  1. SampleTekk has started a deals site called SampleTekk Deals and is promoting it by giving away their MONO piano, Singularis, reg. price $79 USD for free and includes a KONTAKT and SFZ version. The KONTAKT version requires the full version of KONTAKT. The SFZ version can be loaded in free SFZ players and the developer notes he tested it in the free SFZ sample player plugin, Sforzando. I'm on my phone at the moment, so I haven't downloaded this library yet, but I have most of SampleTekk's pianos, and they're a very good sample developer that specializes in piano libraries. The version of this they sell is available for the full version of KONTAKT and in the SFZ format. A video promo for the piano. This the link to get the free piano: https://www.sampletekkdeals.com To skip the home page and go directly to the freebie page: https://sampletekkdeals.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=66 This is their regular website's product page with information on the Singularis piano -- and yes, that name sounds a lot like an allergy medicine, but SampleTekk makes very good piano libraries, so don't miss out on this freebie: https://www.sampletekk.com/grand-pianos&product_id=294

  4. Take a look the following settings in Preferences, and see if changing them makes a difference: From the help: "Suspend Audio Engine When Cakewalk Is Not in Focus. This option allows other software to access device drivers. When this option is checked, other software can access device drivers when Cakewalk is not the focus of Windows." - If this is set to true, Cakewalk will be closing/re-opening the audio drivers every time it loses/gains focus. "Always Stream Audio Through FX. If any tracks or buses contain active plug-in effects, the audio engine will be activated and stream silence through the effects, even if the tracks have no audio data or Input Echo enabled. You will typically only disable this option if you want to conserve a bit of CPU processing if you play a project that contains lots of empty audio tracks with effects. There are several benefits to having this option enabled: Any effect with a “tail” (reverb, delay, etc.) will finish playing when playback is stopped. Effects will respond to automation envelopes, even on empty audio tracks. Many plug-ins do not update their UI properly until they receive audio input." - If this is NOT checked, then the audio engine will be disabled when you stop playback. This will create a delay when starting playback again - the length of this delay is also affected by the option below: "Always Open All Devices. With this option checked, Cakewalk opens all enabled stereo pairs of audio outputs as soon as you press play or turn on the audio engine. Any pairs that don’t have any tracks feeding them stream silence, but are still ready for use. So if you then change a track's output assignment on the fly Cakewalk doesn’t have to reopen a device, which can cause gaps in playback." - If this is checked, all device channels will be opened at once, so if you have a large number of them this could take time. As long as "Suspend Audio Engine When Cakewalk Is Not In Focus" is unchecked, and "Always Stream Audio Through FX" is checked, this shouldn't be a problem, as it's only done once. But if this isn't the case, then it could take more time to start playback. In most cases, it's preferable that this option is enabled, and you simply disable the channels you're not using.

  9. Every thread in this forum so easily goes astray! And, hey, I'm not taking shots at anyone else, because that would be total hypocrisy. Just kind of having a laugh at how far we go off topic. With regard to Johnny calling Steven Slate "an arrogant mother," I've only had a couple of conversations with Steven Slate and I quite like him. Yes, he's from Boston and definitely moves at a high rate of speed (I'm a Midwesterner, am a total people pleaser and have often been told that I'm "overly polite"; so yes, even while I'm not as aggressive as some folks, I still can appreciate them), but I think he's actually a pretty nice guy. A LOT of the well known sample and plugin developers have pretty large egos, some of them don't have great ethics either (I'm putting that mildly), and I don't know Steven that well, but in my conversations he was always a straight up guy and very respectful to me. He also has a good sense of humor and we share a great love of The Beatles (he even named one of his businesses Yellow Matter Entertainment -- of course, in tribute to The Beatles, a reference to their song "I Am The Walrus") Our first conversation he asked, "Did you catch the Beatles' reference in my company name?" And being a huge Beatles fan, of course I couldn't miss that. Anyhow, Steven has always been a really nice person in my experience and a lot of fun to talk to and I'm not saying that because I have a business relationship with him, I don't. I just sincerely like him.

