  1. Firstly, whatever DAW you find that best meets your needs, and feels like a good fit - THAT is the DAW to go with. We all have our own ways of approaching music production, and we all have different levels of technical awareness, different sorts of 3rd-party plugins, and preferences, etc.... SO - my thought would be, that whatever DAW you happen to be in, getting the tracks recorded, at decent levels, so that you can move on to mix, seems pretty universally common-sensical, and in the mixing phase of a project, plugins work the same - same knobs etc., whichever DAW they are in, and such. And then any differences for editing functionality, automation, and all that - the different DAW suites DO present similar funactionality, with differences in how tasks are accomplished, and lastly, in general terms, one might be easier to do some audio-related tasks, while another may excel at doing things with MIDI data. I would say, as an observation in general, that someone trying to force any of the DAW programs to do things that it wasn't meant to do, or finding fault with any of them because something did not go as expected, when insufficient consultation with the avaiable documentation, can be rather unfair, if that is how somebody is approaching using any one of the DAW products. Each of them does do things a bit differently, so even if someone has some level of understanding of one or more of them, and tries to brute force one that they are not familiar with, to try to do something - when they have not bothered to even take a cursory tour of either the DAW or its documentation - well, that to me would be expected to result in less than the ideal or desired outcome. At the end of the day, whatever it all distills down to, for each of us, is what matters, so whatever anyone's choice, or choices, ends up being - WAHOO! Make music and be happy in doing it, and sharing it.

  2. You can't really believe this crap. I can come up with at least 100 other articles where the order is all over the map. The best DAW is the one you actually KNOW in and out and aligns with your workflow to get the job done in the most fastest and efficient way. The rest is just BS.

  3. Obviously the REAL Larry Shelby is the one in the last picture, and he's clearly giving some musical feedback to the bass player.

  4. Interesting...am very curious how Nembrini handle something Fendery! It does drive me nuts that developers aren't including some kind of reverb on amps that seem like they should have reverb (looking at you, Kuassa Matchlock!).

  6. Like their other sims, $29 intro pricing. That's through June 30. Full price is $137 but they seem to have frequent sales. https://www.nembriniaudio.com/products/sound-master-custom-tube-guitar-amplifier Looks like a clone of the 2-channel Fender Tone Master head from around the 90s. Note Fender has recently reused the Tone Master name for their digital recreation of a deluxe. It's not that one. Found via youtube, but doesn't look super-widely announced yet

  9. This is a subject that comes up a lot at workshops and seminars. Cakewalk offers five different types of dithering when you export - Rectangular, Triangular, and 3 different Pow-r types. Often, there's confusion about which type to use for different types of material, or whether even to use it at all. So, I investigated dithering pretty deeply, and wrote an article that includes audio examples of a file exported as 16 bit undithered, 24 bit undithered, and with the three Pow-r dithering types, as well as Triangular dithering (which you'll never use after you hear the Pow-r versions). To make the dithering audible, the audio examples are normalized to a level where you can hear the results of dithering very clearly. I hope this clears up some of the mystery around using dithering in Cakewalk!

  10. Indeed. Music is its own reward.

  11. I think it is more of a case of the "most popular daw with our readers" or "the daw we want to sell more of" rather than the "best daw".

  12. Sent a ticket to Kaussa asking same question about no reverb on their (Fender) Matchlock. Maybe if any Kaussa users here send multiple requests it might 'spring' them into adding it.

  14. This might actually be a thing... I recently upgraded from an i5 to the equivalent i7 on my "bedroom" desktop. This PC is completely up to date with 1909 updates (2004 won't install, but that's another issue....) Now my Studio PC is an exact clone of this machine (even down to cloning the BIOS chips so they have the same serial nos), but I've not cloned the drives for a month. I upgraded my Studio PC to an i7 this afternoon, but haven't yet imaged the drives with the new updates, and the difference in UI performance is very noticeable - i.e. the Studio PC is much more sluggish than my other PC.

  16. I've got it years ago in another giveaway and never used it so I should probably not need it, but since it happened that I have two accounts on their website, and they want me to pay extra for WUP to be able to install on two computers and I'm not going to do it, I thought now I'll redeem twice every of their giveaway starting today. Once they come back to their senses I'll consider merging the accounts because I don't really need two.

  17. I never thought of that. Creating and saving presets in MNotepad. Which also makes me realize that this is possible to do with Track Templates and could be a good idea for memory jogging. Also, I tried putting MNotepad on a track and opening the automation lane to see what parameters were exposed, and in addition to Preset Change, and Bypass, it lists Scroll. That might be handy for displaying lyrics while tracking vocals, which is something I found Cakewalk's Lyrics View to be....unsuited to my needs. To say the least.

