His new GIG is as a musical director / main musical performer .

If he happens to be working your boat you may have to suffer through all his Celine Dion Titanic Tribute shows ...

Save your knuckles and just throw him overboard !

  3. This year on March 31 st  I slept in what I thought was an official Coffee House tee shirt.

I woke up the next day with the realization that I had become the recipient of a cruel April Fools Day prank ....

I should have known better .

There is no such thing as an official Coffee House tee shirt .

  4. Slept in my Jimi Hendrix tee shirt and when I woke up I gave her the gun.

Slept in my James Brown tee shirt and woke up feeling good.

Slept in my Robert Johnson tee shirt and  I woke up standing at the crossroads.

Slept in my Humble Pie tee shirt and woke up with a doctors bill from yet another doctor I don't' need .

Slept in my Led Zeppelin tee shirt and woke up to "her"  maxing out our plastic by buying yet another Stairway to Heaven from Amazon .

Slept in my Hall and Oats tee shirt and woke up with a Man Eater . When I asked her what happened to my Man she said OH That ? I took it home in a doggie bag and gave it to my dog .

Slept in my Cakewalk Coffee House tee shirt and woke up with not only the sweet aroma of becan in my kitchen I also had a Cakewalk Coffee House mug filled with coffee sitting right there on my counter .

  5.  It seems A I vocals appear to be gaining  a foothold in music production much sooner than many people had anticipated .

This video appears to be demo for a Musical  tool called AceStudio . This video is the first I have heard of AceStudio ...

This appears to have a deep learning curve . Near the end of the video the guy singing could have sang at Carnegie Hall if this App works in real time.

I wonder how good it can make an expressive melodic guitar part sound !

  6. This is the Austrian Vegetable  Orchestra  . They are looking to get Bapu to join so they can add more flavor to the music  .

In addition to adding more flavor to the Music , they want the sole bragging rights as to being the only Vegetable Orchestra in The World with an Alembic Bass made solely out of Vegetables    ?

Just be careful ! after a few drinks you might think the watermelon is a backstage groupie . If you act on it then you may  find yourself never ever getting invited to play or attend a barbecue For Life !!!!

    How do I know ? ?

PS I like to buy Vegan sale foods at Grocery Outlet , cook them up and add sausages , chicken or beef to them ...It sure adds flavor !

I was recently stunned to learn through a mutual friend that Keith Kurciewski, who is a good friend of mine (used to live around the block from me in Alameda before he got a job with National and then started his own store), is shutting down 3Tracks and has already moved back to California.

Who the hell moves from OR to CA?

Then when I found out the reason, that St. Johns has become plagued with crime, I was even more stunned. I drove up to PDX 8 years ago to be there and help him out at the store's grand opening, and I though St. John's was a beautiful, charming area that was up and coming, with him moving in and a record store opening across the street.

Now he tells me that the record store had to close due to multiple instances of vandalism and burglary, and he's shutting down 3 Tracks!

I don't know if you remember, but several years back, there was a break-in attempt at his store that his amp repair guy (my former housemate and protege) fended off by brandishing a socket wrench. It made the local nightly TV news.

Who did you find to do the work on your Gibby? Is St. John's the district you're referring to?

People are placing the blame for this stuff on the local DA being as useless as bewbies on a boar hog.

Me, I bought cheap guitars from Craig's List and learned how to do my own refrets.

For now let me stick with the two things you said that I brought out to the forefront .

At the moment I do not feel comfortable to bring my guitar over to either of  shops I have researched . I'm sure their work is fine but for now lets just say I choose to not mention their names  because I do not want to throw shade at them as far as where they are located .

The last few  times I have been to a local Guitar Center in North Portland I got bad vibes ... I pull in the parking lot and there  is broken glass from cars that had gotten broken into in broad daylight . Then there is a whole parade of guys and girls with bicycles walking while pushing a stuffed shopping cart ...

Then all along the road is tent city ....and on weekends the general area is taken over for street racing ...Eff all That

The last guitar tech that did fret work on one of my guitars was Jay Black ! who wound up being a Fender Custom Shop Luther . I can live with the low frets for now .

My ES is somewhat of a rare guitar . It's a Gibson ,and at 42 years old in excellent condition it only needs  a fret job . There were only 478 of them made in two years  .

I played one of the same model ES 175 almost 40 years ago and it has taken me 38 years to acquire the one I got ....

Kenny, I'm subscribed to the Five Watt World channel, he certainly makes some really interesting videos.

    Hi Steve !

The Few Video's of his I have seen were very good . He does the research and puts it out there  as very easy to understand  . Plus he  seems OK with not trying to specifically change anybody's mind or force anyone over to his point of view .

    That I respect .

@kennywtelejazz Wow!! I just watched that Jay Roberts video!! Unbelievable!! I had to watch that first 30 seconds of the video several times!! I have never seen that type of practice technique!!

Any guitar player needs to watch that first 30 second of that video.

[edit] Just watched the other video. Had no idea I have heard Howard all my life. He was just all over my fav TV shows!!

Great player. Uneducated. Self taught. Playing jazz like that??!!!

    Hi Grem !

