  1. I need to combine tracks of one project with another project. I’ve done this in the past, but I don’t think it was the best method possible. Any thoughts on this? michael
  2. If I have a vocalist come in and record I always run those tracks through Melodyne. Sometimes it really doesn't need it except for the fact that every song seems to be Auto-tuned. I then take that singer's track and either copy it to a new lane (this seems the most efficient method) or copy it to another track and mute both. My computer is fairly powerful so I don't have a problem putting a 4 minute track into Melodyne. I select the Correct Pitch Macro and slide both pitch and drift to 100% and give it a good listen before I keep it. I didn't do this for many years, but for some reason it works wonderfully. If it doesn't work I just grab notes in Melodyne and start making adjustments, that's when I get lost in the whole thing and realize the sun is rising again. I am always open to better ways of working with Melodyne. So, I am all ears.
  3. I think I had the Roland SC-55. I had it in my Gateway 486 computer. That is how I started with Cakewalk. I thought it sounded great and filled me with dreams of glory. If I could only go back 30 years with the equipment and knowledge I have today. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
  4. I see a few of us are in the same age bracket and have similar Cakewalk and tape deck experiences. My 3340S sits proudly in my studio, but it doesn't work. I had to put it in storage for 4 years because I moved from state to state to state (and almost London and Sydney) and when I finally settled down it just refused to work. I read that not using it for years is a major cause for this. I also read that repairs are expensive. I also have a Pioneer reel to reel that sadly doesn't get used much. I also started with Cakewalk with Windows 3.1 and have been recording with Cakewalk for 30 years. Unfortunately, I have weak electronic and programming skills, but I can write music which is what it is all about for me.
  5. Did you apply clip automation (volume or pan) to that track or lane? If so, you have to change the clip automation back to clips.
  6. Mark, I did create a new user account and Cakewalk did not open in that account, either. Strange that it opened in the admin account considering that I witnessed with my own eyes (in Windebug) that the ACT controller was clearly crashing it. I never knew of Windebug, before. What a hip little program. Michael
  7. Noel is a class act. Smart guy and a fine jazz guitarist. That alone would have put him in my high regard. I know my wishes for Cakewalk are a bit "pie in the sky" but I still wish for better video implementation and staff editing. A guy can dream. I am on several forums and none have a Noel. If you ever join a beta team and your app is dead in the water and nobody responds to the problem you quickly learn the value of a Noel. Michael
  8. I spent the last 2 days totally confused as to why Cakewalk would not start. Many of you gave great instructions to solve the problem, but nothing worked. Finally, I had to call on Noel. He got under the hood and discovered the ACT controller was corrupt and would not let Cakewalk open. He pulled a rabbit out of his hat and now my world is a much better place. I owe him a great deal of thanks. Cheers to Noel! Michael
  9. Who can I go to with this problem? Cakewalk will not start. With Win 11 opened in Admin, Cakewalk will open With Windows opened in my account, Cakewalk screen will come on and then Cakewalk closes My account, by every measure I can tell, operates as administrator I need Cakewalk to work, I need it for my job. Michael
  10. Mark, thank you for that very detailed response. I followed you directions and all looks good. The system did not restart when I pressed the Check button. I used Microsoft Defender and the system is clean. Scannow did not find any issues. But, I ran a Scannow earlier today and it did find an issue (I forget what it was) and then fixed the problem. Scannow does not find a problem. Cakewalk still doesn't start. Thank you, Michael
  11. Awhile back Noel had a thread about a redistributable installer. I installed that, cleaned the registry, and restarted the computer. It didn’t work. I went into regedit and deleted more than 30 remaining bits of the Korg nanoKontrol. That didn’t work, either. If I uninstall Cakewalk can I save any of my settings and/or plugins? I have to get this to work.
  12. User and Mark, if I change to the admin account on my computer I can start Cakewalk. Unfortunately, other programs like RME TotalMix are nowhere to be found. I went back to my regular account and still can't open Cakewalk. I have removed all the Korg software and unplugged the USB. Am I missing something? Michael
  13. Okay, I tried everything I could find. Most of the items to change were already there. Nothing worked. I have disabled anti-virus, deleted all Korg nanoKontrol items, changed Cakewalk folder properties to Full, user account all set up as administrator. It was already setup as open as administrator. I have restarted the computer many times. Why did this happen after I restarted windows after setting up the Korg software? BTW, I have had that software installed several times before without it causing this problem.
