  1. For my fellow fans of AIR's Hybrid 3 (best money I've ever spent on a virtual instrument), Sounds2Inspire have updated their Hybrid Ambience expansion pack. Best of all: it's still free: https://sounds2inspire.com/hybridambience/ As much as I love Hybrid 3, it's considered kinda old, so to see a soundware developer giving it some attention warms my heart.

  6. I finally had a chance to sit down and work with the new interface. I have to say that I'm really, really digging it. It's snappy, easy to read, and unlike Cubase and Studio One, it doesn't seem cluttered or have fonts that are too small. Picked up the subscription, and going to give it some heavy use.

  7. Quoting you from that topic: Okay, so it's via an extension to the BandLab Backstage Pass membership, but it's still just an "early access," which phrase has been used for years in this forum by employees of BandLab to mean "feature complete but not yet released." And that's what I thought. There's still nothing definite one way or the other about how the released products are going to be priced. I agree that signs point to one option being like PreSonus' Studio One+ subscription, where the subscription grants the user access to a variety of things, one of which is use of the Studio One Pro DAW. This Backstage Pass sounds similar and I wouldn't be surprised to see something like it continue once Sonar and Next are actually released. However, I would be very much surprised if there is not also a perpetual license option for Sonar. People can go on and on about how the software industry is heading in the subscription direction, but the fact remains that for audio production software, there is exactly ONE single DAW that is subscription-only, which is Adobe Audition, not exactly a force in the DAW market. Even AVID still offers perpetual licenses for Pro Tools. And AFAIK, the majority of DAW vendors have no subscription option. I'm not sure which ones do, other than PreSonus and AVID. So yeah, trends in the software industry blah blah blah, but subscription-only is NOT a trend in the audio software industry. Adobe is the only one who do it, and I think the popularity of Audition speaks for how successful they have been with that. I don't know how well Studio One+ is doing, but it looks that as with BandLab, you get access to a whole bunch of stuff along with the DAW itself. I think that's a great way to do it: if you'd rather have people on subscription, let the subscription also give access to premium services. The DAW that is said to be the most popular in the world right now, FL Studio, has pretty much the opposite licensing model: pay once and you really do get a "perpetual" license in that it grants you the right to use the product and all of its future versions as long as the product and the company exist. Same with MeldaProduction, a plug-in vendor I have watched grow in popularity. One major player, Waves, tried to switch to subscription-only and they still washing off the smell of the crap that got slung at them for trying it, also they are completely back to the same old licensing model they had before: I get an email a day offering their plug-ins on sale at $19.99 each for perpetual licenses. Subscription is merely one of their options, along with bundles and singles. I'm making the BIG distinction here between only selling licenses via subscription and having a subscription option. They are wildly different things. I'm a perpetual-only guy, but I also think that subscriptions are a great option to have for businesses and individuals who prefer to spread costs out or find it better for accounting reasons. The thing I'm most looking forward to at Sonar's eventual release is finally shutting down the panicky speculation about pricing and licensing....the bottom line is that we don't know what the release pricing and licensing will be until it's announced.

  11. Update - I decided to open an Etsy shop to see if I could sell a few ukes, and fund the next instrument design. Would you like your own custom, 3D printed uke? I'd be happy to give a discount to forum members thanks to all the help and feedback that has been provided along the way in my musical journey. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1696540481/3d-printed-soprano-ukulele This one has been quite the project. I got it into my head a while ago that it would be fun to write and record a song on an instrument that I made. Since my woodworking skills are non-existent, I turned to 3D design and printing. Since I was doing 3D printing, that meant the instrument was going to be a ukulele. Designing and printing a ukulele that sounded halfway decent turned out to take a fair bit longer than I was planning. But I'm pretty happy with the result. Ukology is the demo song, using the 3D printed ukes. Hope you enjoy. And if you have a 3D printer, and would like to print one, you can get the files here: https://www.printables.com/model/806849-soprano-ukulele/related#tabs Jeff

  12. Valhalla Room updated to v2.0.5 New Space and Lo Cut controls. New in 2.0.0! Space controls the feedback around the predelay and early reflections. Use it to add natural decay to early reflections, create diffuse echoes, or make long modulated reverbs with the early section by itself. New in 2.0.0! The Lo Cut control allows the user to reduce the low frequency content of the reverb output. According to website this was released March 15th but first mention I heard of was today. Download available in your account folder: https://valhalladsp.com/my-account/downloads/

  13. You tacked this on to a thread from 2019. Much has happened since 2019, especially in the past several months that affected TTS-1's inclusion in the current build of CbB (Cakewalk by Bandlab). See the following thread. If you have an older version of CbB, perhaps you can find TTS-1. Not sure if you only have a version after which TTS-1 was dropped. In either case, the 2024 thread would be a better place to ask for help than a 2019 thread.

