  1. Hi guys, It's been a long time since I've written new music, but this track was written and recorded within a week. It just came out fully formed. I'd love to know what you think. Thanks. Note: I've updated the link to the most recent version.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not really thinking of the money, just curious as to how the different platforms seem to perform in terms of visitor numbers. It seems that You Tube is doing something right because I'm getting a lot of hits without even pushing the tracks.....whereas Spotify.....I'm on about 20 playlists, but they only start counting after 20 plays, so the numbers are very low. I have no idea what is happening with Apple though.....zero interest on Apple. I guess my music just doesn't appeal to Appleheads. Well done on the subscriber base.

I'm in Italy, and it works here.

On track 1, the main guitar is my old Danelectro plugged straight into the desk, is that the one you mean? Most of the track was recorded on a Digital 8 track (year 2000 baby) with some Zoom effect rack. The drums were recorded with 3 mics in Archway practice studios into the digital 8 track (pretty impressive if you ask me). Bass may have been recorded at a studio in Brixton. Vocals (if I remember) were recorded in my old companies pro recording studio, so nice mic. Everything else was recorded by me on either a cassette 4 track, or Digital 8 track, or into Cool Edit. It was slated to be a single release (got a release note and everything), but it never happened.

? Really? What region are you in?

I think the best way of putting it is that the CD version was more transparent with more variation in the high and low volume peaks. Streaming tends to squash the sound more because it needs to cut through on all types of speakers (laptop, car, crappy earbuds). It needs to be more in your face.

I've recently reissued my officially unreleased album from 2002. The original mixes were mastered for vinyl and CD, so I remastered it for streaming. It's up on all the usual platforms, but surprisingly You Tube Music seems to be getting the most hits. So, I'll put a link to that here> It's really interesting looking at the stats I get back from all the various platforms. Currently, top of the streams is You Tube Music, followed by Spotify. What's really interesting though is that Apple Music has zero hits. Every now and then I get a Shazam, but Apple has never delivered for me. Does anyone still use it for music? Another disappointment is Deezer. No love for Deezer, it seems.
  8. ...because the thing I need most on my audio interface is RGB LED lighting Looks like they are designing these specifically for the streaming community, so they can look 'purdy in their videos.
  9. I've got two Westwood pianos. I was initially very enthusiastic about them, they have a similar sound to the Spitfire Firewood, but I then noticed the settings had a tendency to reset by themselves , often without warning. This is especially frustrating if you get a nice sounds but didn't save the settings. Also the touch is very erratic. If you are looking for consistency, they are not yet there. I would definitely suggest trying out their free Felted piano first to see if you like it. You will need full Kontakt.
  10. It's modelled on a rare 1905 piano and has tons of character. There are also a lot of presets that sound distinctively different to all the other pianos I own. I personally love soft pianos or felted pianos and the maverick sits somewhere between that and a Michael Nyman sound.
  11. The piano I go back to again and again is Native Instruments Maverick. It has so much character, and it's a stable program (unlike some piano VSTs I could mention....*Spitfire*). I agree with Paul. I'm fed up wasting time trying to load up pianos, losing presets, or just general instability.
  12. Good idea. I'll give that a shot and report back.
  13. I'm bumping this post. Has anyone used the Indie Bible? Would it be worth getting if you're based in Europe?
  14. I received an email this morning asking me to submit my music for licensing opportunities in films. The email did not address directly me, just 'Greetings'. It asks me to send my music for consideration in films and TV projects. Has anyone else ever received unsolicited emails of this type? Can it be trusted? Thanks guys
  15. I'm considering getting the indie Bible by David Wimble for radio stations and playlists, but before shelling out, I thought I'd ask if anyone on here has ever used it and whether it was as useful as the hype makes out. Cheers in advanced for any help
  16. In the latest update, do you always have to be signed in to Bandlab? I'm still on an earlier stable version of CbB which never required signing in, and I like to work off line (when possible).
  17. Has anyone else received an invite to be an m-audio beta tester? Do you think this is legit? How could I find out?

    Virtual wah wah

I guess, yes. Is there such thing as a midi triggered expression pedal?

    Virtual wah wah

Does anyone know of there are any virtual wah wah pedals that can be played using a digital piano pedal? Just curious
  20. Definitely a much better performance. You sound a lot more present in the choruses than before. There are a few tuning issues that you could correct post production, but a much better performance. Bravo! I personally dislike using auto-tune software as I find my vocals work better when they are slightly flat, but something that I like to do sometimes is to run my vocal through an auto-tune and make a note of where it corrects my vocals (this give me a map of where my vocal deaf-spot might be while performing), then I re-sing the vocals paying attention to hit those notes correctly. I am not a great vocalist. I work with what mother nature has given me. But I do like to be as honest as possible with my vocal performances.
  21. Lovely production on the piano and drums. Crazy drum roll at 2:00, but I loved it. You know what I'm gonna say - the voxs need work. You start off really well. Nailed that Lennon sound to your voice. But you need to carry that on to the chorus and really let rip. You probably already know the story about how Lennon and Yoko got into a weird screaming therapy group called Primal Scream (which went on to be the name of a UK band). Lennon used to scream out those lines, just like in the song Mother. It's a risky vocal to do. Like a high wire act. I'd never take up that challenge personally, so hats off to you. For curiosity sake, there is a video of Lennon performing Mother live, where he's chewing gum, and, either his vocal chords aren't warmed up or else he suddenly swallows his gum....you hear his voice just snap. He carries on, but it's nothing like the album version. Check out the 1 minute mark. So, my advice - channel your birthing self. Let rip with that first primal scream of birth and really attack that chorus. ....and don't forget to have fun doing it.
  22. Are you going to put up a new mix? I'll give it a listen when you do.
