Correction. Hyperbaric. Pesky autocorrect.

An update on Ruby. Last night the vet called us close to Midnight to say that the operation was successful and Ruby was awake. He performed keyhole surgery on her spine where a disc had ruptured and deposited material and blood into the spinal cavity. We will have to wait 2-3 days to see if she will recover use of her back legs or not, but the vet is confident she will make a good recovery. At the very least, the damaged area has been cleaned which will prevent further damage and potential full paralysis. Today Ruby will be treated to a session in a Hyperbaric chamber. The clinic recommended this to speed up recovery. Hopefully, if all goes well, we will get to bring her home this week. I wish to thank everyone who has reached out and helped us during this stressful moment. We've been truly humbled by the support and we wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you. ? We know that this is only the beginning of a longer process to recovery, but the relief we feel at having her make it through the operation itself is immense. I'll keep everyone updated

I'm sorry you lost your cat. I lost many a cat growing up. It's always a heartbreak. Having to make the decision to save a pet is heartbreaking. ? Above all because they (unlike us humans) are innocent souls.
-
Sorry to hear that. I lost a dog to cancer when I was a kid. Had it all around his heart.

The vet tried to operate this evening but our dog started to develop a heart problem, so the operation is being put on hold until tomorrow morning when the cardiac vet will be able to assist. Just hoping that she can be operated at this point. If not, we will need to look into living with a paralyzed dog. It's been a very long long day.

Thanks for listening Larry. Each to their own, I guess. ? The track has already been released on streaming and been doing the rounds on internet radio, so I won't be making any more changes. But I appreciate the input. ?

Thanks Mark, The percussion is a combination of knee slapping, string slapping and some light drumming. I also use some of these tracks to trigger the drum replacement in Sonar. I try to keep it subtle, and to blend the sounds. Thanks for the comment on the vocals. Really appreciate it.

Good feeling, isn't it!

Thank you Larry, I've been waiting for Humble Bundle to offer a Vegas Pro update. I've been running version 15 for years and it's starting to feel a bit tired. This should be a big improvement.

Thanks guys (Marc and LAGinz) for pointing me in the right direction. I have to give the guys at InMusic credit who are dealing with BFD, they were polite, helpful, punctual and came through on the ticket request in 2 days. I'm downloading London Sessions now - and their helpfulness has inspired me to invest in a new expansion pack from them. I was thinking of the Vintage Recording Techniques pack - I'm really into that retro drum sound. Any suggestions?

@Jan SchmitzSchmitzSchmitzSchmitz ? If you've got that much lolly to burn, feel free to throw some of it my way. ? I've been sweating over whether to get a 23 dollar plugin or not. ?
-
I tried a mix with he vocals a few dB higher but, for some reason, it throws the whole mix out. It just didn't sit well. So I decided to throw caution to the wind and go with this mix. It's coming out Dec on streaming and has already gone to radio. Fingers crossed. ?

Thanks mate. I do mic the guitar close to the base of the fretboard. I like to get fret noises into my mixes (I love driving you engineers crazy), but I did use some compression and limiter on the squeaks to suppress them somewhat. The fret playing is pretty frantic too, lots of sliding up and down the frets. Club mix sounds like a good idea - I might ask a friend if he can do a remix for me.

This year I got: nothing Yep. I resisted every offer.

How did you get the London Sessions? I had BFD and I read somewhere that you can do a license transfer, but who do I need to contact for that, InMusic or Fxpansion? Cheers

