  1. I'm talking about deriving a track send which is pre the FX. This is sadly not available in Cakewalk at the moment.
  2. Anyone from the Cakewalk team able to comment on this request please?
  3. Is there any way to tell Cakewalk to include Control Group allocations when duplicating tracks? I have a number of tracks sends whose level settings are always grouped, so I don't want to have to do this every time I duplicate a track.
  4. Does anyone know if it's possible to save control group allocations with track templates? I want a track template which has a bunch of sends with linked send levels. So I allocate the send levels to a group and then save the track template. But when I load the track template, the linking between the send levels has been lost and I have to remake the control group each time I load the template. Any ideas?
  5. Well let's hope I get a response from the development team about getting pre FX sends available in a future release.
  6. There are times when you want to create a track send which is completely clean, which means before the FX in the signal chain. Looks to be impossible at the moment as the Pre Fader option is still post FX. I know there are possible work arounds by cloning tracks etc but these are definitely not user friendly. I also know that other folks have made this request before. Could we get an idea from the development team if this is a big deal to do? Regards Robert
  7. I have a need to use some external audio insert sends without an audio port being allocated to the return path. I know this is similar to a track 'Send' but the external insert can be placed before any other FXs (normal 'Sends' are after all FX) which is important in this particular application. There is no problem setting up an external insert send only, allocated to an audio output port, but here is the problem: Even though the external insert send meter shows audio being sent, there is no audio at the actual audio port on my audio interface. Only if I allocate a return port, does the send port actually get fed audio (even though the insert send meter is showing audio!) Any idea if this is expected behaviour or a bug? Thanks Robert
  8. Finally I found an old thread which details the bug which is causing the problem. Sometimes the currently selected 'soft synth' track gets into a state where it is impossible to turn off the input echo button. Once this happens, it doesn't matter whether you select another track. The track which gets stuck, stays stuck. Reloading the instrument on the 'stuck' track is the only way to get the soft synth output to work again. The solution mentioned in the old thread is to go to Preferences/MIDI/Playback and Recording and untick the 'Always Echo Current MIDI Track' box. This fixes the issue. So it is an old bug which has never been fixed. The old thread is http://forum.cakewalk.com/Input-Echo-button-stays-on-m3565851.aspx What's the best way to bring this to the development team's attention?
  9. Okay I reviewed the drum track which failed using the Event List View. 100% note events. Anything else I can check or is there a diagnostic dump I could send to Bandlab next time it fails?
  10. I have started to use soft synths for the first time in Cakewalk. Mostly Session Drummer 3. I have no problem inserting an instance of Session Drummer 3 and loading a drum program. I hit a drum and I can hear the audio output. I can record MIDI sequences and play them back. However, I have found that at random times during the session, my Session Drummer output (whether it is being replayed from recorded MIDI or played 'live') suddenly loses its audio out. I can see that the drum program is still loaded and if e.g. I hit the bass drum, then I see the drum bring hit ... but no audio output! The only solution is to reload the drum program which brings back the audio but of course I lose all my settings. I have had the same problem with other soft synths so it is not particular to Session Drummer 3. Does anyone know if this is a know issue and whether there is a way to avoid this happening?
  11. I know you can use keyboard shortcuts to moving between markers but is there any way to use keyboard shortcuts to move the Now Time to either the punch in or punch out time. markers?
  12. Okay thanks; so I guess I am looking for a different solution to move the now time back by an amount of absolute time.
  13. I'm not sure what 'musical time' means. Is there any way to convert ticks to seconds?
  14. Do you know if it's possible to modify the CAL script to move the Now Time back by 10 seconds rather than by ticks?
  15. I have found an issue with Cakewalk losing all external insert audio port allocations in a project. I create a project and allocate audio port allocations for those inserts. Then I save my project. So here is the problem: If I ever accidentally open that project with my audio interfaces not powered up OR if Cakewalk does not recognise one or more of my audio interfaces, then all of the audio port allocations to my external inserts are lost and cannot be recovered. The external inserts all show 'none' for the send and returns. This only happens with external inserts. Audio Port allocations to track inputs and bus outputs are never lost. Has anyone else had this issue and is Cakewalk aware of the problem? Regards Robert
  16. When you arm a track for record and you haven't yet selected the recording source, Cakewalk automatically choses the first input source available. Is there any way to either:- 1. Change the default recording source? 2. Stop the source being automatically selected?
