  1. Respectfully, I don't think we need this here either. People have expressed their thoughts on prices from the moment the new version was announced. We've been around the block a time or two before, so we're pretty familiar with how people feel. We can't comment publicly on price points right now, but we have one in mind that I think most people here will find more than fair, as Noel has mentioned elsewhere. Details will be forthcoming when things are finalized, and nothing is going to change overnight. We just ask that people have a little patience while we do what we need to do on our end. Thanks!

  4. Noel, my bigger question is why people don't understand that you can't go into a supermarket and say "I should get my groceries for free because some guy on an internet forum says I should work for free." Call me crazy, but making more resources available for the new Sonar can only result in it continuing to improve. In any event, whatever it ends up costing, it beats spending $245 for a reel of 2" tape on which you can record 22 minutes of music at 30 ips.

  8. [rant on] I really wish plugin manufacturers would add modern settings like M/S, Dry/Wet Mix, Input/Output, etc. to every plugin these days. Much like Plugin Alliance does with their Toolbar thing. There's really no excuse, especially with these big manufacturers. A plugin of modeled hardware is great, but why not modernize it with features that every plugin should have available now?? I mean, come on, they obviously know how to do these things. [/rant off] That said, I put Blue Cat's Gain Suite plugin on either side of this last night to dial in the input/output level, and as @MusicMan said, it makes quite a difference. I didn't like driving this hard on this particular drum bus, but really liked what it did with the transients when I was just nudging the meter a little bit and blended it in. I typically hit the Waves version harder on my parallel drum bus. But each song is different, right? ?

  9. I think the CbB team have been absoloutely brilliant over the past 5yrs. How anyone can begrudge them transitioning to a paid model after giving us half a decade of pro level software and support FOR FREE goodness only knows. I see the Platinum Lifetime crowd still complaining over on Facebook, as if Bandlab who owe them nothing either legally or morally haven't already done enough already for the user base. Maybe Bandlab can give them a token concession against new Sonar to finally put the matter to rest. I've checked my spreadsheet and since April 2018 I've written and produced over 450 tracks with CbB many of which have aired in various TV shows around the world and continue to do so. That wouldn't be possible if CbB wasn't a high quality stable DAW with professional level features and it's testament to the Dev Team that a slew of fantastically useful features have been added during that 5yrs that are in daily use. Off the top of my head... Arranger Tracks ( This has gotten me out of trouble more times than I care to mention ) Articulation Maps New Export Module ( This has been a game changer for creating deliverables ) Track Folders Ripple Editing ARA 2 That's without accounting for all the bug fixes and small enhancements along the way. So thanks to the CbB team for the last 5yrs, I will be first in line to purchase the new Sonar. I think the last one I bought was Sonar8.5 as an amateur producer before finally calling time on that version and transitioning to CbB as I was starting to get my tracks used professionally. I sincerely hope most will follow and the new products are a great success, I would dearly like my DAW to once again grace the pages of Sound on Sound and be talked about by hardware manufacturers as a popular DAW their products need to be tested with and made compatible.

  13. I hope it does list at $499. Might weed out some of the crowd who are shocked and upset to hear that recording takes an actual expenditure of time, money and effort. Won't do anything about the crybabies with an entitlement mentality who are still sniveling about what they are "owed." They'd still bitch and moan if it was $1.

  14. SONAR Platinum was rent-to-own. If you paid 12 consecutive monthly payments, you'd own the version of the product at the point of your 12th payment. If you paid 12 months up front, you'd own the version of the product exactly a year after your payment. Once you owned the product, that version would continue to work regardless of whether you continued to pay or not. This is different from a subscription, which disables the product (either partially or fully) when you stop paying.

  28. Izotope seemingly have no way of validating if you are eligible for upgrades, so it leaves them very open to abuse. I did actually order the 5.x upgrade in the first week of August so was eligible anyway. But because of the way they bundle the licences, I just sell on what I don't require, which leaves me with a profit and two upgrades plus the two 3D reverbs. A strange way to run a business and maybe one that will dissappear if they integrate with NI more fully. NI don't make mistakes like that.

  29. Thanks! I'll have to listen to these when I have something other than my phone. The one thing I would say is you definitely can't match them based on the settings, they just don't align. I got them to similar levels of compression and gain matched and I was surprised how different the settings needed to be. Even how they responded to input levels was different. I did read somewhere that the attack and release times of the 160 changes based on the level going into it too which might play a part too.

