Lost ability to drag Console to 2nd monitor

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I somehow lost the ability to drag the Console View to a 2nd monitor.  I used to be able to drag it so I could see Console View on one monitor and Track View on the other. Anyone have any idea how to correct this? Switching back and forth between views is no fun after I've been doing it the other way for so long.

Thanks!

Chris

In my experience, it depends on how you have your computer, Windows, and Cakewalk setup and your usual workflow.  I use several customized Workspaces that have various Cakewalk UI elements (windows, panes, etc.) set up to meet different needs.  That way I just select a 2 monitor Workspace and I don't have to fiddle around.

Maybe you have it setup so you just need to undock the Console (or undock the Multidock) and then move it over and resize it on your second monitor.  Without knowing how you have things set up, that would be my first suggestion, sight unseen.

Thanks for the reply! That's just it... I can't find the settings to undock the Multidock! I also don't see settings to enable 2 monitor Workspace .

I used to have this functionality, but I must have somehow disabled it. Until recently, if I was looking at Console View I could click where it says Multidock and drag it to the second monitor, but now it won't allow me to drag it off one monitor to the other.

  • 1 month later...

1.  Right-click your desktop
2. Select Display settings at bottom of list

Do you see 2 screens?  If so, how are they oriented and are you dragging to #2 in that direction?
 - you can change the orientation by dragging #2 around #1
 - if you don't see 2 screens then you haven't set them up

3. Scroll down Multiple displays and check that Extend these displays is selected

Another thing to check is your Windows Display settings with 2 monitors. You may also have switched which monitor is 1 vs 2 as well. Windows will only allow dragging in the direction that connects them. Have you tried dragging a window off both sides of your main monitor (left and right)? Only one of those will work based on how Windows "thinks" they are oriented per the Display Settings.

Thanks for the replies! Turns out I disabled 'Floating' on the Console View but only for some songs which is why I didn't think it was monitor settings. I finally realized there was one icon I was ignoring:

When you click this icon a drop-down appears and you can 'enable' or 'disable' floating. Once I enabled I was able to drag the Console to my 2nd monitor.

Thanks everyone for offering help to a stranger!

Thanks for the update.  It took a little while for me to find how to get that icon, but I did.  And sure enough, in that mode floating windows/panes can only be moved within the main desktop on Monitor 1.

I almost never use that mode, so I explored it a little.  By dragging the main desktop so it spans both my monitors, I was able to move floating windows/panes anywhere around the Cakewalk desktop.

Based on my personal workflow preferences I probably won't be using the "desktop-spread-over-multiple-monitors" mode (not sure what the official name is), but it is good to know how to use it.  So, thanks for taking the time to update the issue.

BTW, you might want to add [SOLVED] to the subject/topic so if others have a similar issue they will know to look at the thread for your solution.

PS: Just to clarify: I use Monitor 1 for the Cakewalk desktop (full screen).

(2) added a PS/Clarification; (1) reworded a sentence in the interest of clarity (I hope)
