BACKGROUND: Back in 2015 there was a thread on the old Cakewalk site that showed us “How to get Roland/Edirol devices to work with Windows 10”. http://forum.cakewalk.com/The-ultimate-guide-to-get-your-RolandEdirol-devices-to-work-with-Windows-10-Updated-m3267234.aspx There we learned to use an edited Roland driver file that changed an “inf” file to work with Windows 10. There were different methods, but it required us to “Disable Driver Signature” and then to install the changed driver for the Roland device. It worked! For me, I used this method: 1) hold the “Shift” key while restarting Windows, then 2) select “Troubleshoot”, then 3) select “Advanced Options”, then 4) select “Startup Settings”, then 5) select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”, then 6) boot the computer with drivers signature enforcement disabled, then 7) install the edited Roland driver and then, 8) plug in the Roland device. It WORKED GREAT! Our beloved old Roland midi keyboards worked even though Roland had stopped updating their drivers for these products. Now that Windows 11 is announced and soon to be released, it will require enhanced security features including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. QUESTION: Does anybody know if Windows11 will allow configuration to “Disable Driver Signature” and install an edited driver for our Roland midi controllers? I realize that it is very early and Windows 11 has only been announced, but some of you already have beta or leaked versions of Windows 11 installed. I also understand that we may have to edit the "inf" file again to have the “11” information . But Does Win11 even allow a configuration to Disable Driver Signature configuration so we can install such a driver? It would be ashamed to loose use of beloved Roland midi keyboards because of upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11. So, while it is early in the Window11 rollout, I thought I would start this thread so we can learn if our older Roland midi devices can work on Windows 11 Thanks for any help with this.

Native Instruments Komplete upgrade deals starts June 1st!
Cecelius2 replied to Yan Filiatrault's topic in Deals
Mine shipped on Fedex International 2 day on 6/22, but I just got an update from Fedex tracking that it will not arrive here in NW USA until Monday 6/28. I am not blaming T&S, but that is not really "2 Day international" delivery. -
I have a 7th gen Intel CPU which works fine with my DAW setup, and while it has a TPM header, it will not pass the 8th Gen minimum. This is really Sad. Many home studios will not pass the Win11 minimums. I was going to build a new DAW computer this year, but now I will definitely wait until Motherboards have TPM2.O and are certified as Win11 compatible before I build my next computer. This means a delay. I just hope that DAW and vst developers do not require Win11 as their minimum specs when they do their next updates/upgrades.
-
I hope you are correct! I fear that some DAW developers (like Steinberg/Cubase) will demand Windows 11 for their upgrades, or that some vst developers will require the latest Windows (11) for their updates/upgrades. I have a 7th gen intel chip that works just fine, but some sites are saying that Microsoft in addition to the TPM are also requiring at least an 8th gen processor. This is really a sad development from Microsoft. As I said elsewhere, a lot of DAW computers will fail to meet the WIN11 requirements. Really Sad! FYI--I do try to upgrade my DAW Computer every three or four years, but I think I will wait for motherboards to come out that are stable, tested and have TPM already onboard and are certified as Window 11 compliant.
-
I ran the PC Health check and found that none of my three computers will run Win11. I was going to build a new PC this year, but I will now definitely WAIT until it is clear that new motherboards will definitely run Windows 11 before I start looking for components. I suspect that a lot of home and project studio DAW owners are going to be disappointed to find out that their computers will not run Window 11. And what if the new DAW programs and vsts require WIN11???? I am not happy, but at least Win 10 will be around until 2025.
-
I do agree with you. I just realized that I have a Roland/Edirol PCR800 and remember the problems we had hacking the driver so it would work with Windows 10. I just found that old thread and have bookmarked it in case we need to hack the driver again so that it will work with Windows 11.

Native Instruments Komplete upgrade deals starts June 1st!
Cecelius2 replied to Yan Filiatrault's topic in Deals
I am okay with the delay as long as the price is locked and I get the product as contracted by the sale. BTW- I just checked Sweetwater and they also are still out of stock for the upgrade. So if I had ordered through Sweetwater I would also still be waiting. At least we have a better idea of why there has been a delay with T&S. -
This is my point of view also. I am fine with a new Windows 11 as long as I can run my DAW and my plugins with stability.