Just to ram the point home @fret_man : this is on the InMusic facts page: "How can I migrate my BFD1/2/Eco kits for use in BFD 3.4? Factory Audio Content from BFD 1/2/Eco cannot be used with BFD 3.4; this audio content has been packaged as BFD El Dorado (for BFD 1) and BFD London Sessions (For BFD 2). " So, do not buy those old expansion packs unless you own BFD 1 and never intend to update your OS because..... "Please Note: If you change computers, or update your OS/Computer Components, you will lose access to BFD 1/2/Eco."
-
Be careful with these because the BFD fxpansion packs that came out wayyyyy back pre-2000 may not work with later versions of BFD (such as BFD 3). I own the original BFD version 1 and none of its content works with BFD 3. The Jazz and Funk kit in the first link above is for BFD 1 (I recognize the engine). It's something to do with the authorization. So if you're hoping to buy these kits to use in BFD 3, don't. They probably won't work. https://fxpansion.com/support/faq/bfd2/ This from the link above: "Is BFD2 backward compatible with all BFD1 data and expansion packs? Yes - however, it's not a "drop in replacement" - songs and projects saved with BFD1 will still load with BFD1. BFD1.x and BFD2 can co-exist on the same system. BFD2 will not interfere with any existing BFD1.x-based projects, and you can continue to use BFD 1.x as normal. BFD2 is compatible with all audio and grooves in BFD1.x and all BFD-compatible expansion packs. BFD1.x presets can be imported into BFD2. There are some systems in BFD2 which don't match BFD1's exactly - for example, the new mixer and signal processing engine has many elements which have no counterpart in BFD1; BFD2's groove engine uses a single unified groove palette spanning the entire keyboard instead of 3 separate octave-bundles. BFD2 data is not compatibile with BFD1. Some kitpieces may play in BFD1, but BFD2 uses Mid/Side encoding for the room microphones, and allows 3 snare direct microphones, both of which are not supported in BFD1. Any expansion packs that you want to use with BFD2 must be authorized in the FXpansion License Manager, which is installed with BFD2 and controls authorization of all new FXpansion products and any expansion packs in BFD2. Your expansion packs (and BFD 1.x, if you intend to use the original BFD library sounds) need to be registered in the same user account as your BFD2 license. If you have ended up with multiple accounts for different products, please contact our technical support department to resolve the situation." And this form the BFD 3 faq page: https://support.bfddrums.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000801225-bfd3-frequently-asked-questions#I'm-having-problems-with-adding-expansion-packs-to-my-BFD3-installation---please-help? "Will my BFD2 and expansion pack content work in BFD3? Yes, however - the BFD2 and BFD 1.x libraries have been repackaged as BFD London Sessions and Eldorado respectively. Please reach out to s at www.bfddrums.com/support with your FXpansion serials and the email associated with your new inMusic account and we can get you that content. All other BFD-compatible expansion packs - are usable after they have been specified within BFD3's content locations (data paths). If you have already authorized your expansion packs for use on your system, you will not need to re-authorize them for use with BFD3. I'm having problems with adding expansion packs to my BFD3 installation - please help? Each content location can have either a /Data or /Audio sub-folder - not both. If any of your specified content locations feature both a /Data and /Audio sub-folder, the easiest way to overcome the issue is to create a new folder elsewhere, move the /Audio folder to it, then add and activate the new folder as another content location. If you are continuing to use BFD2 on your system to load older sessions, the new folder should also be added to your BFD2 data paths after which the database must be rescanned. If in any doubt regarding this procedure, please contact our support team who will be happy to assist you."

I know it's frustrating but hang in there - there was a system update which made it more stable. I'm on build 3.4.4 build 29. The License Manager is version 3.0.6.22 I can use this without having to check for updates for 82 days. Are you using that build?

Hi guys, I'd love your feedback on this. I was thinking of releasing this mix on Spotify. It's a reworking of a track I did a few months back. I've added piano, drums, bass and spatial sounds. I'd like to know if it sits right or if there are any sounds or frequencies jumping out. Thanks

I bought BFD version 1 way back in the 90s. It was by far the most realistic drum program out there. What I loved about it was that the sound you got was 'clean', like studio kits, so perfect for indie guitar artists such as myself. And the sample rate in Vers 1 was higher than in the later versions. I would have continued with BFD 1 indefinitely except that system requirements and new version of Windows made it too glitchy to use reliably (shame really). Over the years bedroom musicians have become less interested in that 'clean' studio sound - they want their drum loops ready to drop into a mix straight out the box. The old school of lovingly tweaking the snare sound and gating the bass and drums seems to have gone the way of the Dodo. I think it's for this reason BFD fell behind in the market. Their base of users were either getting old (like myself) or being replaced with younger kids who treat drumming like finger painting. They tried to keep up with innovations such as Geist, but they were always playing catch-up at that point. That said, I did jump in and upgrade to BFD 3 when InMusic offered the upgrade deal. It was a very good deal at the time (included 3 drum kits for free too). Like others, I went through the painful installation and registration nightmare. The pain that every time I opened it, I kept having to register it again and again and again. In their favour, they did release an update that resolved some of those issues. However, I rarely find myself reaching for BFD 3. Simply because it's a bit fiddly. The interface is not as intuitive as BFD 1, the indexing system is not easy to navigate. It's a shame really because it is a great piece of kit with a lot of power. Maybe this thread has inspired me to give it another shot.