  17. Hi Alexey I think you maybe misunderstood. Only my mixer routing and level control will be controlled from Cakewalk. (So I will not control EQ or Comp from Cakewalk). In terms of 'dynamic' parameters, that means 24 tracks plus 8 buses, each with: Gain, Pan, Level (so 96 in total) in addition, what I call more 'static' parameters: Track to Bus Routing, Solo, Cut, Rec arm, Interleave, Source routing (maybe around 600 in total)
  18. Hi both Thanks for exploring this topic so thoroughly. I just wanted to clarify a few points re my intended use of the Cakewalk and AZ Controllers. Remote control of parameters in my analogue mixer is only for routing and level/pan control. All the other analogue processing (e.g. EQ and Compression) is manually controlled using inserts and outboard gear As routing is primarily a session set up function, this leaves just level control which will happen 'in real time'. In terms of processing overheads within Cakewalk, there will be no software plug-ins being used. The primary reason I wanted to reduce the Cakewalk Controller Refresh Time below 25ms was for increased precision and time accuracy of fast crossfades between takes. As one example:- I recently mixed a song with four takes of a technically very difficult piano piece. I had to use fast crossfades to combine the best of the four performances. In the Cakewalk digital domain this is reasonably easy to achieve. In the future, when I am recording both to Cakewalk and to my 24 Track analogue tape machine, I will do all the mixdown rehearsal in Cakewalk and then do the final mixdown from the tape machine which is locked to Cakewalk using SMPTE (striped on to Track 24). Cakewalk will control my audio mixer so that all the rehearsed level control can be implemented in the analogue domain. If I was to use inter/extrapolated data processing within my audio mixer to gain more control precision, then I introduce another (albeit small) delay in the control chain between Cakewalk and my target VCAs. I would prefer not to do this. My VCA gain control elements have an integration time of around 7ms which takes care of zipper noise issues quite successfully. So I would like to be able to experiment with Cakewalk Controller Refresh times below 25ms if this is possible to implement. Regards Robert
  19. Hi Mark Thanks for checking this out. I am using AZ Controller to configure and output the MIDI messages. Does that count as 'outside of Cakewalk'? If 'yes' then please let me know what would be required to get the 10ms refresh operational. Best regards Robert
  20. Amon, in the Bandlab support team, suggested I post this topic to reach out to the development team. I have a fairly unusual application which needs a fast Controller Refresh Frequency, preferably 10ms. This allows me to record into Cakewalk and simultaneously to an external analogue recording system, all sync'd and controlled from Cakewalk. The 2020.08 release allowed the minimum Refresh Frequency to be reduced from 50ms to 25ms which was a really useful step. At that time I was told that reducing the Refresh Frequency down to 10ms would be possible but via the Cakewalk.ini. I have not been able to get this working. Although the Cakewalk.ini can be edited to 10ms and displays as 10ms in Preferences\Control Surfaces, the actual refresh frequency is still operating at 25ms. I have tested this very carefully, It would be great if the development team could have a look to see what is blocking the 10ms setting from operating and hopefully remove the blockage. I have a whole dialogue of how I test the refresh frequency which Amon has in an email. Happy to reproduce here if it would help. Regards Robert
  21. Excuse me pinging this post again. Is Mark McLeod or anyone from the Bandlab development team able to help? Regards Robert
  22. I'm trying to implement control of the bus input pan using the excellent AZ Controller. Alexey thinks that this control is missing from the Cakewalk Control Surface API. Could I ask Mark McLeod if he could confirm if the bus input pan control is missing from the API and if so, could it be added please. Many thanks Robert
