This has nothing to do with a song but, since this is really the only place I post, I thought you all might enjoy a little seasonal humor: A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York the day before Thanksgiving and says,"I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough. "Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams. We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her." Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this," She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way4 points

Don't usually vent (or post here) but....I suppose I have been unwittingly spoiled by internet services up until now. Earlier this year we moved to a small rural town in Kansas - actually 2 miles outside of town on a nice municipal lake (which was why we bought) and only 50 miles outside a city of 400k. Internet has come to pain-staking halt. Our only options at this time is Hughesnet (of which I've never heard anything positive) and a local wireless service that "may" provide 5mbps download speed for $80/mo and a 12 month commitment - I ain't doing it! ? I had decided to buy a Verizon Jetpack to use which worked not fast but good enough - until the fourth day when I received a text stating that I had used up my quota. What???? Sure enough, while we have "unlimited data" (yeah right!) once you've downloaded/streamed a designated amount, it is CHOKED down to a crawl - even an email takes minutesssss download. I finally cancelled that but was unable to revert to my previous plan because Verizon had changed their plans and I ended up paying a third more than what I was before. (I can't find a screw-you-Verizon emoji) So , I find myself empathetic towards those who have the same woes - I've read your responses with sympathy but now I feel your pain & frustration! ? Lastly, after getting XO, I was disappointed to find that XLN has ablsolutely no provision (as others I'm sure) for offline installation. Usually, I will just go to the coffee shop or library in town and download to my SurfacePro but this does me no good when companies use proprietary installers without offline options. I love the ability to maintain products with these installers but learning to hate those that punish the out-lyers with no provision to at least download the content separately. ? I am experiencing a similar situation with drivers for a 3-year-old Kodak printer. I downloaded the latest software/driver/installer and it immediately demanded internet to check for updates without anyway to proceed beyond that. Uggghhh!! ? Okay, all done . If you read this far, my apologies but appreciate you reading ?3 points

BACK UP YOUR IK SOUNDS DOWNLOADS. If you are buying Syntronic or Sampletank or content make sure you back up the installation files for the sounds. Then backup the backup! I lost the sounds folder for my IK stuff in a disk failure. No problem with the Sampletank 3 content as I had the files backed up. But the Syntronic content backup backups I made are lost due to a mistake configuring Acronis. I don't own the full Syntronic, just 6 of the instruments, most of which I got free/cheap on various offers. If I want to reinstall its going to cost me 71.94 Euros to buy 6 download credits. (Less jam points) . As I seldom use Syntronic I am minded not to bother. 11.99 Euros to download the lot jampoints are accepted. Still important to backup though.2 points

I recommend checking out Brian Eno's OBLIQUE STRATEGIES quotes... Originally released as a deck of cards with 500 quotes, these have grown and been updated. I've put them into a text file that you can conveniently use to replace the stock built in ones in Cakewalk. (We added affirmations to the startup toast notifications last year) To check these out, simply copy the attached ProjectOpenNotification.txt file to this folder: %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core Just type that path into the Windows search bar and it should take you to that folder. Then save the attached text file to that folder. This will override the default built in notifications. You should get a sometimes cryptic but always thoughtful random oblique quote the next time you open a project file. (assuming that you have notifications enabled in preferences | customization | display) You can even add your own quotes to that list or make up your own list of creativity tips. I've had these on for a long time now and they never fail to entertain or inspire. YMMV PS: The original Oblique Strategies deck is still available from Brian's website. If they re-offer the BBCSO intro price for the weekend (which I think everyone believes they will) and throw this in as a bonus I may have to re-think Spitfire's role in my instrument library.1 point

Hi John I like the start - in the intro are those Chinese Winds Mini DIZI flute from Kong Audio - I purchased a few of the Kong Libraries many years ago for a project i was working on - a friend of mine ran the Great Wall of China for Charity and we were doing a documentary - unfortunately the money never appeared!!!!! And I don't think I've ever used them since, so great to hear how they can be incorporated into a modern song. Like the song and the lyrics - some good stuff in there. Personally I don't have an issue with the length of the intro, but I do know today the fashion is to have short intros Good stuff, thanks for sharing Nigel1 point

Bounce the selection to a new track named Master Bounce that routes directly to Main Outs, and group that track's mute button in opposition with the Master bus. Always maintain that track's position as the last track in the project. Whenever you need to do another export/bounce, start by selecting the Master Bounce track and clicking the clip to define the time range, Then Shift+click the first track in the project to select the same range on every other track, and export/bounce with Source = Buses, and only the Master Bus selected. The Master Bounce track is both muted and not routed through the Master bus, so it won't be included. I usually bounce to a new track, and then drag that clip to a new lane of the Master Bounce track and solo the lane. That way, 'masters' are saved with the project, and I can toggle the track mute to A/B between the bounced mix and the live mix on the Master bus to verify everything rendered correctly. I can also toggle between different master bounces, using the lane solo buttons.1 point

One thing I find interesting is that there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference in latency between their USB 2 and USB C interfaces. I've been looking at the Ultralite Mk4 and the M4. Ultralite Mk4 - the UltraLite-mk4 delivers an astonishing round trip latency (RTL) of 1.83 ms (milliseconds) on OS X and 1.84 ms on Windows over USB (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample host buffer) M4 - thanks to MOTU's expertly engineered USB drivers, which deliver class-leading, ultra-low 2.5 ms Round Trip Latency (at 96 kHz with a 32 sample buffer)1 point

When I close my eyes and listen to this, I can imagine that I'm in an intimate club, and I can see the stage and hear the musicians right in front of me. The song is cool and catchy, and the performances feel sincere. Kudos!1 point