Native Instruments Komplete upgrade deals starts June 1st!
Cecelius2 replied to Yan Filiatrault's topic in Deals
I got this from T&S this morning in response to an email I sent them: We apologise for the delay in shipping your order. Our stock arrived in the UK on the 10th June but due to Brexit / UK Customs and despite notification it was released and would be delivered yesterday, we are still waiting. Native Instruments have confirmed their shipping documents are correct, all duties and fees were paid and they are working to get it released and delivered. Our following stock order has also been shipped by NI and will be in the country tomorrow. We have sufficient stock being delivered to fulfil all orders and spare. As soon as it is here your delivery will be confirmed by email which will also confirm your tracking number. -

I jumped on the T&S boxed K13UCE upgrade 10 days ago and like others here am waiting to hear that it has shipped. I checked Sweetwater--they are also out of stock--so this is not just a problem with T&S. Probably NI is backordering this???? At least we got the good price (50% off and the two freebies). On a different note--I was really surprised that K13UCollectors Edition did not include the new Action Strings 2. You would think that the Collector's Edition would have everything, but it does not include Action Strings2. -

Where is the best place for best price to purchase (download version) of Komplete13Collectors Edition Upgrade (from K12Ultimate) in the USA? I don't need the hard-drive and don't see any USA vendors that have it on sale. I would normally purchase from Jrrshop but they do not have the sale yet. Thanks -
Good News! Spitfire is fixing the LABS Leak. I received an email from Spitfire tech support today with beta versions that fix the leak. I have tested the vst and vst3 beta releases and I used Pluginguru's Unify 1.5 to make sure that this is fixed. I tried every category/type of LABS instruments and there were no crashes any more; I also let it run for most of the morning; no crashes. So, Spitfire will be updating this fix to Labs at some point (I do not know when). C2

FYI--Labs Memory leak. The programmer/coder over at PluginGuru has said that Labs has a serious Memory Leak problem. Here is a link to their forum where he says: "LABS has serious memory bugs. We have an ongoing discussion with Spitfire Audio support staff." and also "This is a known issue with the LABS plug-in, which I have reported to Spitfire Audio. It affects every host, not just Unify. Please report it to Spitfire yourself,..." Here is a link to his quote: https://forums.pluginguru.com/questions-about-unify-v1-0/unify-is-crashing-labs/#post-8761 My problem is that Labs is still crashing my Cakewalk and Cubase DAWS on two different Desktop computers, but to be fair I have had the vst Unify from pluginguru also running when LABS crashed. Please submit support tickets to Spitfire Audio Support so they can track down this memory leak and crashing of LABS. Cecelius2

I have seen LABS crash my Cakewalk and my Unify vst. I reported this to Spitfire Audio last week and opened a support ticket. You should also know that The Pluginguru complany has indicated that there is a problem with LABS crashing their PluginGuru Unify program and that LABS also is crashing multiple DAWS. Pluginguru opened a support ticket with Spitfire ; their support ticket # is: 169679. You should also report your problem to Spitfire and mention that ticket number. The more people who complain about this problem with LABS, the better the chance that it will be fixed. [EDIT: Since you mentioned the possiblity of a Netkar issue, let me add that this crashing happens no matter which controller I use, which are Native Instruments S61, StudioLogic SL990, and my Edirol/Roland PCR800; so I do not think it is related to Nektar controllers.-- I hope that helps. Please report your issue to Spitfire Audio's Support.]

