It’s funny that we are on this subject, we would be probably be having the same conversation if this was another acoustic piano library. Honestly the past few weeks I have been seeing such a shift in what my reviews have been covering (and some still to come), that it has shifted to electric pianos ? For instance right after doing the livestream on the Famous “E”, I dive into IK Multimedia’s Elektromagnetic expansion for SampleTank 4. When I first played the first few notes of the Elektromagnetik Stage 73 Mark V, I noticed a definite difference in how the attacks just did not feel as crisp as the Famous “E”. While it sounded fine, it did not provide the same experience as the “E”. It goes back to the same issues that we deal with when looking at any other virtual instrument category. Each one has its unique personality. Some of our biases are fueled possibly by the nostalgia of a particular instrument’s history, I know I am very affected more when I have that information. Above all, it is the feedback you get when your hands play the first notes, I know I am really going to love a library or love it less after just a few minutes of playing with it, first impressions are everything. Even more important than the story, is how much time the developer spent in getting things into that pocket of playability, everything has just got to translate or you are lost. Sorry for the rambling, but I thought it was so interesting to see how things seem to travel in bunches. Be on the lookout for more epianos coming soon. All the best guys, and happy 4th of July.6 points

Because there are still a lot of people joining the group buy sale right now, and less than two hours left to join, we've decided to extend the signup period by another week. That way you'll have until July 12th to join the sale and get 60% OFF all our sample libraries and bundles--and because we've already reached the highest discount tier, you can get that discount right now after joining. You still have until the end of the month to complete your group buy order, of course.5 points

I have been using CbB for almost 2 years now. While making a Piano Roll tutorial for beginners, I figured out a lot of stuff that blew my mind. So, I suggest even the experts to take a look. Cheers!3 points

@Eric Bohlke are you aware that the latest version of Cakewalk is available free? You need to upgrade and then you'll have support. There have been a zillion bug fixes and improvements since Sonar 6. The skylight interface is a bit different but a lot of the basic stuff is familiar.3 points

lol just figured out that Modo probably means "modelisation" in short lol3 points

Lol you still never told me what your favorite acoustic piano library is. That was when you were testing NOIRE. I said "if someone had a gun to your head and was forcing you to pick a single favorite, what would it be?" - but instead of you breaking down and picking a favorite you used an emoticon to act like you got your brains blown out lol3 points

you have to change the icon in the file, save it as a "normal" project file, then rename the extension to .cwt instead of .cwp. otherwise the image embedded will not change. if you open a .cwt file and a .cwp file you can see how the header of the file in the cwp contains a large MIME encoded image in the first part of the file, whereas the cwt files have the image embedded further into the file which is then used when you save the template-generated project as a cwp. here's the sequence: new (or existing project or project from a template you want to modify: add your image save as a "normal" project file rename .CWP as .CWT copy or move the file into the project templates folder when you open the start screen and select new project, you should see the template with the image if you want to change an existing image - use the RED X to remove then add a new image, remember to resave as CWP and RENAME to CWT3 points

Got my $50 PA voucher today and used it to get GP4 for $49.99. So I was able to purchase GP3 for $24.99 and play with it for three months, then upgrade to GP4 for $49.99. Not such a bad turn of events IMHO.2 points

Windows 10 will continue to be supported until 2025. So there's still plenty of time for things to be sorted out. Both for MS and the end user. Microsoft has just been releasing an early copy of Windows 11 to the insider program, in order to assess what will really work and what won't. I'd wait until the dust settles a bit in a couple more years before planning for any hardware or BIOS changes... The requirements will probably be a bit more finalized by then in any case. My 2 cents... ?2 points

Interesting topic. As a lifelong pianist, and former owner of a Fender Rhodes and a Wurlitzer, I would agree there are many emulations that are just fine, especially sitting in a mix. I, too, was initially skeptical when OTS released the E piano. However, I own all their products, and they do such a sensational job on them that I assumed it would be great. The real question for me was, "do I need another Rhodes emulation," I use NI's Rhodes 88, scarbee, and a personal favorite, Lounge Lizard. So, fast forward to the Summer Group buy, and I find between the group buy 60% off and my Orange Slices, I can complete my OTS library, adding the new Banjo and the E Piano for a grand total of $86 bucks! This is a steal. Now I am listening to the demos of the Famous E, and it's jaw-droppingly good. But the final test is playing it, and within an instant, I am in love with this one. As a pianist, some instruments inspire you, others are ok, and others are meh or yuck. Playing a Steinway concert grand piano is different than playing anything else I have played. Playing this E piano may not fall into that category, but I felt instantly creative and inspired. The response, timbre, nuances of even a handful of the presets I sampled were energizing. An instrument that makes you want to play it, and makes it hard to stop playing it--that's what tells me they have something really great. I am positive that from this point forward, the Famous E will be my virtual Rhodes of choice in future compositions. Heck, I may even go back and replace my other emulations in some finished productions, just for fun, if I have the time. And for the record, I agree wholeheartedly that if you don't really specialize in a particular instrument, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between them, and that is true for me, to a degree, for drums, saxophone, bass guitar and electric. I know quality, but the differences between the brands, emulations, etc., is largely beyond my experience--you need to be proficient and experienced with an instrument to truly understand the diffs between models. Or to care that much.2 points

I'm no Simeon, Christian, but I'd pick VSL CFX as my single favourite acoustic library. If you couldn't bring yourself to use e-licenser, I'd pick VI Labs Modern U. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't invest in 20-30 other libraries too, just to make sure you've got your bases covered.2 points

