident that they'll address everything in due time. I'm a long-time user and look forward to using Sonar for many years to come!

  36. AFAIK, Audition CC still has no MIDI implementation so it has very limited usefulness as a DAW, but it does have features that make it a good wav editor (background noise removal, scripts, batch editing, and the like). I sampled a TD-9 sound module years ago and it took me 10 times longer to rename the samples than to create/run a script to isolate/save all of the samples from one massive recording. 99% of those features existed in Audition 3/4 before it went to CC, and not a lot of note has been updated since it did. Out of curiosity I checked program-specific updates on things within CC a few years ago and updates are not overly frequent. The simple fact that a couple apps have free alternatives (DaVinci Resolve for Premiere Pro, and Visual Studio Code for Dream Weaver) takes a lot of wind out of the subscription sails. The Studio One+ is an odd one (someone posted they jumped off and just upgraded Studio One Pro, which was a prudent move). Unless you are doing notation, Notion isn't required, and it will host VSTis to boot, so sound packs are unnecessary... and Notion 6 hasn't been significantly updated in years now. Portions of the FAT Channel comes with Studio One Pro, and it costs roughly $60/year to keep current, but even then SOP 6 might be all most would need for their foreseeable future... as with most things, the 80/20 rule applies, so roughly 20% of a program's features will let you do 80% of your work. When new features begin to fall into the minutiae bucket is when to re-evaluate things. Software is one of the few arenas where a product isn't just delivered (a lot is due to the internet, so they can rely on patches and updates). If people bought a car and the manufacturer said, "Yeah, we didn't think about headlights, but it is definitely on our upgrade radar! Just don't drive it a night." People would freak.

  37. Open source is not the same than free. Why open source and not just free without support? As a first step to its pro version I don't think Bandlab is going to "give " the app code to the "world"

  41. Back in the day it used to be an ongoing joke that a band would break up as soon as they ordered business cards. It was more often the case that band members just got sick of each other after enough time on the road. Or it'd be a fight over a girl. Or someone insisting on doing their original song that everybody else hated. Such trivial reasons to give up. And I just bought a new PA, too. I reckon I've got about 90 more gigs to go before I break even on that one. Can't go solo - I need at least one other bandmate to help move the bass bins.