  14. AFAIK, Audition CC still has no MIDI implementation so it has very limited usefulness as a DAW, but it does have features that make it a good wav editor (background noise removal, scripts, batch editing, and the like). I sampled a TD-9 sound module years ago and it took me 10 times longer to rename the samples than to create/run a script to isolate/save all of the samples from one massive recording. 99% of those features existed in Audition 3/4 before it went to CC, and not a lot of note has been updated since it did. Out of curiosity I checked program-specific updates on things within CC a few years ago and updates are not overly frequent. The simple fact that a couple apps have free alternatives (DaVinci Resolve for Premiere Pro, and Visual Studio Code for Dream Weaver) takes a lot of wind out of the subscription sails. The Studio One+ is an odd one (someone posted they jumped off and just upgraded Studio One Pro, which was a prudent move). Unless you are doing notation, Notion isn't required, and it will host VSTis to boot, so sound packs are unnecessary... and Notion 6 hasn't been significantly updated in years now. Portions of the FAT Channel comes with Studio One Pro, and it costs roughly $60/year to keep current, but even then SOP 6 might be all most would need for their foreseeable future... as with most things, the 80/20 rule applies, so roughly 20% of a program's features will let you do 80% of your work. When new features begin to fall into the minutiae bucket is when to re-evaluate things. Software is one of the few arenas where a product isn't just delivered (a lot is due to the internet, so they can rely on patches and updates). If people bought a car and the manufacturer said, "Yeah, we didn't think about headlights, but it is definitely on our upgrade radar! Just don't drive it a night." People would freak.

  18. It's a shame we can't do multiple emoji's. I'd do a "Like" emoji for the much ado reference; a "Good idea" emoji for referring people to the FAQs; a "Thanks" emoji for choosing a relevant quote that those with blinders on seem to be missing (some intentionally so); and an "LMAO" emoji for the brilliant Bitcoin/Unicorn allusion that for me gets at the speculation / imagination some people are responding to instead of the facts.

  21. Wow, I wasn't kidding about Adobe Audition's status in the DAW world as the lone subscription-only product. Out of curiosity I did a search for "Adobe Audition" on YouTube. You know how DAW's like Cakewalk and FL Studio and Ableton Live and Cubase and REAPER and Studio One have "channels" where a user will post an ongoing series of videos about the DAW? Yeah....not so much with Audition.

  23. What subscription scheme are you referring to? To my knowledge, Cakewalk have announced neither a subscription model nor a perpetual model for Sonar licensing. They currently have something where you get access to a pre-release version of it with a BandLab membership. But it's only a pre-release, not the actual shipping version. Did I miss something?

  25. The "Bakers" don't have any control over the rollout plan. They said it before and can say it again. They aren't setting the prices and terms - Bandlab is. We should be sending emails and comments to Bandlab and let the developers work on the program in peace. The problem with these types of "get your music heard" subscriptions is they don't work. Of the people I have spoken too about Bandlab, Landr, Soundcloud, etc. people rarely go there to find new music. They hear it elsewhere and go to these place to find what they heard. Now many of these places do distribute your music to various sites (Youtube, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, Jango, etc.) for a cost (to you) but in the end, playing live is how you get exposed. Tossing a bunch of tracks on Soundcloud and then having them distributed will pretty much get you nothing - most of the time. There are some success stories but they are rare. I really don't want to have to buy/pay/rent/subscribe to sites like this. I want a DAW. It's simple. A DAW. Bandlab is not a carrot.

  27. "Feature complete" ain't "release version" A program in development can have all of its features in place but still not be considered ready to release. Some of those features might not work 100% correctly. This Backstage Pass thing is a sneak peek. Probably also testing the waters as far as pricing. You remember my handle from the old forum! 🥰 I'm not that old am I? Is 63 old? Well, as you say, I do try to look good.😄 I did actually know about the Backstage Pass preview release thingie, I just don't consider it a true release. It's a preview. There's been no press or announcement about Sonar being released. Or has there? I haven't seen anything other than this sneak peek thing. My agenda is that I want to ease the panic and FUD. Wait for an official announcement that Sonar has been released and that licensing will be under this or that terms for this or that amount of money. Then we can raise the pitchforks if it's subscription only and/or you have to pay for a bunch of BandLab services you don't need. If that happens, my pitchfork will be waving along with the rest of them. I hope BandLab realize sooner than later that they need to nail down the pricing. Keeping us all in the dark ain't doing them any favors.

  28. I understand the OctoPre doesn't have an ADAT input. I didn't realize that the OctoPre actually has analog outputs. Thanks for the clarification. One would think the interface would have digital access to those outputs using an ADAT input! When I saw your post about the odd sounds heard when connecting external HW to the OctoPre, it reminded me of clocking issues that can occur when using analog I/O between two digitally connected interfaces via ADAT optical. My post about this topic may not be relevant to what you described. It will be interesting to hear what solution you choose for the expansion.

