audinf
Hi I have a (quite big) project that opens and works OK in Cakewalk by Bandlab, but in Sonar, when it reaches the final loading stage, it opens the mixer, opens a plug-in window that was left open and then stays there, without opening the main window (Arrange). The same project doesn't have problems in Cakewalk. I would rather prefer to keep using Cakewalk than being forced to change to this new Sonar, It doesn't seem reliable to me. msmcleod
Please PM @Jonathan Sasor a copy of your project (just the .cwp file should suffice) - we'll take a look.
audinf
Project sent by PM, as requested. Thanks.
msmcleod
Here were my findings: - Double clicking on the project in windows explorer, launches Sonar and causes the crash - Opening Sonar first, then opening the project didn't cause a crash. However, it looks like the bug that caused the original crash has been fixed, so the next update of Sonar should fix this for you. In the meantime just open Sonar first, then load the project. @audinf [EDIT] - Just realised, my initial test where it crashed was on a slightly earlier development build. I'm not able to reproduce the hang you're seeing on build 14, although it did take some time to load due to Kontakt taking forever in attempting to load libraries. Can you capture a dump file when it's in its hung state, and send it to @Jonathan Sasor ?

Can you capture a dump file when it's in its hung state, and send it to @Jonathan Sasor ? I ALWAYS do what you said (first open Sonar, and only then open the project. And I don't have a "crash" - I have a "freeze". The program display a message saying that it is opening and "almost ready" but remains there forever. As I said, it opens the Mixer, even opens the plug-in window, bit doesn't open the main windows (Workspace). I use the mixer detached, in a second display, so that's probably why it opens it. A reason I suspect may be the origin of the problem (but it just shows in this project, not in others, which is strange) is that the displays have different resolutions - the main display is 4K while the secondary is 1K (Full HD). But there's another bug in Sonar, that wasn't present in Cakewalk - the mixer ALWAYS hides the tracks and I have to ALWAYS drag the Bus track to show the others. This shouldn't be necessary. You seem to have messed the graphics whit the new GUI (a useless "improvement", BTW) - See the attached image. Again, I'd rather keep using the old Cakewalk by Bandlab. I see nothing in this new Sonar that looks like an "improvement" (quite the opposite)

I will try to look for a crash dump (if there is one - I force the program to quit, so I'm not sure if that counts as a crash) and will send it to you. Thanks. Noel Borthwick
No that will not help. You have to capture a "hang dump" from task manager. See the post that Mark linked to. There are hundreds of things that can cause any given symptom for a hang so without a dump file we have no way of identifying the cause - which could very well be a side effect of one of the plugins in the project. There is a new release of Sonar coming out today so try that and see if it changes anything. There are lots of changes to app startup and some for loading projects so that could change the behavior you are seeing. If not capture a dump file and send it to us. Thats the only way. There is no option to continue using Cbb as has been mentioned. There are hundreds of thousands of users using Sonar without problems so if you have an environmental specific issue work with support and we can try and get a resolution.
audinf
The latest update (from yesterday) apparently solved the problem. I finally was able to open the project, and it worked and played normally. However, the anomaly with the mixer remains. I call your attention to that. The mixer should open the way it was left, not with all the channels hidden, IMO. BTW - That nag screen is supposed to be there always in the free tier? Quite annoying. Something I'd like to clarify. Back in the day, I bought the lifetime license of the old Sonar Platinum. I know that's not your responsibility anymore (another company, etc.,although the same people), but shouldn't I be entitled to some kind of "upgrade" offer? There was a fix that went in for this, but if your project was saved previously with the bus strips expanded, that will persist. Try resaving the project. You can check for the fix if you create a new project with the stock Basic template and see how it looks.

There is no upgrade offer for a different product that was from a different company. An annual license for Sonar is super cheap and there are often promos that drop it even further. We did offer promo's to Cbb users at one point.

For the love of god, let it go Good News: you are entitled to upgrade to the new Sonar for a very low price. 3
