No worries there...I couldn't get hired when I was in my 50's...and have multiple degrees and Certifications...

Sometimes having multiple degrees and certifications qualifies people for being Over Qualified!!  It's probably a corollary of The Peter Principal: Some people don't want to hire other people who they think might know more than they do.  ?

Decades ago I learned never to score 100% on a civil service clerical worker test. Best to get at least two wrong on purpose!   ?  ?  ?

At one point I spent 13 months creating over 130 applications (all of them now take a LOT of time to create since they are all online and most include two-hour, 200 question psychological tests!).  Out of all those apps (of which I was either qualified or way over-qualified for), I had three in-person interviews.  One had three levels of interviews and the first two were very positive with the interviewer wishing I could start immediately; then I got a short email saying that they weren't going to continue to the third interview - no reason given.  The second one I was told that they would have loved to hire me, but that I would just find a better job in two weeks and leave (right, did I mention 13 months of searching?).   The third one was for just to stock shelves in the middle of the night at a Home Depot (because I like to eat and keep a roof over my head).  The interviewer said I should be going for his boss' position.  I joked "Well, is it available?" to which he laughed and said "No."  Then he tells me "off the record" of course, that the position they're hiring for is meant for someone "darker" than me.   I'm sure that's legal to imply, ya? ?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had actually gone out in suit and tie with a bunch of printed resumes which had generated a lot of interest, but all the jobs required those annoying online applications.  While it's illegal to ask your age, they all required you to enter when you graduated from high school.  Then the software can discriminate for the companies.  I went back to a few places and they all wondered why I hadn't applied since they had never received my application...

It's been a heck of a time doing it for the past 5...no more...show me da money!

Yep, I grabbed it at 62 myself. Didn't trust the .gov to manage my contributions any longer than required! :)

Congratulations, you're now officially a socialist!

That's actually a misconception! We made taxable contributions to the SSA trust fund for our entire working lives. So it's actually supposed to be a retirement fund payout, and not a government free money giveaway.

Sorry to veer off-topic, but if in doubt, PM me and I will share the facts. End of discussion here... :)

I applied at Target...had to go through FIVE INTERVIEWS...to work at TARGET, and still didn't
get the job...

I actually was in grocery store to shop in suburb 30 miles away from home and saw an old coworker still working for grocery store now managing deli. The buzzer goes off for the bakery and no one is there. Deli manager telsl me do you want to get that out of the oven. I did and the store manager came yelling. Deli manager  ask me to do it as I at one time managed the bakery. Mind you this was 28 years ago but I could do it in my sleep. Just thinking if I had to do it for a couple years to survive I probably wouldn't get hired because I'm over qualified ?

I was obviously kidding, but you're incorrect in stating it's a misconception. Social Security and Medicare are entitlement programs AKA socialist programs that are administered by the government. I was a straight A college student for my political ideology courses. I'm pretty knowledgeable on simple areas like this one. Government entitlement programs are technically socialist programs, that is why the GOP has, for virtually my entire life pushed for the phase out of entitlement programs, the two largest being Social Security and Medicare and it's why Medicare is currently only 3 years away from insolvency, because it's paying out 3x what it takes in and the GOP sees these as a golden opportunity to phase it out AKA entitlement reform.  I actually declined being a commentator for a very popular news network partially because they miseducate their audience on this -- on what entitlements are -- so that guests can talk about entitlement reform and their audience thinks they're talking about welfare. They're not. Oh well, economics lesson over.

A government program that provides entitlements is a socialist program. That is how socialist programs work. In the simplest terms, they do things that could be done by private business and the conservative view is that such programs should not exist, the liberal view is that they should. Personally, I'm an independent, but I have a great love of education and facts.
