  1. This guide was written by @Pete Brown from Microsoft who is also an active DAW user. I thought I'd post it since it takes a common sense approach to getting the best performance from a PC, rather than some of the stuff out there with outdated nonsense that dates back to the XP days https://aka.ms/Win10AudioTweakGuide

  2. Like my previous video comparing EZBass to the ujam basses, I've done a video comparing two different pieces of software to each other. It's mainly aimed at people who don't have any orchestral libraries and want to learn how they are different. Even if you aren't interested in the topic (it's a long video) please watch the first minute or so, as I think it's kind of fun. If that minute entertains you, but if you don't want to watch the rest it would be a big favor if you just let the rest of it run. ? Turn off the sound! This is my worst audio track anyway! Thank you all for your support!

  3. Maybe I'm amazed or maybe it's very sad, that people don't need to master real instruments any longer as they can simply draw and readjust rectangles in the dadgum piano roll.

  4. Mostly fixes for Apple, Ableton, Cubase. Removed 32 bit target on Windows. I am not sure if that means it will remove existing 32 bit installations, so you may want to back up if you have any projects on old hosts. Run Native Access.

  5. Yes, that promotion is supposed to be done but I let it go for a bit longer. You can thank Dr Brian May since he posted this today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLt5W0Kh_01/ Figured people would enjoy the discount today if they just heard about his collection from his post.

  7. They are being released later. From the link: "We've hooked up with iconic guitar legends Joe Satriani, Gus G, Marty Friedman and Slash to roll out brand-new artist presets for AmpliTube 5 over the coming weeks." The Soldano SLO-100 was included in AmpliTube 4 MAX so yes you already had it from there.

  9. The "prefer background processes" bit can actually hurt you. During the investigation for my tweak list, I looked this one up, because it comes up often. That setting is primarily for servers with background processes (think Database or web server) which need to be prioritized over the interactive applications. Normally, foreground apps get a boost to keep them responsive. Setting it to prefer background services puts foreground and background on a fairly equal footing, with some caveats. For DAW use, when using an ASIO driver setting it to "background services" : If the driver is loaded by a process other than the DAW (like a service), and doesn't use MMCSS threads, this setting could potentially keep the audio driver from being starved by a faster interactive application. If the driver is loaded in-process with the DAW, this will not have any positive effect because the audio driver is part of the foreground application process. If the driver is loaded by another process (like a service), and DOES use MMCSS threads, this setting will not have any positive effect. In all cases, when you set this to prefer background processes, you are causing all those other services that folks put in tweak lists as "robbing" processor cycles, on an equal footing with your DAW app, causing them to potentially use more CPU than you may want. If you are using WASAPI, the calculus is a bit different because there are more moving parts. And, again, if the bit running in the background process is using MMCSS threads (many do now), this will not have any impact because those have a different scheduling algorithm applied. As I mention in my on tweak list, the key is to measure measure measure. And be sure to do so both before and after the change, and in isolation from other changes. In most scenarios, this setting is not going to help performance of the DAW. In some cases, it could make it perform worse. Pete

  16. I also use https://vms.drweb.com/scan_file/ I get a lot of false hits on Virus Total, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it has caused me to double check everything. If I get a hit on both of those sites then I won't run a file. I got a hit on the Brave secure web browser installation file today on one of the scanners on Virus Total but got 0 on Dr. Web.

  17. Are you hitting on me? On a more serious note, why the hell would you want to copy other people's mixes? Just make your own! Do you really want your metal music to be so generic sounding that you can't even tell it apart from the other 5 thousand others that get released every 10 seconds?

  22. I couldn't help it and started watching the video. It's painful. The filters filter, the EQ EQs, the compressor compresses. At some point he says that this plugin has the "perfect amount of bands for an EQ." Dude, don't try so hard. As for workflow, there's always trade offs. What if you want two compressors in series? Also, I don't see a control to do parallel compression. Single window vs multiple windows is the same with tradeoffs, single is more convenient, multiple shows more parameters. "The really cool thing about this is [that] you can change the order of these modules." Plugin of the year. His conclusion is that you get "pro" sound out of this and that's why it's worth its price. What a load... Funny thing, the next video YouTube recommended was one of Dan Worrall's videos from the series "What's wrong with stock plugins?" I like the algorithm's sense of humor.

  23. They're trying to reach a broader range of users because professional studio's are all but gone. And the ones that are left don't care how much it costs because in reality it doesn't cost them anything. It gets passed on to their customers. I don't like it but it does save me money. I just signed up for Presonus Sphere. They present it a lot better than it actually is now that I have it and have looked at everything that is available. The only real plus to it is you get some cloud storage and Studio One Pro (current version) and Notion with all the add-on sample packs for Notion for less than the cost of upgrading just Studio One every cycle. The other stuff is nice to have access to, but to be honest, there was nothing there that interested me once I got in and saw what was available and most of the VST's they offer already come with Studio One so they aren't really offering anything special in that regard. My whole problem with this is, you are locked out of your own work if you don't keep up with the subscriptions. That's not right. Mibby is right, it should be rent to own. You should never be put in to a situation to where you are locked out of your own work if you don't pay a ransom. And true, you can just simply buy a permanent license for the software now, but we all know how the slippery slope works. That could very well go away soon.

  25. You know how little a plugin is worth when whoever is presenting it has to spend a third of the video talking good things about the plugin. Just take those 1500 bucks you were going to use to buy it, and get something like FabFilter's Total Bundle, which is 500 bucks cheaper and gives you an extremely versatile plugin collection that can do almost anything.

  26. Please go easy on me, this is my very first attempt at a comprehensive theme overhaul. Named after the 91st element, this metallic theme is light in tone and broadly based on "that other DAW"'s color (Classic) scheme. Thanks to Matthew for the help and also the M-Spec theme that I started from. Also props to Colin Nicholls for some elements of FLAT WHITE and Canopus for the knobs from his Gran Vista themes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7i0v7wphdwzql3/PROtactinium 1.2.sth?dl=0 If you find something amiss please let me know. I had to make some compromises due to the forced connections between sometimes unrelated elements. Always learning!

  33. This is my first attempt using the latest incarnation of East West's Word Builder and choir. The results are not bad at all. When I go to hear a live choir in a church I usually do not understand the text unless I have the program notes with the text printed given to me. So I included the words too. I may make a few changes in the next few weeks.... Jerry PLAY

  36. I was just looking through my account and the current prices for the plugins. Nectar3 Plus is my only "new" plugin. I've been waiting for the Tonal Balance no-brainer deal to upgrade Neutron and pick up the others. Now I'm wondering if this marks the end of any real sales? They are going to want to incentivize their customer base to subscribe. That would be sad because I really like my Izotope plugins... ?

  37. Big difference is that you're getting upgrades/updates for free. Not bad for people who depend on these to make money. Less tempting for the rest of us, especially if we've already bought many/most of their plugins.

  43. This is absolutely correct. Workspaces are for limiting/removing areas of functionality so you can focus on a particular workflow task. The idea being, that if the various modules / menu functions you don't need are hidden, it's easier to find the functions you do need. Workspaces are global settings which are completely project independent. It's up to you whether the workspace overrides the project layout or not. Screensets are project specific, and are for providing different layouts within that project. I tend to use my own project templates so that the screensets are at least similar between projects.
