Musicians19+ToPlayComedyRock
And then work our way up in difficulty? I may have tried Cakewalk a few times over the years, but it wasn't for me. Edited December 9, 2021 by Musicians19+ToPlayComedyRock
Kalle Rantaaho
I doubt there's any one DAW that includes different versions from rookie-level to pro? There used to be three different versions of Cakewalk/SONAR, but the basic recording techniques and procedures were exactly the same in all of them. In my opinion the basics of recording and using VSTs are still practically the same in all DAWs. Then again, there are audio editors, like Audacity, that are quite straightforward to use, but are actually not meant for recording and real studio tasks.
Musicians19+ToPlayComedyRock
If I download Cakewalk is it free? Are you familiar with Soundtrap? I appreciate your help!

Byron Dickens
Only disagreement I have is that if you don't have an audio interface that supports ASIO, you need to get one. Stay away from ASIO4ALL. It tends to be problematic.

Thanks
Jeremy Oakes
I think you need to do some research here. Google DAW and audio device / audio interface and how to use them. Decide on the type of music you want to make and with what. Soundtrap is not a DAW. Cakewalk is. To learn how to use Cakewalk takes time, there is a learning curve, patience is a virtue, (as with every DAW). J
scook
I have not used Soundtrap but the description at the Microsoft store Quote Make music online. Record instruments, vocals and use loops. Collaborate and create music with friends from anywhere. sounds more like BandLab and Cakewalk by BandLab.
Jack Cat
I found this series in the Tutorials forum, This seems to cover everything starting from Audio and Midi. I watched most of the first 5 and I thought they were easy to follow . Looks like John, the author, is still working on a them.

Thanks Did you even watch the video? An audio interface is a piece of hardware. It is where sound goes into and out of the computer. Jeremy Murray-Wakefield
Probably worth noting that you can customise Cakewalk (via Workspaces) to hide the advanced views that you are not interested in using at the beginning.

Noel Borthwick
Like Jeremy mentioned I recommend starting with the "Basic" workspace that looks like this. This has the minimal set of tools you would need in a DAW. As you need more you can switch the workspace to advanced or another preset.
