Yeah he said he's got a new suite coming this year. I bought the suite when it was on sale, and I haven't tried my Strat w/ them yet, but my baritone is very picky w/ sims and doesn't work well w/ that suite.

Word, where da suite at?

Hey David, is there a quick way to tell if any given plugin needs PDC? Like, with guitar pedal vsts e.g. you can "play through" them same as w/ an amp sim and only experience the Normal "playable" latency you would in such cases. But if you try playing in real time through some other plugs you'll get a very noticeable delay. I believe I had that problem when trying to play my guitar through Sound Toys' Alter Boy when trying to use it as an octave pedal w/ my amp sim and there was way too much latency of which nothing could be done about, likely because of PDC. So RevSpider, I believe David is asking if you have such a plugin in your recording chain that you may be recording through in real time like you would w/ an amp sim, where during recording your signal is having to pass through this plugin before getting recorded, and as you listen while recording you hear and experience this latency as a delay/echo.

Should be noted too that w/ Dark KZ you can't save custom presets. I suppose you can create a daw preset, but the sounds in Dark KZ are just "load and play" and there's no way to save custom sounds if you should edit a sound, not that there's much tweakability anyway.

Recently I decided to sit down w/ Reaktor after disregarding it for so long, and I didn't know that you can make effects units w/ it too that you can use on a track etc like any other vst effect. I haven't checked any of them out yet but I've downloaded some well regarded third party Reaktor effects units to try later. I *never* hear of anyone using Reaktor effects outside of a synth ensemble context, though I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were more than decent. Anyone use these?

Even more tips, thanks guys. I've decided that even after I get my Novation SL61 MKIII, which hooks up via USB (unlike the Korg Z1), I'm gonna leave the Z1 on the legacy midi port from now on because why not have two controllers then if it's gonna work, which it still is. And my woman, she's like "Well since the Z1 is working to control midi now do you really need to spend $700 on that Novation?" "Absolutely and I've already thought this through, it's *gonna* happen plus I expect to keep that Novation for the rest of my life, just like you." That was easy. So thanks for the additional tips for if the connection breaks down again. It's weird, I feel like I've been through this before, where something like this wasn't working right and somehow opening another program simultaneously jogs it into working for no apparent reason. It's probably happened to all of us. And speaking of plugging usb devices in the same port every time, that's great advice all the time - yeah the Korg NanoKONTROL2 and Nanopad2 that I sold, those were a nightmare for me if you should unplug one or both and forget which port you initially had them in. Each time you plugged them into a different port Windows would log it as a new midi device or whatever and quickly max out it's device limit so the Nanos wouldn't work and you had to go into the Korg utility thing and delete all the stupid ports it logged and then start over by plugging the Nanos back in *and leaving them there* and deal w/ their driver again. Probably other devices behave like this too actually though I never had that problem w/ the M-Audio Oxygen which I would often move to other USB ports so idk.

Can you replicate this bug (with BIAS) ?
Christian Jones replied to parboo12's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It hijacks it even from Windows? Man that's scandalous, and anyway thanks Noel and Jon for sorting that out as I suspected the fix would have to come from Positive Grid and for some reason I initially erroneously thought Jon Sasor worked for Positive Grid lol. -

Well, since you're able to consistently reproduce it in the way that you've described, perhaps issuing a fix for that may also fix the way that I'm able to additionally reproduce it.. -

I've had this problem for over a 1.5 years and whether BIAS is saved in the track template or if it's added to the track template after the fact, I don't believe it matters and in any case I have since abandoned BIAS because of it. Otherwise *every single time* you go to lay down a track you have to remember that the first one will probably vanish and if you forget that rediculous step and you happen to lay down an amazing performance only to watch it vanish.. my confidence in BIAS has done the same. -

Actually, I kind of remember your screen name iirc you were you probably the one I recall posting about this on the old cakewalk forum. -

Yeah I use BIAS FX saved as a track template in CbB and I've had this problem too where when recording an audio track the first one will often just vanish after you hit stop - even though during the actual recording the waveform was being drawn. And yeah, recording a second time *may* be ok. There was a point when at first the track vanishing act was intermittent, but then it would happen every single time the first time recording and iirc I think it was messing with the buffer that caused it to go back to intermittent. I've posted about this before, and felt like I had tracked it down to BIAS FX as the culprit when saved in a track template, and I'm pretty sure at least one other person posted about this same issue too way back. And it *did* seem to have specifically to do with using saved templates that had BIAS FX loaded in them as opposed to manually loading BIAS FX each time though I haven't verified that 100%. I don't believe it's ever been resolved. -
Uninstalling/Re-installing Cakewalk
Christian Jones replied to Tony p's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hey Tony, I asked a similar question recently and you can view that thread and the advice I got here: If your projects are backed up then basically you're good to go with the uninstall/reinstall and no, don't uninstall whatever plugs you have installed; they'll re-associate themselves with Cakewalk upon reinstallation and pretty much all your CbB settings will be intact too - all this was the case for me anyway for my recent uninstall/reinstall of CbB. -
So the Z1 is working as a MIDI controller in CbB now for no reason. I didn't change a single thing or do anything differently. All I *did* do near as I can tell is install Cantable Lite the other day and found the Z1 worked w/ it right away. And last night I had Cantable open w/ Kontakt and then I just wanted to see something unrelated in CbB real quick so I opened my previous CbB test session w/ Cantable still open and then I just happened to hit some keys on the Z1 and saw that it was triggering both Cantable and CbB. So I closed Cantable and CbB continued to work w/ the Z1 as the controller and now it works consistently w/ CbB lol. The end. ?