  32. Nobody needs all the features. Nobody needs all the features. Your statement here is a Reductio ad Absurdum. That and you're trying to move the goalposts. We also never hear back from these people who get frustrated and jump ship. Never get to hear about the issues they run into over in those allegedly greener pastures. I'm sure my experience is not unique but the list of features I don't use is much longer than the list of ones I do. However, there are features not available in entry level products that really make life easier. For me, the value of all that extra money is in those features I do use that are not to be found outside the full product as well as in not hitting that wall where suddenly you can't accomplish what you want to do because of a missing feature. Like my other expensive hobby. Nobody needs a full featured camera; you can take perfectly good pictures with your phone. But when you can choose lenses with different focal lengths it opens a whole new world to you. When you can focus on what you want instead of what the camera decides, it opens a whole new world to you. When you can choose the aperture and/ or shutter speed you want to get the specific effect you want, it opens a whole new world to you. Just getting by is suboptimal.

  33. The cynicism in this forum never fails to amaze me. Why on earth would we or any sane company in our field want to hold users' data hostage? You do realize that we are one of the only DAW's whose project files can be opened in pretty much any prior version of the app? Would we do that if we wanted to hostage projects? If someone really needed to, they could open their projects in any prior product like SONAR 8.5 and get most of the data out. We also plan to have free versions of all our apps so if users needed, they could use the free limited versions if they never owned a Cakewalk product ever. The bigger question to ask is why anyone who cared about their music in any capacity would not want to pay a reasonable fee to support the development of a product they use.

  37. https://www.thomann.de/intl/native_instruments_komplete_kontrol_s49_mk3.htm https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keyboards/kontrol-s49-s61-s88/ The new Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S MK3 series arrives with completely overhauled hardware, polyphonic aftertouch, next-generation NKS implementation, and other new features. The NI Komplete Kontrol S MK3 series keyboard controllers are now available! Like before, the NI Komplete Kontrol S MK3 series is available in three different keyboard sizes. You can choose from semi-weighted models with 49 or 61 keys, or the 88-key variant with hammer-action keys. According to NI, the all-new keybeds were developed in collaboration with Fatar. The biggest news is obviously that all three variants now support poly pressure, which opens up new performance opportunities with compatible software synths and instruments. The keyboard controllers come with a comprehensive software package. In addition to Komplete 14 Select and the Komplete Kontrol software, you’ll receive copies of Stradivari Cello, Hypha, Guitar Rig LE, iZotope Elements Suite, and Ableton Live Lite. The new Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S MK3 series is now available at Thomann. Prices range from €749.00 for the 49-key model* to €849.00 for 61 keys* to €1299.00 for the 88-key version*.

  41. I'm easily coerced into frivoless audio thingies. Gainmatching was a bit of a b*tch, but the UA and Waves sound very similar. The NA was the odd one out to me. That one sounds more compressed at exactly the same settings (besides output gain). Native Instruments: NA160.mp3 Universal Audio UA160.mp3 Waves Waves160.mp3 You be the judge. I just made a percussion rich loop with some melodic elements and the DBX on the master (followed by a Pro L te prevent any peaks, but I don't think I overshot 0db.

  42. Bandlab bought Cakewalk because they saw a opportunity as a business. A music business. It came with a small dedicated user base that was at the time PO’d. Many had already jumped ship and purchased other DAWS. Seems Studio one was were most of those people went. So think about what they had bought and where it stood in the DAW community. Not very good at all. Generally it had a reputation as a buggy DAW that couldn’t be trusted for pro studios. I think the plan they developed was brilliant from a marketing and business standpoint. Definitely thinking out side the box. How to both overcome the bad rep and build up a larger user base. Simple. Make it free and hire the dedicated staff and set them loose to make it as bulletproof as possible. They most certainly met or exceeded those goals. And they even won back a lot of people who jumped ship. How many threads have I seen started with- “ I tried Studio one but I prefer Cakewalk’s workflow “. Ok on to phase II. We should all be proud to have been part of this process that will result in most of us getting what we wanted. A solid DAW that can now stand head to head with the rest and will be a lot more popular in the DAW community. Good work Bandlab and Cakewalk team. You deserve a pat on the back.

  44. Regarding bugs: in my experience, if a software is well designed, the difference is made by the support team: when things go wrong, it's up to them to give help. Regarding CW, at least in my experience, the support is outstanding.

  45. I think the price point will make a difference in how it is received. Since @Noel Borthwick stated that it will be 'very affordable', makes it reassuring. We all love a free DAW but a very affordable one will be good enough I am sure. We all (mostly all?) have a budget for plugins, and probably many we do not really use, why would it be such a pain to pay some fair amount for a DAW that we love working with? And let's be honest, all software have some level of bugs or functions not working has we would like, even those that come at hefty price. Software is always a work in progress.
