Byron Dickens Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) I wanted to try a track using nothing but Voltage Modular. I came up with the arpeggiator pattern and started messing around with this progression. Once I started putting in the drum part, the rhythm kinda forced itself on me and then the rest was obvious. At this point, I couldn't resist adding Bazouki but I ran it through an amp and effects The title comes from Maqsum, the name of the Middle -Eastern rhythm I used. I based the melody on a folk song called Ah ya Zein. Edited August 7, 2022 by bdickens
Wookiee Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 What is that growl in opening bars, it sounds like a square wave with the filter wide open and quite possibly being heavily over driven? Not sure I am hearing a sequence as such?
Byron Dickens Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 Nasty dirty, filthy, isn't it? It is actually just the default saw from oscillator 1 and pulse from osc 2 from the ARP module with some ring modulation. The arpeggiator pattern doesn't start until the tune kicks in and its just an octave pattern. 1
DeeringAmps Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 A bit on the long side, but if the goal is to keep the dance floor moving; I get it. Kind of a Rave thing? t
Byron Dickens Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 Thanks for the listens @jwnicholson78The link in the OP does work. Try again. @DeeringAmps I confess to near total ignorance of rave music. I had in mind a hybrid of some kind of electronic space music and Arabic pop/ folk. 1
Xoo Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Reminds me of this Which apart from making me feel very old as I was at the gig, is no bad thing in my book at all.
Old Joad Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Cool, I really like this. the snare sounds like you're hitting a track can lid?
Hidden Symmetry Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 enjoyed the blend of Arabic & electronic styles on this track.