  18. I figured my rant was a form of feedback and figured it was the most appropriate place to put it. I appreciate your feedback. I agree. I started with AcidDJ but didn't want to pay for Sony Acid to upgrade. I ended up messing around with Reaper but never liked the interface. I did the 30 day trial of Cubase. Some things on there annoyed me. I tried messing with Presonus Studio One. Seems intuitive but I am not ready to drop the cash for the version I wanted. The cheaper version was way too limited. I tried Harrison Mixbus which only cost me $29. Hated it. Nice interface though. I forgot what I didn't like about it. I tried Tracktion T7, the free DAW by Waveform. I liked it but it had a lot of bugs. I upgraded to Waveform 9. Still had issues. They gave me a free upgrade to 10. More bugs. I REALLY liked that DAW. It was easy to use and nice interface but it was so buggy. I had to recreate corrupted projects a few times. Much as I liked that DAW, I had to swear it off. NO MORE. I gave it so many chances. On to CbB. Same deal. Wrestling with a lot of issues waiting for things to get smooth. Nope. I was considering trying Ableton. I've seen many videos using it and it seems pretty intuitive but I ain't dropping $500 just now. Don't even wanna mess with FL. I also heard it's not good with recording audio. I would probably be using Logic as that seems the most intuitive DAW with a nice clean interface however, I cannot stand and will not use Apple products so that's out. I'd love to check out Digital Performer by MOTU but that too, is expensive. So here we are, full circle, back to Reaper. For now.

  21. I dont use the drm pane for editing notes in the PRV. I use the PRV itself. Excuse me if im not understanding but with drum maps you can sort, arrange those midi notes in any fashion you want. Dont get me wrong, Drum maps need an update, i would love to see that. but its never been a show stopper for me, only time consuming. But what isnt time consuming when your customizing something you are going to use over and over again. This is how i use the PRV for drum editing. I made this video years ago (around 7 years ago i believe) but i still use the same technique today.

  22. I don't know if they were able to get it back from whoever misused the code but Nigel Williams from MVP Loops did send a new code. It's details like this that encourage buying more of their products. 💸 Now Falcon is even more fun than before!

  26. I also don't like that. I have the Waves PRS Supermodels and I know they're modelling specific amps that, I guess, don't have reverb, but it makes the standalone pretty stale to use for practicing.

  27. I'm not kidding. All I seem to do is invest, invest, invest in equipment, software, effects, and instruments to make music that I have to pay to release and which doesn't pay back on the investment. AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

  29. Okay, I haven't tried to reproduce the entirety of your example, but, prior to saving the Track Template, try renaming the instance of Addictive Drums in the Synth Rack so that it is not anything like the default, for example, "AD2-T" for the template. Then, ensure that all the ports and In/Out selections reflect this naming, before saving as a template. Maybe that will be enough to allow CbB to differentiate between the existing or new instances of AD in the project, when loading in the template.

  30. Hence, me posting their offer here - GREAT price for Windows 10 Pro, for less than half of the retail version of Windows 10 Home. No-brainer for me, as well - I now have 2 new copies of Windows 10 Pro - one for the desktop I am resurrecting for the nice young married couple I have known for over 5 years - (they are just getting started, so money is tight), and I will keep the 2nd license for when I build my next desktop in a year, to replace the oldest one of 3 that I have (which is also running Win 10 Home, so upgrading to Pro with the new build is a no-brainer). I am SUPER stoked lots of folks have found the deal useful - it is quite legit, and just a fantastic offer. Bob Bone

  32. Sell your account. I was just thinking of selling my S-Gear 2, but it's the same as far as I can tell, no resale allowed. But with S-Gear, I can more easily change the details of my account on the S-Gear site, Name, Email Address etc, not so easy to change that self identifiable stuff on the PG site if memory serves me correct.

  37. Yes, of course you're right about the fact that they had limited tracks. I did remix this song and pushed the guitar to 50%L and the piano to 50%R to pull the parts together, I hope. Do you think it's still too wide? I don't mind playing with this mix. Thanks for your time!

  41. Yes the Apollo gets hot. This surprised me how warm it got. Same with my old RME Fireface. It gets hotter than I expected it too. I was looking at a octo PCIe card to go with the Twin. The price wasn't that much more than the quad, so I figured why not just go for that. Did not think of the heat issue in the box. Going do some research.
