  1. Is it bad that I opened this thread expecting to see a deal on a new little DAW called Levity?

  2. And here is my run-through.😎 This is a very wonderful and powerful sounding piano library, the same piano and room as the Spitfire Audio Hans Zimmer Piano library. Garth focuses a lot on trying to approach the presets as if they were fully master piano tracks, so a lot of interesting use of effects in creating the Snapshot presets.

  3. I found out when trying to vote for Cakewalk by BandLab as my favorite audio software of 2020 at KVR that KVR doesn't have an entry for for Cakewalk. Instead it lists "SONAR Platinum by BandLab" at a price of $499. It looks like the site was updated after the announcement almost 3 years ago and not since. In order to update the information and allow CbB users to do things like vote in the polls, I'd like to see the information updated. In order to do it, someone who represents BandLab must claim the account and then enter the correct product information. BandLab might also consider it desirable to enter the other BandLab DAW's as well. It's free advertising and promotion. Developer application

  6. Just as the title says. You can rename any type of track from the Console View by double clicking on the name field. Is should be the same for midi tracks when working in PRV. Please consider it, Thank you!

  15. I have been following your other thread and you are asking very good questions and taking the time to learn about the complicated world of DAW recording. Audio interfaces always will have the direct monitoring feature. This is a feature that allows you to monitor your input source directly before it passes through the A/D convertors so therefore the sound is direct analog and has zero latency. This is mixed in your monitors/ headphones with the playback from your computer via the ASIO audio / USB / D/A convertors which your DAW will automatically adjust for latency so that your overdubbed tracks are perfectly in snyc with the already recorded material in your DAW. You can have issues if you have VST effects that use a " look ahead" buffer. It is best to perform all overdubbing ( tracking) with all effects bypassed to eliminate this issue. You can also have issues with latency if you try and overdub tracks while listening the the sound of the output of the DAW instead of the input. The output of any DAW will have some amount of latency depending on the quality of the system. Input of interface A/D convertors add latency The system of your USB and computer add latency Your DAW can add latency and if there is a lot of effects it can grow. Your buffer and sample rate settings can change the amount of latency Then the USB going out and the D/A convertors sending to the monitors can add even more latency. So direct monitoring solves all this and then a good ASIO driver that correctly reports to your DAW what it's latency is so the DAW can correct this is also important.

  16. I've been working on a new theme and in the process I found some aspects of the latest Theming Primer to be, well, less convenient than I expected. Also, LibreOffice kept crashing as I tried to update and maintain the document. So, um, I've kind of returned to the original format, but without losing the handy ability to cross-reference places where a theming element is used for more than one purpose. I've removed Section C and integrated the information back into Section A. Also there's a lot more content. At the same time I've corrected the name of the PDF so that it actually matches the title of the document. The new URL is: https://prodigalsounds.com/sonar/themes/Young Lady's Illustrated Primer to Creating Cakewalk Themes.pdf Version 2020.10.17 I've updated the first post in this thread with the new information.

  21. I loved the flow of this song and I love instrumentals. Great guitar work. It reminds me a bit of the band Wolfpack ( a Six Nations band from Canada). I think that I'm going to give it a second listen - right now.

  26. Today you'd just strap an L1 over the master buss and crank it until the waveform looks like a huge square wave. But as a serious answer, there's really no rules. For a lot of the non-metal stuff I do, I tend to find the chorus is naturally louder anyway because it's thicker with instruments. It's only really if things are getting lost that some parts may need to be cut and boosted, but that's really song-dependent. If the goal is to get it properly mastered at the end, bear in mind that anything you put on that final master (compression, stereo imaging, limiting, etc.) will also dramatically change what you do with any volume rides too so you might find that the part ends up sounding "quieter" in comparison because a volume boost makes the mastering limiter work more to rein it in. I think the only real answer is, does it sound good to you? Does the client like it? If yes, go "yay" and call it done.

  29. Open the PRV on the MIDI track for the Synthmaster and click on the keyboard while changing patches in the Synthmaster. Or have a run of notes in the MIDI track and make them loop, with it Solo'd. Press play and your little ditty will play over and over and over.

  30. Well first off this has a songwriter's signature that I don't remember hearing before. It's super original, which is always good. Mix wise I liked it best when the vocals were doubled! On the single lead vocals, sometimes I couldn't make out the words, which is not a deal breaker exactly - but you might bring the single vocal up just a smidge, or better yet seek out the snare hit that inevitiably masks certain words in spots, and drop the snare out of the way a bit just for that conflicting moment. Or just go with what you got 'cause it's pretty good as is, really. cheers, -Tom

  38. You'll probably get more consistent results recording automation in Latch mode: This will stop the jumps from being created when recording automation. Notice the "W" button has an "L" in the corner rather than "T". An explanation of the automation modes can be found here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Automation.04.html ...but in essence, if you're creating automation for the first time on a track use Latch or Overwrite mode. Touch mode is more for tweaking existing automation, but to be honest, you'll probably find it easier sticking with Latch mode even for altering existing envelopes. The only gotcha is remembering to move your fader to the correct position when you stop your edits, and of course stopping the transport so it doesn't overwrite the remaining automation. @Will_Kaydo / @Simon Wilkinson - I did manage to repro your delete issue twice, but had difficulty reproducing again. What I did notice was that once the Jumps were all changed to Linear, the issue went away. So it looks like there's a corner case where it sometimes gets confused with jumps between nodes. We'll look into it. In the meantime, you can always delete the remaining nodes in a second pass. For the meantime though, give Latch mode a try and see if this works better for you.

  39. I need to look more into this at the studio I work at. They use 5 DAWS and CbB is one of them. Sorry I couldn't help with this. I was so sure that it was possible. Lol.

  40. Yeah - I just checked now at home. There's nothing like that. I might be mistakenly thinking of another DAW where you can even it out just by holding a key down. What if you landmark your automation nodes under the Customization > Snap to Grid TAB? Then try and hold down either Shift; Ctrl or Alt individually or combine them as you write in your Automation? Just trying to help with some idea's - I swear I've done something like this. Just not sure if it's with Cakewalk? Urgh!!! Middle-age is creeping up on me - sigh. 😣😢

  42. Done and thank you for all your help as well Robert. To clarify the issue: Opening a new project and using and audio input over ASIO with input monitoring enabled would create pops and clicks no matter the buffer size set in the ASIO device. Each click or pop would add latency to the return signal. If left long enough would add up to seconds of latency, not just milliseconds. I do not recall changing this setting, but reading the information provided, I must have. Or another user of this PC / DAW must have. (virtual beatings will be distributed <sarcasm>).

  43. If you draw tempo changes, it's easy to end up with more tempo changes than necessary. I recommend drawing tempo changes with snap enabled at a resolution that matches the interval between notes in the region. Your issue may also be specific to Kontakt or the specific patches you're using. You might try it with different instrument in a copy of the project just to compare. You might also try setting a non-zero BounceBufSizeMsec= value in AUD.INI (Preferences > Audio > Config File). By default (BounceBufSizeMsec=0), Cakewalk uses the real-time ASIO buffer size to process audio offline. Setting a higher value in AUD.INI, can improve rendering performance. I have mine set to 20. Values up to 200 are reasonable.
