timeworx
CAL scripts are a feature of Cakewalk that sets it apart from most other DAWs. Having a software development background certainly helps if you intend to customize these scripts, but even out of the box, the flexibility they provide is immeasurable. I work with A LOT of MIDI and being able to humanize in detail turns MIDI into MAGIC, Not only simulating human feel but eliminating the annoying FLAMs that spike when multiple MIDI instruments land on exactly the same time. I'm always tweaking, but before I customize any further... will CAL scripts be depreciated in future versions of Cakewalk Sonar?
Glenn Stanton
hopefully not. @Noel Borthwick ?
Serge Daigno
Since Bandlab will end soon, it would be really a big loss if CAL scripts were not maintained into Sonar, @Noel Borthwick, something to say ?

timeworx
Well, today I just made a discovery that REALLY makes the long term integration of CAL scripts essential: ChatGPT knows how to script with Cakewalk Application Language! Now, I'm not a total sell-out... I am a well-versed IT professional who has managed senior software development teams for years. Clunky as it may be, I can and do write my own custom scripts in CAL. But having a tool to assist is certainly a bonus. I'm ever fine tuning MIDI humanization scripts to mesh with my specific compositional techniques and compiling rules for humanization that included conditional handling of notes/strums vs. chord changes and articulations can be quite a handful. Even just the act of laying out the details enough for ChatGPT to get the whole picture of what I'm trying to accomplish amounts to an excellent design session to have all my bases covered. Example :: Requirements 1. Design a humanization script for an virtual acoustic guitar instrument 2. Ensure that the notes/strums played continue to work with chord changes and articulations in the same manner that they did prior to the humanization. Doesn't sound like much, but there's a lot of detail in there: MIDI notes typed by range; Separate rules for articulation type; variations in articulation handling from one instrument (or manufacturer) to the next. Lots of fun on the horizon...!
pedwal wally wally wha
It was stated many years ago that CAL was deprecated and not getting development, there was some small talk about a replacement, I suggested powershell, but that was deemed too much work, it's nice that they still work 👍

At the risk of going off-topic, the creators of ChatGPT and its ilk have trained their predictive text engines on a LOT of information made freely available on the Internet, including a LOT of obsolete or deprecated technologies, but that isn't a reason to bring those technologies back. Other than declaring CAL Scripts as an unsupported and unmaintained feature of Sonar, there has been no hint of it being removed. Would it make a difference if someone promised not to remove it? I think we've all been around the block enough to know that anything and everything is subject to change with no notice at all (sometimes we get a month, nice!) regardless of what anyone has been promised in the past. I don't expect CAL to suddenly become unavailable in Sonar, for what it's worth.
timeworx
I hope that's the case. The change to vector graphics killed themes - which were customized over many hours of work. I'd hate the same to happen here.

If so try out your CAL scripts
