Related to this though, is there any forum specific code for embedding YouTube or other hosted content?

Certain links should embed automatically, YouTube being one of them. You’ll know right away if it works, as it will embed in the body of your post immediately upon paste, before you submit.

Ah, neat! The old forum was crazy for that. You'd have to make sure the URL conformed exactly to what the forum software wanted, embed it in BBCODE tags and then go back and make sure the URL didn't get just converted to a clickable link instead of an embed. I'm pretty web/forum savvy and have run a few in my time but that was something else...! ? This is sounding like a real breath of fresh air!

Jesse, when  put a YouTube link it doesn't embed automatically.   I'll put an example here:

Don't use "start at this time". Doesn't behave nicely in the KVR forum either.

Thanks Kurre, I hadn't realised I'd done that!

Actually I've done a couple of tests and it seems if I copy and paste the long URL from the top of the screen on the YT site it doesn't embed, but it does if I use the different (short) link given in the YT editor for the video.

I keep trying to get my Sound Cloud links embedded in  Songs forum posts but it never seems to work. I've had it work only one time and I don't
remember what I did. Seems like everyone else can do it..

So I copy the URL for my song  for example   https://soundcloud/orygun/aliye
into the body of my post and it should embed automatically? (I removed the ".com" from the example URL)

There's a Share button on Sound Cloud which offers an Embed code, which looks like this: (I removed the "<" and ">" at beginning and end)

@bjornpdx  Good question.  Both YouTube and Soundcloud have multiple ways to share links.  Other sites might also.  Then there's the whole long link / short link / tiny url thing.

@bjornpdx , @fogle622 this forum doesn't require specially formatted embed codes or iframes, just paste the link as it would appear in URL form or in your browser's address bar.

In the case of your SoundCloud example, you'd  paste:

 https://soundcloud.com/orygun/aliye

...which I copied directly from the link in the share box:

A couple tips:

- It can sometimes take a few seconds for the link to render. Just wait after pasting the URL for the embed to appear. I've seen embeds not render if you make a bunch of edits between the time you paste it and that it appears.
- If you don't want the embed to appear, just type ctrl-z after it appears to revert to the URL in text form

Thanks Jesse I really appreciate the help.  So I've been copying the URL directly from the browser's address box but you copied the URL from the Sound Cloud Share box. They both look the same  but maybe there's a difference.   Anyway I'll try it next time and I'll take your advice about  waiting  a few seconds for the render.

Oh that shouldn't matter, as long as the URL points to an actual song the player should render.  Let me know if you continue to have issues.
