I would have to look at the Tracktion generators in Waveform

Take a look at them. I originally bought Waveform back in version 8 with the plan to create MIDI patterns in there and export them to Cakewalk. But Cakewalk never really liked how Waveform exported multitrack MIDI files.

Funny enough, I discovered that Reaper was actually brilliant when you imported the same file. It prompted you to split to separate tracks! So you might appreciate the Waveform MIDI export since you mainly use Reaper.

The Waveform generators are not as sophisticated as those in Scaler, or probably something like InstaChord or InstaComposer, but they are quick and fun to mess with.

Note: this is an old video but it's a good getting started overview... :)

I already had Waveform 11 Pro, but decided not to do the full upgrade this year as I do not need all of the Pro features.

Instead I added Waveform 12 Free, plus the MIDI Producer Pack. I got that for $25 (with the discount code: FRIDAY22) and it gives me all of the MIDI tools that Waveform Pro has. https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free-expansions

This year the Waveform Pro 12 features are all available in 3 separate expansion packs [Recording Engineer, MIDI Producer, Synth Pack] that you can add to Waveform  Free to customize it with only the features that you need: https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free

Thanks for pointing this out @abacab

I have just added the MIDI Producer Pack to my Waveform 12 Free.

I am curious about the MIDI capabilities of Waveform, but don't want the outlay of Pro to find out. Also, I did the 90 day demo if Waveform 11 Pro (for Wotja beta testing) but never got around to trying out the MIDI capabilities before it expired ?‍♂️

Thanks! I will need to check WA out when I have finished exploring all that Scaler 2 can do. Those might be a bit redundant with Scaler from what I have seen in demo videos, although probably with some differences.

Just to clarify that the Waveform 12 Free edition includes the MIDI pattern generators, just not the chord track that can be used for multiple MIDI tracks to follow the same chord progression (the Waveform chord track is MIDI only and has no effect on audio, unlike some other DAWs).

The first version of Waveform included pattern generators, but no chord track. That feature was added later and is available now in either the Pro version or the MIDI Producer Pack for the Free version.

Without the chord track, you would need to edit each track individually to stay in the same progression if using more than one MIDI track.

A Q @abacab .. If you have Scaler 2 ( I have this  ) .. why also would you need Waveform, even the free version?

Bought Waveform like 5 years ago, before Scaler 1 was even a dream, when I first started looking for a feature like this! :)

I still like it because the generator is not a plugin, and is integrated into the host. Just drop your instruments onto a few tracks, and go. The generator is already built into each MIDI track.

Why do you have more than one DAW? ?

Cakewalk was my original and most used. I ended up with Reaper BECAUSE CW is not cross platform and band mates are a mix of Mac and Pc.

Reason i got for free along with a keyboard controller, along with the Reason rack VST I dont need to use it, instead i can use its instruments/efx inside CW or Reaper.

FL Studio I bought way way back for stupid money at the time and its free ever since, TBH I rarely use it.

Ableton is interesting .. i got 9 I think in a sale also. I do use it some for ideas. I like its SESSION  VIEW for creating ideas .. CWs closest is the matrix view which I would really like CW to work on and turn into SESSION View, then ableton would be no more for me :D