  14. User, thank you. I was so frustrated that I forgot to Google the problem.
  15. Installed Korg nanoKONTROL2 software now Cakewalk will not install. I even reinstalled December's Cakewalk and tried to open as administrator and it will not open. I received this error code: Create Process failed; code 740. The requested operation requires elevation. I had been using Cakewalk for 2 hours without a problem but I needed to see if nanoKontrol2 would work. I'm using Spitfire Solo Strings and I need to control attack and vibrato. What should I do? Thank you, Michael
  16. Okay, you can be right. Does it make you feel better?
  17. The topic is the future of Cakewalk, so my concerns are considered hijacking to you?
  18. I’ve been with Cakewalk since the early 1990s, the floppy disk years and hope I can stay with Cakewalk. I am very tempted to try my hand at scoring music for videos. I just can’t do it with Cakewalk. Not being able to move the video clip where I want it to go is a non-starter for me. It also feels sluggish. Also, I wish there were more flexibility with the staff view. I’ve spent the last year working with piano roll, but it still isn’t a staff. If I write a complex chord sequence and work on fine tuning a melody or harmony I cannot look at a piano roll while it is moving and know what the heck it is going on. I use about 6 Spitfire libraries and when I see their tutorials or other YouTube musicians using them they seem to have it easier accessing the multiple aspects of the libraries. Lastly, my Korg nanokontrol is just a hunk of plastic. It works and then doesn’t work. People who use other daws don’t seem to have this issue. All of these issues might just be me, but I don’t think so. I can’t seem to find any Cakewalk videos for advanced users. I feel a bit left out. This forum seems to be the only place for me to find answers. Seems like many pros use Cubase. Am I wrong? I appreciate the fact that Cakewalk is free and that there have been many updates, yet I don’t feel like Meng is aiming this product at pros, but is shooting for young users who are lured at the price of entry.
  19. Well now, this is embarrassing. I always select All on Display on the bottom left, but my brain failed to compute the All on the top of the page.
  20. Somebody help me. I don't have the cluster of 4 output and input gain and pan sliders, the stereo button, or the output 1+ button on my Master dialog box. Also, my mixes are painfully low, but are peaking out in Cakewalk. What am I doing wrong. Thank you, Michael
  21. I was a 5 night a week musician for years. I used to run a stereo guitar rig that included a Fender Dual Showman Reverb amp with a 2x15 cabinet. My back is shot and I need multiple epidurals every year and still can't walk around a NYC block. Two years ago I had 3 disks in my neck replaced. A god awful surgery. Don't have it unless it is life or death, as it was in my case. I still need another one, my left hand can't get around a guitar neck. What a mess. Yet, I write and record much more. Good at the music writing, still bad at the mixing and mastering. I once played for a week with pneumonia. I was young and stupid, but the music was good. Michael
  22. I understand the task scheduling, but I ignorantly never looked up what MMCSS does. I'm going to spend some time with it unchecked to see if it interferes with ASIO and my RME interface with is quite nice for USB2. Just goes to show the value of good programming. Michael
  23. I've become a minor dpc latency internet legend. I have been hit hard by this annoyance. Every couple of weeks I make a change or 2 and have not had any stutters this new year. I've had a motherboard change and have used every NVIDIA graphics driver that was made for the 3060ti card. I've settled on the scenario that LatencyMon may detect a dpc latency but it does not seem to cause a stutter in recording and playback. That is great progress. I don't need Cakewalk running to experience my problems. The most recent discovery was to go into Device Manager and go to USB controllers and then into Properties and Power Management. Uncheck Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power. I did this for all the USB items listed. It was a small help, but it did help. I wish there was a universal check box to completely turn off all power management and throttling. I'm still dealing with an issue concerning nvlddmkm.sys, thanks to the NVIDIA card problem. Sad to say I have contacted NVIDIA support several times and they never answered. Michael
