mark skinner Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Hello , here is another dropped "d" funk instrumental. Same old instruments , acoustic/electric and lap steel. First project in "Sonar" just checking things out and trying a few different things. No static panning except for the drums and bass. Everything is moving around gently. (headphone help). This is also the first time using "channel tools" for widening or mono to stereo conversion. Special thanks to @David Baay for his comments in the tutorials section in the "converting mono to stereo thread". Anything sticking out that need attention , let me know . Thanks .. mark https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=15048216 7
Paul Bush Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I really liked the acoustic tones and overall feel of the song i thought maybe the drums were a tick too loud (present) great guitar riffs cheers P 1

Ross S Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Outstanding work Mark, groovy jam and nice production! 😎👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶 1
treesha Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Sounds great love the layering. Clean and dense, not easy to do ! Great playing. I did use headphones and will check out the post you mention. Talent and skill the only thing sticking out. Congrats on your first sonar song working out well ! 1
mark skinner Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 Special thanks to @Kevin Walsh , @Ross Smithe , @Larry T. , @treesha , for the listen and further comments. I'm on my second Sonar project now and having some minor problems , hopefully I'll sort them out. Thanks .. mark 1
equality Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Awesome! Sounds live with excellent mix and arrangement. Very tasteful. 1
steve@baselines.com Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Nice funky groove Mark, good work. Did you sign up for Sonar or are you using the free one? I just upgraded to a win 11 computer, and installed the latest free version on it. Pretty impressive. I was able to go to the old Cakewalk site and get the extras, like Dimension Pro, Z3ta, Rapture, etc. So far so good. The delayed startup at the beginning is a bit of a dick move, but overall, a good quality release. 1
mark skinner Posted July 16 Author Posted July 16 Thanks @equality for the listen and comment 👍 @steve@baselines.com , I'm presently using the free version of Sonar. I am having a few problems with pro channel modules (UI) and transport issues where the cursor just stops where it is when using the spacebar , instead of returning back to the now time. Yes the countdown is annoying . I work "offline" so I also get a "can't login" message that I have to clear after that. I remember the same countdown was present in CbB for a while. Hopefully this won't last forever. ms

Have you checked the On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker in the Track View Options?

Yes , and I've turned it off then back on several times. (Good question) .. I've compaired my settings against CbB and haven't found anything different. When I press play or use the spacebar it jumps back to the beginning then plays. I'll do some further troubleshooting and open a thread in the proper place if I can't get it resolved. Thanks .. ms Edited July 16 by mark skinner

I just checked my latest project in Sonar free and it works as it should. Very curious. Might the problem be some Now Time setting? If it were me, I would reinstall the program to see if that had any effect. But that's one of my first go-to problem solvers, like rebooting. 1

Bajan Blue Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Hi Mark I tried to have a listen, but I couldn't get past the security check page - kept saying I had got the answers correct, but then just put up another page of pictures!! I'll try again a bit later weird Cheers Nigel

Barry Seymour Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Man, when I grow up I want my recordings to sound like this. Everything is super clear, blends together so well. Lots of great textures, great groove! Just needs a singer! 😉 1
PJH Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Really nice track Mark! Audio production sounds excellent! If I could suggest one thing it would be maybe drop the level of the hi hat slightly. Other than that tiny thing I think it's excellent! 1