Amplitube 5 is here - Release Date 15/12/20 or 16/12/20
Cecelius2 replied to Fret Flintstone's topic in Deals
Thanks. This is very helpful information. I do like and use the Fender collections and use mostly clean and clean boast overdriven sounds. I have installed AT5CS but it does not have the VIR cabinet enhancements; so it is hard to hear any cabinet changes. I am leaning toward getting AT5SE and your post has helped. Thanks C2 -

This has been alluded to in other posts, but I thought I would ask now that some of you have had time to try out AT5 QUESTION: How does AT5 compare to Neural DSP (Plini, Abasi, Fortin) or Scuffham S-Gear? I primarily use these and am very happy but I still use AT4 (Fender collections and SWR Bass). Is AT5 up to the same "realism" that S-Gear or Neural DSP provide? [I might upgrade AT4 to AT5SE but only if AT5 is close to Neural] Thanks C2 -
Thanks Matthew and Reid. Both of you have answered my question. What you have said is what I suspected. Your responses have helped.

Question for you guys who have purchased in previous seasons: If an Sonikinetic product is on sale during the Black Friday sale, is it worth waiting for the 12 Days of Christmas to see if it will also be part of that sale? or is it best to purchase the product during the BF sale as they do not repeat products during the Christmas sale? I ask because I have not purchased from them in either the BF or the 12 Days of Christmas sales. I have my eye on one of their products and definitely want to pick it up during a sale, but do not know how things have been done there in the past seasons. Any advice? C2

After reading this thread I waited. Then after several attempts, I finally was able to update my Cubase 10 to Cubase 11 Pro (using a 10 to 10.5 update). I had purchased the 10 to 10.5 update this past summer, but held the activation until 11 came out. At first, my eLicenser would not perform its maintenance process. It took several tries over several hours. But just now, the eLicenser successfully did its maintenance process. So, I then entered the 10 to 10.5 update and got a message that said they were updating me to Cubase 11. Thanks to those who recommended waiting this past Summer. I think I will do this every year (that is purchase the .5 update, but hold it until the next full update arrives before activation). C2

Off Topic a bit. How do you use the kontakthub credits? I have 57 credits, but do not know if that means 57 dollars/euros off or 57 cents. Anyone every used their credits?

I logged in and found that if I click on the menu tab (top far right) that there was a drop down menu. At the bottom of the drop down list there is a "sign out" option. I don't know if it is working properly. It did not seem to log me out, but when I exited and went back I was logged out.

Feature Request - Color Trigger Keyswitches Articulation ISs
Cecelius2 replied to sadicus's topic in Feedback Loop
+1 on Keyswitches needed. FYI--I am longtime user of Cakewalk (since 1994 TwelveTones Cakewalk 3.0 midi sequencer). Love Cakewalk. I also use Cubase Pro (because of midi editing and keyswitches) and I just got Studio One 5 upgrade only because of the keyswitches. Cakewalk (CnB) is my goto, first to goto, DAW. I use it first, but sometimes I have to use Cubase or SO5. I realize that the Bakers have done a tremendous job and I look forward to the new update with the expanded arranger track features. It would be nice if CnB would eventually get Keyswitch maping like Cubase Pro and SO5 have. Just my 2cents. C2 -
Signature Grand | Piano Library For Kontakt $49
Cecelius2 replied to Simeon Amburgey's topic in Deals
I did get a reply to my email today. I will not repeat all he wrote, but here are a couple paragraphs that pertain to the issue of distortion and some presets being too loud: "Thank you for your note and for the feedback. Please be aware that many of the presets are meant for a certain style of playing. For example, the preset "LA Beauty" which was mentioned on the Cakewalk forum as causing distortion, is meant for Thomas Newman "American Beauty" type delicate playing. It will certainly distort at louder velocities because it is not meant to be played that way. If other presets are distorting, they are most likely not the right preset for the playing style. If you would like to send me an export of your midi, I can take a look at it and recommend the most appropriate velocity settings and suggested presets. Also remember that you can always turn down the microphone volumes under the Close and Room microphones for gain staging. This is recommended as it behaves like an analog console." I can live with this since the tonal character of each preset is the desired behaviour as designed by the developer. I can tweak my velocity settings and maybe do some Kontakt Script editing to adjust the volume levels for my playing. I also will look forward to any future updates that the developer issues and will monitor that Vi-Control thread. C2
