MasterDesk True Peak Crashes

Clicking on several knobs seem to crash Cakewalk, but not other DAWS.

Anyone else having problems?

No but the Cakewalk team does appreciate it if you submit a crash dump report so they can fix it.

I was having this same issue with Masterdesk and any brainworks plugins, so I uninstall the VST3 version and install VST2..  issue resolved..

My masterdesk and classic work with vst3 just not the true peak. I will try vst2

I've had similar issues with their plugins and see  most if not all of the brainworx content was updated a few days ago.

Update, tried the latest version of masterdesk vst3 and it crashes everything to the desktop everytime. same with bx_rooMS. 

just clickin anywhere on the UI seems to do it. 

tried a couple of non-bx plugs from PA and they seem to be ok.

bx_masterdesk v1.6.2.0 (not True Peak) vst2/vst3 not crashing Cakewalk 2022.06 here. And I even tweaked every knob and button in the GUI.

Sorry if that's not much help.

Windows 10 Pro 21H2, patched up through May 2022.

I just tested the bx_rooMS VST3 plug-in and CbB crashed here, too, while clicking on the UI.

As I said if you want this fixed submit a crash report to Cakewalk. The developers don’t always see posts here.

The response from PA (today) is the basic uninstall/reinstall.

No improvement. Further testing confirms the issue with the same two bx_plugins. Noting:

• clicking anywhere on the UI does nothing, none of the controls respond, but it appears a field for kybd entry gets focus
• deleting it from the FX bin promptly crashes CW to the desktop
• the problem VSTs have similar UI designs (Brainworx)
• bx_plugins with "non_Brainworx" UIs (i.e. bx_townhouse, bx_n, etc.) do not seem to have this problem
• only using vst3 here
• they all work as expected in S1
• installed an earlier version of bx_rooMS and that worked. did not have others to try.

I do not have either bx_MasterDesk True Peak or bx_rooMS but have no problems with other bx plug-ins including bx_MasterDesk.

If you are not getting error messages in CbB, try setting ExceptionHandlingSeverity to 7 in Preferences > File > Initialization File

only noted on bx_masterdesks and bx_rooms. these are hardly staples, so not a problem per se.

PA had UI problems with a previous releases of Brainworx branded plugins (i.e. inverted meters on the bx_console_n) . 

ExceptionHandlingSeverity = 7 is/has been the default/standard for this system.

This may be the problem.

Dial it back to 1 (the default).

I only set it to 7 when troubleshooting.

@scook  well that was a mighty keen observation. setting ExceptionHandlingSeverity = 1 cleared up the issue with at least one of the problem vst3s, assume it will hold for the other. yet another dimension to the complexity of performance optimization.

ExceptionHandlingSeverity =1 and 7 don’t help.  The gui is. It responsive or it will crash. I am in the middle of another problem report. I will file this one soon.

@Max Arwood  fwiw, just tried the demo for MasterDesk True Peak and all seemed to work well enough for the vst3 here. ExceptionHandlingSeverity =1