You should be able to see my MIDI Preferences images at this link https://imgur.com/a/mNgTnKa Even though the CbB MIDI indicator is flashing, and even though when I depress the keys on the Z1 the corresponding keys on the CbB piano roll also depress, when I arm the track to record it does not print any data when inputting from the Z1 so I'm not able to record anything that way.

I installed Cantaible Lite to see if I could trigger vsts through it and the Z1 worked with it right away when I loaded Kontakt into it. So yeah it must be an interface driver/CbB interaction thing going on. The weird thing now--and I don't recall if this was always the case--but w/ everything set up right in CbB for the Z1 to be able to work, I see that when pressing keys on the Z1 the corresponding key(s) on the midi track's Piano Roll depress too but there's no sound. But when I click on those same keys on that piano roll then I hear sound from the Kontakt instrument lol. The MIDI track input is set to Ch.1 of the RME MIDI interface (hdsp midi), Z1 on ch.1, and that track's output is set to Kontakt (or whichever vst I'm trying to trigger). The corresponding audio track's input is set to Kontakt st. stereo as per usual (unless I chose something else) and the output set to Master. That's how it's always set up w/ any controller I've used and it's always worked. Clicking on the keys in the Piano Roll and on Kontakt's keyboard and you get sound; just not from the Z1, though like I said when pressing the Z1 keys the corresponding keys on the Piano Roll depress too, but there's no sound. CbB is pranking my @** is what it is lol but really I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. My Novation will be here in a few weeks, and I have some vsts that don't work in standalone that I wanted to vet the presets of in the meantime so I can just use Cantiable for now since the Z1 work there, no big deal. I'll post an image link of my midi preferences, but really I doubt it's user error at this point.

Quick update and thanks to everyone who indulged in my nightmare. So today I installed midiox per abacab and confirmed that the Z1 is in fact functioning properly in sending MIDI data as I got good on/off response from the keys, pitch/mod wheels and X/Y pad responses. I also confirmed in midiox that occasionally the pitch wheel was a tad slow at returning to zero when pitching down (though not audible) and nudging the pitch wheel lightly "snapped" it to zero, so that would explain the trailing midi data that the CbB midi indicator was sometimes seeing when moving the pitch wheel down and after I had let go of it. So as all that looked good I went ahead and uninstalled/reinstalled both my RME audio driver which also carries the MIDI interface, and CbB, rebooted etc. Went into CbB and selected all the proper settings and verified that the CbB midi indicator was in fact receiving proper signal from the Z1 aaaaand.... it's still not working. So I cackled madly and threw a metal spoon at the window Lol I know you were hoping for a happy ending after that buildup but I'm telling you, the Z1, under no circumstance, is willing to be a MIDI controller inside of CbB. It's just stone cold not gonna happen. Not through the RME interface, not through the MIDI Sport. Probaly no other interface on the planet either for that matter. It's cool though, I got something proper coming soon. And if nothing else I got a clean reinstall of CbB on my new Windows 10. It's not a settings issue--can't be--not in CbB or the Z1. This is not a sad ending of a movie; it's one of those where you're like, "WHAAAT...?"

No problem, been seeking (and finding) a lot of help here lately so trying to give back where/when I can. I should say for anyone who does get this problem and if for some reason you can't get Kontakt to unfreeze after trying to uncheck those selections, you can open Kontakt in standalone and uncheck them there, as for me Kontakt works fine in standalone and you can probably just get this fix done quicker that way anyway.

Thought I'd post the fix here real quick in case that link ever dies: "Try this: - Open Kontakt inside [your daw] - Make the 'Browse' sidebar visible - Click the 'Files' tab in the browser sidebar - Click the 'View' dropdown menu in the Files tab - Uncheck (turn off) "show network drives" - Uncheck (turn off) "show removable drives" - Uncheck (turn off) "show foreign formats" - Close Kontakt, restart [your daw] + Kontakt"
