How to make downloaded instruments available in Cakewalk?

Recommended Posts

Hi! Sorry for a noob question, I feel very stupid right now. I've downloaded some instruments from the Internet and want to make them available in Cakewalk to replace built-in Windows drums, bass, etc.

I've been trying to do this for a couple of days now and I can't find any tutorial on how to do this. Can someone please point me to some video or tutorial?

Thank you and sorry if I posted this in a wrong section

You want to decide on a directory where your plugin dll's live, and copy your plugins into that directory.

The most common ones are:

64 bit:
C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins

32 bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VSTPlugins

If you're using very old 32 bit plugins, I'd recommend putting them somewhere else to avoid having to run as admin, e.g.:

C:\32BitVST\

Next, make sure these paths are in your VST Scan Paths, then click the Scan button:

Paths should be unique. In the image below, c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\cakewalk sound center is redundant and should be removed. The plug-ins in that path get scanned as a result of c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins being in the scan path.
