There's btoo much stuff , any direct link to those DX presets ?

If i get the sysex for a DX 7 , can i import those to fm8 or fm8 needs a specific format ?

Are my comments a joke to you? ?

I already mentioned that FM8 can import sysex files and I gave a direct link to a huge collection of such files. The collection also contains the original DX7 banks, I believe.

Hmmm, no longer for sale and Wayback Machine doesn't seem to help.

No, ZFM closed up shop a while ago so I bought the everything bundle at the last minute. I Googled free FM8 patches and saw that he'd made 60k so went back to my Gumroad purchases and there it was. I'd jumped over it as I didn't have FM8 at the time. To be honest I think he's just downloaded all the free Dexed files and batch converted them

The "All the web patches" link has them in the folder "Dexed v1_0 (Black Winny)/DXCARTFO".

But you can also download just the factory patches from https://yamahablackboxes.com/collection/yamaha-dx7-synthesizer/patches/

There's another page on this website that has DX7II patches:
https://yamahablackboxes.com/collection/yamaha-dx7ii-fd-synthesizer/patches/
You can import the 'voice' patches (16 banks, 32 patches each) into FM8 but not the 'performance' syx files.

Another source of DX7 Patches:
https://homepages.abdn.ac.uk/d.j.benson/pages/html/dx7.html#patches

4 Brian Eno DX7 patches -  these are just the settings, you'll have to enter them manually and save them)

or download the PDF here:
https://reverb.com/software/presets/reverb/2715-brian-eno-yamaha-dx7-patches

I'm surpised how a same patches sounds different in FM 8 and Arturias one , velocity settings plays a role but not only ....strange ..

I've heard similar complaints with other DX synths.  Apparently not all softsynths import/interpret the syx files the same.
Another thing maybe be because the FM8 was modeled after the DX7II, if the Arturia's DX7 V was 'accurately' modeled after a DX7 that might also account for some of the differences.

Per EvilDragon on GearSpace about DX7 (hardware) vs FM8 sound differences:
"The math is the same, yes. Now, it depends on the calculator which does that math. DX7 had limited CPU power and I would think that samples in it weren't calculated as 32 or 64-bit floats, which is what FM8 is doing. That's why FM8 sounds "cleaner" and not as "grungy" - it has more precise calculations."

I think what i feel is also the enveloppes , and velocity curves

@audioschmaudio  may i ask what' syour choice software wise for that FM / DX vibe ?

I'm not a synth expert, never worked with the hardware synthesizer. I'm just a hobbyist. Dexed, FM8 and Arturia DX7 V all sound very good to me, but I don't have trained ears or professional speakers.

What I can judge though is the user interface and here Arturia is my clear favourite. I like how it looks, the preset browser, the integrated tutorials and how you can access all its presets from within Analog Lab.

Thanks @TheSteven ! I didn't know that it is possible to import sysx files into FM8.

I just have loaded the factory presets (almost unchanged) that I had exported of my DX7II (bought in the 80s and I still have it). Many of the sounds are almost the same as the original, but there are some with pitch changes that sound completely awful in the FM8 (the pitch changes too much). I had noticed the same thing with Dexed some years ago, where I tried the patches the first time.