Well, honestly it is a close to impossible question to answer. I am finding that the field has narrowed quite a bit to should I say a possible top 5. Confidentially you mentioning NOIRE, don't ask me what is just ahead in a few days…stay tuned. ?????2 points

I was into Tai Chi for a while. All we had for music was boring New Age stuff, nothing like your kind of JM Jarre style track. Really good use of those synths at your disposal. Very relaxing, relaxing ... and then I became alert ~4:00 ? -Bjorn1 point

I was a fan of many artists that recorded with the 'Famous E' back in the day. So that makes it worthwhile in my book. Plus it sounds fantastic! I will add that the IK SampleTank 4 Max has some excellent e-pianos. If you have that, do check them out! You may find all that you need there, so no worries about history!1 point

USB ports can become unresponsive after a sleep, or just due to your power scheme. You can go into Device Manager and exclude them from whatever power-saving scheme you've specified. In Device Manager, locate your USB port (it'll be called "USB Root Hub", and there will likely be more than one so do this for all of them). Right-click on each USB device, select Properties and go to the Power Management tab. If the box labeled "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked, un-check it.1 point

Buying an instrument more for it's history than a real need. Now that's a true deals forum spirit! ?1 point

yes, it was in program file/vstplugins/. That was in my to scan folders and I had started and restarted the computer a few times. But now it seems to be running fine. it is easy to forget what a nice synth it is. Once I got it up I mucked about w/ it and some libraries. Fun stuff. Thanks all. And a certain reptilian persistence. I'll probably need it since registering Rapture Pro is on the list. I'vde got the solution so I did need any tips YET! We' ll see. Thanks again for being such a great Forum. @1 point

Seems you stumbled upon another one of the hidden laws of start screen icons. ?? The 4-track, 16-track and basic template icons is "unique" for some reason. You can't change the name. You can with the Guitar Amps and Vocals. Then there's the situation where you happen to delete one of the unique ones. I tested this by moving it to another folder and then using Vocals.cwt and rename it to Basic.cwt. It did not produce the Basic icon. I then tried this on Guitar Amps and renamed Vocals.cwt to Guitar Amps.cwt which produced a nice new Guitar Amps icon. I'm sure there's more hidden gems? like this that we don't know about. ?1 point

@Starship Krupa thanks for your analysis of the original problem. These are exactly the issues we fixed that have been around for about 20 years. We have literally had hundreds of support calls and reports about this over the years. Even though it was a huge PITA to fix I decided to do it since I was making similar changes for synth port naming which was potentially an even worse issue with multi-out synths like Kontakt.1 point

At the very least, the UI's need to be larger, or scalable. I don't use them due to the tiny UI. I believe there's been some talk of porting them to VST, along with a UI makeover. Would love to see that.1 point

I've listened to quite a bit of your stuff, and you have posted a variety of different styles and genres - this was a pleasant listen - nicely done. I liked the Syria voices. The mix sounded quite good to me.1 point

This is a great idea but I'd like to add one small thought to add to that. If you set up one arranger track the entire length of the intended length of the song and if you have set select events with selections then just clicking on that once will select all of the tracks & the length you need for export. (see below) Normally Ctrl A works nicely for that but in the case of a length problem the Arranger track will provide a nice shortcut.1 point

Really enjoyed it, nice to hear something unique. I really love the vocals, and would enjoy having them turned up a bit more, but mysterious as is. Good song1 point

Bjorn , I Loved the intro. The saz has a hypnotic soul stirring quality and paired with the tabla sounding drums was fantastic. My only suggestion would be to lower the flute volume. I Really liked the "air" in the mix. Enjoyed it .. mark1 point

Hi Bjorn, I think overall this piece is mesmerizing but I do feel it's unfinished. I think using the same drum pattern all the way through is a great idea but it should change, just a little to keep the listener engaged with the vox, the flute is also used a little too much and I feel it could be made more interesting if you altered the melody a tad. I have most of NIs samples and there is a way of putting more 'feel' into the overall sample ( not sure if your keyboard has after touch as this could assist in this respect) As you are aware I listen to your work, and have done with pleasure over the years and along with others on this site I always enjoy your tandem videos. I really liked this bit of work and as you know I'm no expert advising on instrumentals so if you don't wanna revisit this you won't break my heart ? Stay well my friend Steve1 point

Hi Bjorn , well for what its worth here´s my take on it , I thought the intro was a bit too long ,and then those tablas came in and were just great and it seemed to get busy from there on it ,rather than a slow introduction of the remaining instruments .vocals giving it a bit more atmosphere ..the sounds were great .. as i said just my take on it thanks for sharing ..cheers1 point

@Starship Krupa, @NOLAGuy alright alright alright I confess I also usually use Project > Time/ Measures also. However ripple edit works for me. I don't recall setting any specific options to ensure that Time Signatures, Markers, Arranger sections, Tempo changes also move with the clips. I don't need to select all in order for it to work. If I start with Track 2 selected, when I grab that clip in track 1, the selection highlight moves to Track 1 - and all tracks' clips are moved. Here:1 point
-
I want to ask @Colin Nicholls because my suggestion is to hit RTZ and go up to Project/Insert Time/Measures and make sure all of the boxes for what to "slide" are checked. I just enter the number of measures I want and everything scoots right over. Is the result or possible result any different from turning on Ripple Edit and then dragging everything? I prefer Insert Time/Measures because with dragging, I have to make sure that everything is selected (something that the OP ran afoul of), and then I have to remember that Ripple Edit is on. Which, even with the indicator....?. It slides markers, tempo changes, key changes, arranger sections....1 point

Make sure nothing is selected Enable Ripple Edit (all) Grab the first clip at 01:01 and drag it two bars to the right Disable Ripple Edit1 point
