garybrun
I have recently acquired a Dangerous D-Box Summing Mixer. What I want to do is record the "Print Track" to a new Stereo Track in a project. So... I am summing my project through the 8 analogue channels of the mixer.. how do I record this? Its got me beat (my head must be in the wrong place). I am using an Apollo X8p and I am mirroring (digital mirror on) but I can't find out how to record that mirror. hope I make sense. Thanks in advance. Gary Edited November 9, 2022 by garybrun
DeeringAmps
Gary, first I’ll admit I only took a quick glance at both pieces of gear. Based on that I would send the AES output from the D-Box into the Apollo and record that. Question; the D-Box sums 8 analog tracks. How do you get the 8 tracks in? I don’t see 8 analog inputs. They come in digital? Then the D-Box does the D/A A/D ? t
garybrun
@DeeringAmps Thanks for taking the time to look... appreciated. The .pdf explains the setup. I have everything working fine except the print track. I have never recorded a print track even without the d-box before. The summing works fine. The analogue and daw part works fine. Its just recording the sum I cant work out. I must have some routing wrong somewhere. The sums should be mirrored to the spidif.. so I thought I should make the input on aux track as spidif.. not managed to sort this bit out yet. hooking-up-d-box-with-ua-apollo.pdf
garybrun
The problem is with the spdif. I can monitor the summing and the DAW and Analogue.. but can not record the feeds back into cakewalk. Can anyone explain how to record your master back into cakewalk on a track? Sheens
Hey Gary, You can connect the L + R outputs (main or summing depending on which Dangerous box you have) to Apollo's Line Inputs ( 1 or 2 fe). In Cakewalk (I guess) add a new track (or bus ?) and select the 2 Apollo Inputs as inputs, and Output them to your Apollo 'master'/'end' bus (or any bus you like). (guess you have a working routing to the Dangerous Box already, you might need to enable the Dangerous outputs/Apollo inputs in Cakewalk if ye haven't already....under Preferences/Devices/Input). good luck Edited November 10, 2022 by Sheens
garybrun
@Sheens Thanks for the reply. I believe there is something wrong as I have tried all options. tried adding tracks and busses etc. Im going to reset the apollo as I know I have everything working with the D Bus.. the spdif is on mirror... but is greyes out in the Apollo io matrix. I run an x8p and an apollo twin. Going to try and switch of the apollo twin and see if its that...
Sheens
normally you'll be ok if all inputs/outputs look ok in Cakewalk and your computer (ASIO Panel) -> see pics below please. (Preferences/Audio/Devices) AND (Preferences/Audio/Driver Settings/ASIO PANEL)
garybrun
All my inputs and outputs are ticked and showing. Without using summing how would you record your master bus to a track in cakewalk in Realtime? I am missing something... (Forget using a d-box) what would be the process for that? I'm looking at the manuals and it looks like you use the D-Box "Summing Out" into the Apollo In (they suggest using 7 & 8 ) Basically just what Sheens suggested... 3 hours ago, garybrun said: Without using summing how would you record your master bus to a track in cakewalk in Realtime? I guess you create an Aux track that is feed from a send on the Master Buss. t Edited November 11, 2022 by DeeringAmps
garybrun
OK... my mistake was not creating an AUX track.. I created a track instead!!! ? Now I have worked that out and can record my master bus. Just have to work out now how to get the spidif working on an input. It works on an output though as its sending the signal to my D Box via mirror to the DAW input on the D Box. I need the spdif to record the sum. mmm. garybrun
Correction.. I think maybe the output for the dbox sum is not working. Will need some electronic checks for that.

That correct. I am sending the SUM Output to analogue 7 + 8. I do not see any signal in the UAD Control Panel for imputs 7 + 8. Need to do a little more research. I hope the sum output of the box is not damaged. Will also check to see if I can get signal into Apollo 7+8 via another feed.
