I have a feeling that if we continue our wasteful ways, it's going to get worse.

I planted over 20 trees on my half acre, painted the roof white, and planted ferns and native vegetation under the trees. I've re-wilded my half acre. I'm driving a 2010 minivan (need that for my gear) and won't get rid of it until it becomes undependable. Mrs. Notes has a 1978 Jeep that she brought brand new. We don't use the AC and hang clothes out on the line. I buy classic clothes that don't go out of style next year, so I wear them until they wear out. We're not perfect, but we are doing what we can.

Won't you join me?

But the folks across from us have a 1.5 ton family pickup truck that will never haul anything more than a week's groceries. 3 people on the block get their lawns mowed every week, whether they need it or not, (and a lawn is the worst thing you can have). People just consume, consume, consume, and the planet gets hotter and hotter and hotter. And people are having too many kids.

Of course this is good for corporate managers, hedge fund managers, bankers, and the super rich, but it isn't good for the planet.

I don't see it getting better.

Sorry to be so pessimistic.

The bright side is that I 'planned' my birth right. I grew up when anyone halfway decent could gig, and the young folks gigged in singles bars (the DJs hadn't taken that yet). It was during the free-love generation, and before AIDs, so there were plenty of delights for young musicians (and others). I saw the USA when it was on top of the world, and even the German Chancellor drove a Cadillac. Now the world is getting too crowded, the environment is getting nasty, and I'll probably die before the hard times come after our crops fail because of the heat.

Ok, so u've experienced mosquitos. I'll give u that. But have u ever experienced fat Cajun women?!

Can't say that I have. I generally don't like the plus-sized gals. Nothing wrong with them, I prefer them medium-sized with a nice bust and not an oversized butt.

I've learned some things about this particular storm that are so disturbing that I won't say them here...

But, suffice it to say, people need to WAKE THE F*** UP to what's being done to them!!!

In 1970 there were about 3 billion on the planet. Now it's about 9 billion. 'nuff said.

There are 3 kinds of lies, Lies, Damn Lies, and Staistics. Mark Twain.

I'm not saying this is what they are doing now, but they could be skewing the statistics in order to boost the birth rate even more. More customers mean more profits for international corporations.

The earth handled 3 billion pretty well, it isn't handling 9 billion well at all.

Notes casually lobs almost a billion more people onto the planet whilst moaning about it's over population, lol! 😀

People are living for much longer. Increased population is not all about the birth rate.

Anyway, back to the windy stuff......

I had to look up a topographical map of Asheville out of curiosity. There are areas right outside of town with 600' drops in less than 1/4 mile (essentially the edges of the missing lights in the map above). I was talking with someone about the Titan submersible last week and told them the thumb rule is 44psi/100' depth, but that is only static pressure, not including the momentum involved in a run-off situation. Even a wave slap on the open ocean can reach hundreds, if not thousands, of psi from "relatively" neutral ground. Standing water is bad enough, but moving water has such incredible force. My heart goes out to all those impacted by this. The only flood I ever "experienced" was Agnes in 1972, and even though that one was an oddball event, it truly pales in comparison to what Helene did.

My friend in Deland is flying out here on Monday after boarding up his house today.  It appears that the next one, Milton, is expected to be a Cat. 2 when it hits landfall and is aimed directly at my friend's house.  Yay.

I have a brother who lives in Milton, FL. I mentioned to him that one of the next few storms would be called Milton.

We couldn't decide if that was a bad omen or good luck.

I mean, what are the chances of a hurricane hitting a town with the same name? Has to be astronomical.

I could go a step further with that same friend!  Right after he moved to Deland is when Ian hit.  His name?  Ian. 😂