One thing is for sure ! there is no need to have a DNA test done on The Maury Show to determine if Howard Roberts is Jay Roberts father ?

Impressive guitar playing ability in the first 30 seconds ?  A must watch ...Yes !!! I would say so .

Jay is demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt in those first 30 seconds how it is possible for a guitar player to overcome the limitations most guitar players hit as brick walls in their playing ...

Having a full tank of gas in a car can give one the ability to go many places. The same applies to guitar and guitar playing .

When a guitar player has practiced arduously to maintain a full tank of chops on hand . The guitar player will have earned the ability to have a lot of headroom concerning what technical augmentations they can add and pull off comfortably in their music and playing .

I think it is important to mention three points here ,

1 , These skills are a perishable resource .  They must be maintained or they can be lost .

(On the other side of the coin if you loose them you can always work to get them back ) .

2,  The true gift of these hard won techniques are the key that will unlock ones ability to play the guitar expressively by granting the guitar player the freedom of getting out their own way .  No longer will they be held back by themselves due to a lack of technique .

3, Once the realization  presents itself that practicing these techniques will greatly aid in ones ability to play . One needs to decide on whether to focus on using these techniques  for playing the guitar or enhancing ones own ability to play music on the guitar.  Guitar playing and Music are sometimes two separate entities that carry their own deep satisfactions and rewards .

    Nice rapping with you !

OK !  Great! ! Get all the rest you can . Your gonna need it when you go to climb the highest peak in the land called Mt Super Chops !

Once you set out learning how to play this type of stuff on the guitar . You will find the need to be Bright eyed , bushy tailed and fit for duty !

OK soldier ! you have been given a top secret security clearance . You have also been given The Super Chops material  ! This is no longer a drill !

Now drop and give me 50 ways to play an A Minor on the guitar with out repeating yourself . First while using a pick and then with out using a pick  ?

  13. The Gibson ES 175 CC I bought a little over a year ago was a guitar I had wanted to own and play for 40 years .

I got the ES  at a good price because the frets were pretty low and the guitar needed a fret job .

I personally don't like fret less wonder neck set ups so I start saving up the money to get the fret work done .

Other than that one vintage wear and tear issue , the guitar itself is in great shape . ???

His video hit the nail on the head when he mentioned often times Vintage Guitars need work done to them .

Getting them playable for your personal playing preferences may involve costly repairs.

Finding the right qualified person / shop to have the work done has been a real PITA .

I did an extensive search and I may have found a shop in Portland OR to have the work done ....

Yeah Great ...So Guess what ?

So now that I have left Vintage Guitar Repair Purgatory !! I'm now in Vintage Guitar Repair Limbo !

A fret job in the shop I'm considering having the work done at costs right on the border just about North of $600.00 +.

If I have to pay that much to get it done right OK !  I think I Ken Do It !

So I close my eyes, take a deep breath, click my cowboy boots three times ,  grab my ankles and whisper. I Ken do that ?

OK! so now I have taken all the time it took to raise the coin to get the work done . It still feels like I can't seem to win ....

I live a few miles just outside of an area where many reputable stores and shops make the Local News almost nightly for repeated break ins, store vandalism and thefts .The repair shop is dead smack in the thick of all that ...

Even though I have questioned the shop personal on the phone about how things are for the shop, the safety of the area , and parking .

I have decided put the fret job on hold because I am not leaving my guitar anyplace with anyone for 2  to 3 months  just to have the work done ....

    NO Ken DO

I'm just not feeling the Love !

So on behalf of myself and my  Vintage ES 175  . We are proud to have contributed and we gladly accept the Trophy for Our respectable Fifth Place finish in The Great Guitars that Suck to Own thread  :P

  15. OK it is now time to share an experience of what happened too me where I'm not exactly proud of the experiences out come .

    away ...

    Having said that !

This one goes down as not being my brightest idea !

Back in the day I went full on fastest guitar slinger mode by entering into a fully one sided  competition  of fret board chops with a top call session guitarist in his own home and boy did I really pissed him off .

When  all was said and done this guitar hero got up off his chair and stood there there pointing his finger at the front door of his N.Y.C. home while commanding me in a forceful tone of voice to

" Get the hell out of my house now " I'm not gonna put up with this $Hit in my own home "

So I handed him back the 60's Fender Strat !  he played all "his" iconic guitar parts on from the song /recording  Reeling In The Years and left .

From that day onward for at least what seemed like a solid decade my phone stopped ringing.....

It took me a real long time for the light bulb of that lesson to light up and fully take root.

What did I eventually learn ?

When you think your the fastest guitarist in the West.  Don't go out and try to prove it to The World .

Resist the temptation to prove your agility and prowess by fast drawing on your musical jam partners and collaborators.

When you are playing music with people it is always possible they can help you because they may turn out to be an asset or even form a future alliance with you to help aid you in your musical career .

The opposite effect can also be true which I happened to find out that day!

It don't matter if you playing checkers , cards,  bowling , golf or guitars !

Always tailor what you play on your instrument to complement their playing !

Learn from my mistake !!! ?

    Don't pull a "Kenny " !!  Always let them win :P

    Kenny
