Bad Blood (Gary Brun master)

Recommended Posts

Hello , I recently finished building a cigarbox style lap steel. This is my first attempt at playing and recording it.  I'm pretty slow with it and not used to using a slide. Hopefully some trickier stuff will come later..

Regardless of how you feel about the lyrics , feedback and suggestions for improvement would be nice .

I'm getting pretty fed up ..

When you wrote before you working on a slide guitar I was looking forward to hearing it.
It sounds great.

I am sure you will master this..  why are you getting fed up?
Hang in there pal.

great song, reminds me of driving a big american car down a big empty freeway,  A feedback or suggestion would be to change the fade out at the end, its a bit linear and long. Listening to the rest of your songs as we speak, very nice stuff.

Thanks to "Everyone" who listened and commented on this one.

Sorry to @garybrun, @hsmusic , @treesha , @Larry T. , @Marshall , @Mr No Name , @freddy j.

I thought I had responded back , but apparently I didn't.  I'm calling this one done but.. I've been working on it All week playing with my own  mastering .  I'm normally happy with mine until I get an impressive one from Gary.

Always a Lot to learn.       Thanx ,    mark

Cheers Mark. First, if that's ur cigarbox lap steel in the pic, you did a great job. It looks awesome. Second, I love the vibe of the song and the imagery.  And as always, I love ur voice. You have a great Stephen Stills type voice with a cool, lazy delivery. I LOVE it!

Anyway, if it were me, in time Id def revisit this song and give it a couple of verses using a diff vocal melody(or perhaps just spoken word) and I'd prob put a diff chord progression in the verses to create a bit of musical variation, while being careful not to get too fancy and lose that laid back feel. I'd use those verses to try to tell a cool story(maybe of a journey down south and how a voodoo woman did me wrong) .

Yeah, right now it feels like it's all variations of the chorus. A couple of verses would help give the song more depth(musically & lyrically) and it'd make it feel more complete. Maybe some reading on Swamp folklore could get ur gears turning again.

Btw, I know a little something about the swamp. I live right in the middle of it. I'm in Cajun country in South Louisiana.

Hey, maybe we could swap houses for a while. Afterall, you want someone to take you TO the swamp and I want someone to take me OUT of the damn swamp.  🐊  👀

@T Boog , Thanks for the compliments and Great suggestions. I probably will try another "Swampy" one later. My biggest problem right now is just playing the thing. That was my first attempt and don't know the neck yet , ecpecially in an open tuning. I believe it's my first song not using a standard guitar in a song at all. I'll probably use the lap steel for backing against a standard guitar in the next one.

I have relatives in Lafayette and have spent some time there in vodoo country.  Before he passed my uncle was a chiropractor there and sometimes traded work for learning voodoo practices from some of the older patients. He had some interesting stories.

Oh cool. Yeah, Lafayette is about 2 hrs northwest from me. I'm in Bayou Lafourche/ Bayou Terrebonne area. But I was born in New Iberia which is very close to Lafayette.

And yeah, I feel you on the open tuning thing. However there is something cool about not knowing the neck well in an open tuning. When u can't fall back on standard shapes and theory, u end up using ur ear more and it usually ends ups sounding more unique and inspired. When it comes to creativity, I find sometimes ignorance is bliss.