  11. Lately I've been including a section in the main walkthrough video that demonstrates some of my favorite presets, starting with a few clean tones, some crunchy ones, and then the more specialized ones that use more effects, just to show the range of tones included with the library. For some libraries in the past, I put together a long video showing every single preset, though. It's a lot of work, but I guess if people really like those preset run-through videos, I could make one for Evolution Vintage Violin Bass as well. Yes, I feel strongly about the usability of presets, too. A majority of the presets should be solid, usable ones that fit into your track rather than your song needing to be built around the preset. That being said, there's room for some presets to have some amount of their own character that inspires musical ideas, but it's a delicate balance. Sample Library Review has the library in their review queue. I'm not sure when the review will be out, but they're usually pretty thorough about going through the different sounds and features.

  12. For those that don't know... If you subscribe to Vital for $5/month, you can use that $5 credit to pay for PRO. After a few months of subscription, you'll have PRO in no time. And you get access to the Subscriber-only and PRO-only presets. I wish more devs did this. It's a Win-Win for the consumer and dev.

  15. Dead serious, I'm contemplating shooting Steven an email that reads: "Hey Steven. I just wanted to let you know that your name came up in a forum when someone referred to you as 'an arrogant mother.' In your defense I basically responded, 'Nah, he's just from Boston.' " Hahaha. Before I get flack for that, know that I get grief for having a loud voice. A lot of people attribute it to my being Italian-American or a former rock musician. Spoiler, I'm hard of hearing and was born that way. But deep down, I realize it might also be the Italian thing too.

  16. Hello dear friends, I present to you the work I am doing. It's a simple song, at the moment it has no text, and maybe I gave it an instrumental, (sometimes I find it hard to write) 😞 I have titled the musical piece "We will meet again", and it is not finished yet, especially in the first part something is missing, and the part, let's say, of the chorus, I repeat it too much, that's why I will make some changes before terminate it "Nos volveremos a encontrar | We will meet again"

  19. I assume by your comments that you’ve not rendered/processed your v-vocal Region Fx. Try rendering/processing the v-vocal clips (make duplicates) so that you don’t need to have the region fx active. It might eliminate the errors.

  20. 1. No 2. Yes, see http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/Z3TA/Whats-New 3. Yes As with the original z3ta+, it is a straight up synth and not sample based, as was Rapture and Dimension Pro. The original creator of z3ta+, Rene Ceballos, was hired by Cakewalk after they bought rgc:audio. Rene went on to design Rapture and Dimension Pro for Cakewalk. Later on Z3TA+2 was designed by the Cakewalk team after Rene departed, inspired by his original design.

  21. To clarify, the 12700k does not run extremely hot. It's easily kept cool/quiet with a quality air-cooler. You could have a condenser mic just a couple of feet away... and not pickup any fan noise. If you're after performance (especially low latency performance), clock-speed is still the single most important factor.

  22. I’m with the GUI gang. I think a plug-in’s aesthetic is a great part of why I purchase. Got me into FabFilter completely. And I remember the first time I saw a skeuomorphic GUI. I was amazed at the detail. I even thought these were actual real-life products being sold, instead of virtual ones.

  23. Anybody who is curious about ujam products can download a free demo of any of these. These are fully functional demos--there's no difference between them and the purchased product except for that they only last 30 days. I've always found that to be a very fair amount of time to evaluate their products. For example, I have a template of all the Beatmakers I own, something that only takes minutes to set up. So when they released Berzerk, I decided I didn't really need it.. Based on their promo video, this seems to be different from all the others, which were clearly in a genre. This is a hybrid set that can do all kinds of things. But I'll decide if it's something I want. But I'm not going to buy it now. The ujam store is always 50% off on BF, and for those that don't have their products yet, there are deals on bundles. But much more importantly, you can pretty much count on this being available for $29 or less someday. It's just a question of how long it takes. I seem to remember one of the ujam drumsets turning up as a Plugin Boutique freebie once.

  25. Just a heads-up: I just logged into my PB account. It might be that I've not been very observant in the past, but I've just noticed that Virtual Cash now has a one-year expiry timeout. According to the help page, buying something will add to your virtual cash (as before) and reset the timer back to 365 days.

  29. If everything is going to be recorded via that preamp, you can add that 21 samples to the Manual Offset for record latency. But if you'll also be recording from your interface's direct inputs (hopefully not simultaneously), you'll have to manually compensate or change your Manual Offset for each case. Having one of your nudge values set to 21 samples will simplify doing it manually.