Wookiee - Thanks for giving my song a listen - I appreciate it. emeraldsoul - Thank you very much for your kind comments. Regarding the tuning, it sounds ok to me - I think you have a better ear for tuning than I do. I used a Snark for the electric guitars and bass guitar - so I thought they were ok. Anyway, thanks for listening to my music.1 point

I am a sax and both wind and keyboard synth player. Most reed instruments use lip vibrato (pitch) more than diaphragm vibrato (volume). Flute players use diaphragm more although rolling the flute under your lip will create pitch bends. For simplicity many of us call lip vibrato and diaphragm tremolo. I'll address vibrato (not tremolo) 1) When reed players are using vibrato the pitch usually goes from pitch, down to under pitch and back. If it ever goes sharp, it's not much. Why? It's the nature of the beast. It takes more effort to bend higher than the pitch. 2) On reed instruments, as the tone goes below pitch is gets darker, and as it goes back up to pitch it gets brighter. Your synth needs to do this or it won't sound quite right. The Physical Modeling Yamaha VL70m does this well (sadly out of production) 3) Constant speed like an LFO gives is rarely used. Sometimes starting slow, gradually increasing, and sometimes slowing again. Sometimes a subdivision of the tempo. Sometimes a contrast of the tempo (triplet feel over a straight eighth note rhythm and other variations). Sometimes not at all. It depends on the note, it's context in the emotional part of the song, and the artistic (or non-artistic) urges of the player. 4) Again depending on the song and context, some notes are hit flat for tension and brought up to pitch before engaging vibrato 5) Not only speed but intensity is governed by the note in it's context in the song. 6) It's not usually a sine wave but the amount of pitch vs a period of time is not sinusoidal. The player and the characteristics of the reed/mouthpiece/horn bore decides. In other words, vibrato is not an on/off, LFO deal. It's an artistic device used by many reed players to enhance the emotional impact of the song. Rather than LFO you might try using a joystick and setting the pitch bend to something less than a half step. I usually use a Wind MIDI Controller when I want to put reed and brass parts into a song (Yamaha WX5). I hope this helps. Insights and incites by Notes1 point

OK:) https://1drv.ms/u/s!Al2mKojzOW0MmdV9qd4TY1rwZUlFlg?e=i5BgiE Here's the project "rar" with deleted everything but this 1 Track with 1 Lane with only 1 Song splitted 4-5 times and the behaviour still exist on my PC. New track and this file over Mediabrowser works. Copying directly into another track nudging with hotkeys doesn't work properly. Greetz:) Bassman.1 point

In the Spring of 2018 I went on my first cruise with Carnival. The shows and talent were good but the "loudness" was really unbearable. The mix on the tracks & band was good but as soon as the vocals came in, they just blared. While I have walked out/away because of poor talent, I haven't walked out of a venue because it was too loud - until that trip. I wasn't going to sit there and hold my hands over the ears. It hurt. I was watching the sound person. The show was nearly all automated and she never once adjusted (mixed) vocals - individually or grouped. My hands would have been all over the faders throughout. I complained to the cruise director and told him first that it was unhealthy and not beneficial to the performers or the audience and second that there was nothing enjoyable about tolerating the volume. When the survey came following the trip, I voiced the same concern and my observations of the performance. Much to my surprise, I received a reply, phone number, and request to call. I did and we had a really good conversation about volume, mixing, and automation pros & cons. He did say that they have had some issues with that particular engineer. So, kudos to Carnival for the follow-up and at least acknowledging their quality assurance. Coincidentally, my wife is a nurse administrator and I have done some Occupational Medicine training and testing. Earlier this week, I learned to do listening tests. OSHA standards state that exposure to 8 hours with a Time Weighted Average (TWA) of 85db would require the company to do annual tests to verify whether shifts in hearing thresholds occur so they can make needed changes in hearing protection. We did testing for a local company and it was very interesting to see the individual differences. The test is administered blindly beginning at 25db (for each frequency) at 1000hz for approximately one second while they respond when they hear the signal. If not, you decrement 10db test then increment 5db until they hear which is their threshold for that frequency. We then test at 500hz, 2000hz, 3000hz, 4000hz, 6000hz. It was quite interesting as some e.g. might have a threshold at 0db at 2000hz, 30db at 3000hz, 20db at 4000hz. It was really varied. I even had a few who went to 90db at 3000hz - I could literally hear the signal before they acknowledged and they had closed-ear headphones on. I came away with a new appreciation for hearing health and hearing-aid providers who should actually take the time to personalize devices and EQ for individual customers. We all hear differently which I would assume means we mix differently as well?1 point

From the point of view of cool songwriting, vocal delivery, instrumentation, laid-back vibe, picture-painting lyrics, tasteful guitar work, and "holding the listener's interest" - your stuff is as good as I've heard just about anywhere. I'd pay to see you live, and pay to be in your band. So just a little push for that next level, if there is one for you, is to get more rigid with the tuning between your guitars / bass. Unless you are going for an intentionally detuned chorusey effect across all of your guitars? And whatever, prolly matters not. It remains extremely listenable and great songs are great songs period. cheers, -Tom1 point

This sounds like expected behavior when the track's Edit Filter is set to Clips. Haven't double-checked the beahvior, but make sure the Edit Filter is set to Automation. EDIT: I interpreted "selects the envelope itself" to mean "selects the clip itself. Also, I just checked, and lassoing individual envelope nodes works as expected here if the Edit Filter is set correctly.1 point

Correct me if I’m wrong, as we’ve reviewed your work, some classic bands, artists get mentioned. You know what, your style is as unique as any mentioned. I’m digging it brother. I was going to say, “maybe I’d go with a little cleaner tone on that rhythm guitar”; but belay that, its your tune, its you! Fine work Doug, fine work all around. Tom1 point