It's a pretty standard jam, but there are some nice details. The pan spread funtion on the Prophet 6 is pretty awesome which pans different voices. Switching the paraphony from 4 voices to 1 of the Matriarch sounded cool. Oh and for the Lego fans, in the background is the new R2D2 😎

  33. Back in the mid-70's I'd been shopping for an electric piano and had settled on a Roland product, mainly because it was only $400. That was nearly half my monthly day-job income at the time, but I'd managed to put aside just that amount out of a summer's worth of gigging. The week I was going to go down to Guitar Center to score it, my buddy - the band's guitarist - asked me for a loan. His old girlfriend was coming for a visit, and he wanted to show her a good time. The deal he proposed was that rather than paying cash for the EP, I'd instead finance it and give the money to him. He'd then make the payments for me. True to his word, he did make the $40 monthly payments - for exactly 10 months. Unfortunately, that left a balance of $150 due to interest. He claimed he'd satisfied his part of the bargain. That led to a falling-out that nearly killed the band and kept hard feelings going for a long time. In the end he agreed to keep making the payments until the bank said it was done, and we remain close friends to this day. But I've never forgotten the lesson I learned: don't lend friends money. That's why, when my current bassist needed a Sansamp, I just bought one without discussing it with him and gifted it to him on his birthday. That's why, when our former guitarist needed a new amp, I just bought it with the understanding that he'd buy it from me someday. Still waiting on that, but if any of us could ever become wealthy rock stars it would be him.

  40. John, I unplugged the usb and yes! I was able to record the combi sound to an audio track. I have my Korg connected to a Focusrite scarlett 4i4 interface with 5 pin midi cables. I also have the Korg 1/4 inch outputs going into the L and R instrument inputs on the 4i4. Just this week I added the USB connection in order to run the M50 plugin editor vst. Can't thank you enough for pointing out something so simple to fix my problem. With all these connections and daw software, sometimes you miss the forest for the trees. Again, a million thanks.

  41. Those services would cost you more money than whatever pricing Sonar charges for a perpetual license if they do so. - I don't know about you, but fixes are not features unless they introduce new functionality which wasn't present before the fact. - While the tempo track could be considered a feature, it's only a repacking of the tempo map stuff which already existed. That's one way to put it, considering a lot of what Bandlab sells is subscription based before CbB went commercial. IMO, the Export Window with its weird selection quirks and functionality which lies to the user is a downgrade. Because they never had an answer when several people asked if there would be subscription plans. If the answer was "no" every single time, why wouldn't they say it? And why didn't they respond to criticism towards the whole subscription thing and locked both threads instead? That looks like more profit if you assume all those users will buy those perpetual licenses at the same time, which is very unlikely. Even if they did, that will net $40,000,000.00 once. Meanwhile, your less profitable subscription plan will net you $48,000,000.00 per year with the same users as long as they keep subscribed. And they're cheaper on the long run because having a steady flow of cash incentives stagnation, which will translate in lack of bug fixes and updates on the long run. Or they're gonna do the same thing Adobe does and simply do minor version updates which do nothing but increase system requirements for that piece of software and break backwards compatibility.

  42. So far, users have to wrap our heads around, 1. The announcement was made, what, nine months ago? It's uncommon to say the least for a rollout to take this along. Especially since.... 2. There really are no feature updates. Just a HiDPI update and some bug fixes, which is expected from any product. 3. There has been zero clarity as to how much the thing will sell for and how it will be paid. The "pssst, over here" Bandlab sneak peek thing is lame. Sorry, it just is. Someone who subscribes to Bandlab just for the Sonar access might end up paying twice one the real pricing is rolled out. This is the weirdest, softest rollout of any software I have ever seen, bar none. 4. And Bandlab...some legacy Cakewalk Plugins and Virtual Instruments aren't really worth much of anything in 2024. Session Drummer? Concrete Limiter? C'mon man.

  43. Just my 2p's worth: I hate 'subscription' business models with a passion. It's a form of intertia selling. It all started years ago with gym memberships, where it dawned on companies that young people tend not to check their bank statements (especially when they're not on paper anymore), and only realise a year after they stopped attending the gym that they laid out hundreds of pounds in direct debits. Now it's weekly recipe boxes, exercise bike regimes, pet food boxes, software, online films, and a zillion others, not to mention charities that all jumped on the bandwgon when they recruited whizz-bang marketing directors from the private sector. "Look, it's only £x a month, a snip." It's a personal thing with me. I won't subscribe to anything, Guitarist magazine being the exception.

  44. So, here’s my plan. I will lean back in my chair until Sonar is released and the question whether it will be possible to buy a permanent license, or if Sonar only will be available through a BSP membership, has finally been decided. I have always stayed away from software subscriptions (ask Adobe) and intend to do so in the future as well. As for the BSP package, I’m only interested in Sonar. While waiting, I’ll keep using CbB as long as it runs. If CbB stops working before any such decision has been made, I have both Cubase and Studio One installed on my computer. Also, I have SONAR Platinum installed, so I will be able to open my unfinished Cakewalk projects reasonably well. In a worst-case scenario, I certainly won’t change DAW lightheartedly. I’ve always loved Cakewalk, but I will move on if the only option is a BandLab membership.