  30. Thanks man....i used a Shure PGA58 (not very expensive) to record the harp....i set the record level around -6dB to give it the best shot of avoiding hitting red....the harmonica sections are short so i recorded each section one at a time (there were absolutely no first takes, i recorded, erased, over and over until i got the take i thought was a keep)....i didn't use any limiting, just learned to adjust my playing from take to take....and Volume Automation was used all over the place to bring the levels to sound steady 🎶🎶🎶🎶

  33. I've arrived in the middle as far as creating patches go. I like using presets to get an initial sound that I like, then knowing my way around the synth well enough to tweak the patch into something with my own take on it. I used to think starting from "init" was something I should be doing more often, but I find it tedious to start from scratch. Probably a result of the Roland and Korg ROMplers I grew up with. Editing on hose tiny LCD screens and button pushing had me mostly using presets. Patch design can be very time consuming, and easily turn into a rabbit hole in productivity. I will say though, that Phase Plant, Pigments, and Vital are so intuitive that they are very inspiring to work with. I like the fun factor! I have not seen a sale on Vital yet, but the free version is the full deal. The Plus, Pro, and subscriptions just add preset and wavetable content. I bought the Pro version quickly after trying out the free version mainly to support the developer. It's not that expensive and I liked what I saw, so I want him to keep doing it! 😎

  34. I use the free version of Macrium Reflect for imaging. I only image the O/S drive every couple months. All of the data drives, and data on C, I backup with xcopy and robocopy batch files. Upside is those run quickly after the first pass, but the downside is you have to specifically exclude junctioned directories or they will drill right into the other drives and backup files already backed up elsewhere. Macrium Reflect stops at the junction points (and my C drive is riddled with them), so the images are roughly 110GB and take roughly 15 minutes to restore.

  36. I'd say in some cases that a 'flashy' UI can make a plugin easier to use, e.g. when you're programming a synth patch It can be helpful to see where you are on the ADSR envelope in real time as you play the note (helps someone understand the concept better too) Animating the LFOs can help you see what's going on with the sound you're shaping It's helpful to see which frame in a wavetable you're on and how quickly the frame transitions If you're morphing oscillator waveform e.g. between square and sine, it's useful to see what the shape is With a compressor/limiter, it's helpful to see before/after of the waveform as well as the compression level graph (or gain reduction meter) to see if you're hitting the threshold With EQs the analyser is useful to see if there are any spikes in your signal, as well as seeing the results of boosting/cutting. Realtime feedback on a goniometer is useful when checking for phase compatibility, though you can do this by flipping to mono I know they say mix with your ears, but sometimes it's useful to have a visual indicator too - especially if someone doesn't have perfect hearing

  37. Waves Version 14. VST3. Windows Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044 / Cakewalk by Bandlabs 2022.06 (Build 034, 64 bit) Another plug that has this issue is F6 Floating-Band Dynamic EQ while you move your mouse around the graph area where the EQ and line adjustments are located. ^^ That was my problem. I had auto-save every X changes. I know there is TWO auto save options. Save every X minutes AND Save every X changes. I had it set save every 5 minutes and save every 5 changes. When I set it to save every 5 minutes and save every 0 changes, the plugin stopped freezing the DAW.

  38. I'd like cool new stuff to come at a faster rate, but I don't think Cakewalk is falling behind. The first couple of years were a "target-rich" environment, where they had a many-years-long list of deferred bug fixes, code optimizations, and feature additions that had already been put into the pipeline. I'll go with "working on something big." For instance, it's been made pretty clear to the devs that the best feature they could add to give the program better uptake with the dance music segment is a built-in sampler. That's a pretty big job. Or maybe it's something else like the vaunted "chord track," or one of the existing areas of the program known to need some love like Staff or Matrix. Or better UI scaling. Anyway, I think they harvested a lot of low-hanging fruit, and now it's going to be something with a longer initial development cycle.

  40. Go here, and nominate your favorites: https://www.kvraudio.com/readers-choice-awards/2022/ As usual, they've ghettoized programs that are free licensed, but I "misunderstood the rules" and nominated Cakewalk in the categories I thought were appropriate. After all, it's been said many times that Cakewalk isn't really free because you have to register for a BandLab account to install and use it. 😄

  43. What you're talking about is technically called 'focus' (name highlighted, target of a paste, shown in the track inspector) as opposed to 'selection' (number highlighted, source of a copy, object of keyboard commands). Cakewalk deliberately separates these two states. For one thing it facilitates track-to-track copies In addition to just clicking in an empty area of the track header, the up/down cursor keys will move focus if they haven't been remapped.
