  1. It's an art for sure, Hidden Symmetry gets such great mixes where everything sounds so distinct and clear, I struggle with it every time.

    Sounds great!
  3. The guitars seem a little dull, kind of like a thin blanket over them, they need a little air.
  4. That's a really good sounding song, you guys nailed it. I do think there's too much delay on it though, it's kind of distracting from an otherwise great track.

    Take the Knife

Cool song! Lot's interesting details in there. Great Vocals.
  6. I'm hearing some Leon Russell. Great playing!
  7. I really like your song and the arrangement is pretty good. The strings and piano are great. I agree that the bass is too soft. I think it would sound nice if you doubled the vocal on the chorus (not a harmony, just double it) and pan one to one side a little to give it extra fullness. I think some call and return backup vocals would sound nice there too. Good job on this for sure.
  8. Never had any luck with batch quantizing, I do it with audio transients. Change track clips to transient, zoom in, if you click on the track you can bring up the audio snap window - I like to slide the threshold on the right to about 75% that cuts down on the number of markers generated. Then you can shrink or stretch you notes as needed. This takes some trial and error and it can be over done where it distorts the sounds. I frequently move the markers to more precisely manipulate the segment. I always align the bass with the drums, it's amazing how much tighter the track sounds after that. Rhythm guitar, you have to be conservative because it can make for weird sounds. Pretty time consuming but I find it fun.
  9. This computer is only about a year old so not going to get a new one. I think I will continue to stall on the update. When I switched from my old computer to this one it was about a week of computer hell trying to get cakewalk with all the plugins working right again.
  10. Is the consensus that windows 11 upgrade is pretty safe with cakewalk? I feel tempted to do it but also afraid of the consequences. Anyone still have unresolved issues?
  11. Good song but it sounds like there are some timing issues. I think if you can tighten it up and maybe bring up the bass a bit, it would sounds much better. I rely on Cakewalk to fix my sloppy playing all the time, got to love digital editing!

Very nice, enjoyed that. Great guitar tone. Recording sounds beautiful.

    Flute and Harp

You nailed it. They have music like this where I work (a hospital) on a TV channel that shows a continuous running stream.

    Layin' it Down

Thanks Wookie! Thanks for listening, I think I needed the extra distortion to fill in the gaps since I'm a slow hand. Thanks for commenting Tom! Appreciate it man.

    Layin' it Down

Thanks Kevin! The bass is pretty simple, cheap fretless jazz into free Amplitube SVX 500 basic plugin. I'm not a bass player but I must say I have enjoyed playing the fretless, it's my favorite. It does have fret markers otherwise it would really confuse me. I agree it is a fairly basic arrangement, it turned out that the chord changes in the song where really difficult for me to play to (love jazz but don't really understand it), I almost trashed the whole thing out of frustration. So that's the reason it's pretty brief. Thanks for commenting.
  16. Love the guitar layers, I would never be able to come up with that, they compliment each other nicely. The distorted and clean sounds going back and forth is perfect. Great job, oh and the vocals are very nice too.

    BIG TIME

Very professional vocals and guitar work. My only critique is the vocals are too loud, otherwise great.

Your dad must be a hip dude, nothing like what I heard in the car LOL. Man who remembers Monkey Wards, love it. Very cool tune, I have always liked the sound of a sax and guitar together. I just ordered me a cheap sax to try and get back into it (we'll see) I played some back in the 90's.

    Layin' it Down

Thanks David, I use a modded 65 dollar ebay strat straight into the focusrite. Using BiasFx2 plugin which includes a distortion box, auto wah, chorus, 69 Plexi amp then delay and reverb boxes. The BiasFX is nice in that it includes a lot of classic Fx boxes. These plugins make it so easy to get decent sounds quick. I have some really nice home built tube amps and Fx but I would be spending all day trying to capture a good tone.

    Layin' it Down

Thanks a lot Hidden Symmetry, Pavlovs Cat and Jack! I just realized the congas cut short on the end so I fixed that, can't believe I didn't notice.
  21. Very nice song, you're a good song writer. When the solo guitar comes in there's some percussive sounds that are distracting. I would use an EQ like MEqualizer where you can sweep the curve around while you listen, I always use it to find the sweet spot with an acoustic. Sometimes a graphic EQ is better when it's a very narrow specific frequency that needs cutting.

    Natural High

I like the groove, very reminiscent of the Talking Heads to me.
