You have to route the tracks to it.

Why are you resurrecting a year old thread just to make some nonsense comment?

In order to keep having ideas flowing out, you have to keep them flowing in.
When you feel like that reservoir has run dry its because, well, it has. That reservoir of creative ideas has to be replenished.
To that end:
1) Read. A lot. Anything and everything. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction, news,
2) Go to the art museum. Even if you don't live near one, a lot of stuff is online. Nothing, NOTHING, compares to standing right there in the same room with something, however. It is probably worth the drive.
3) Go on a little road trip. Go somewhere you haven't been before or haven't been in a long time. Stop. Explore. Don't just drive through.
4) Find new music. Listen to stuff that you haven't heard in ages. Listen to new stuff. Check out some of those artists you keep hearing about but never got around to listening to. Get outside your comfort zone and listen to things that are really different than what you usually do. If you're a Rocker, listen to some Jazz. If you're into Country, listen to some Metal. You get the idea.
I could go on, but basically just keep having new experiences.
5) I almost forgot: don't be afraid to write something crappy. There's no law that says you have to release it. But hell, if it sucks bad enough it could end up on the radio....

Anyone here know if and how I can switch my Korg X3 from program to combination play mode from within CbB? Even better would be Program/ Combination/ Sequencer.
I imagine any other Korg workstation would be pretty much the same.
It's not like I can't reach out and press the button but more than once, I have spent an embarrassing number of minutes trying to figure out why something sounded all wrong before realizing the keyboard was in the wrong mode.
I haven't found any information in the manual about this other than "push the button" unless maybe it is buried in the MIDI implementation chart and looking at that stuff makes my eyes bleed.

Maybe it would help if we knew what kind of gear you're using.
I've never heard of an interface that has only a stereo input.
-
What you need to do is record onto a mono track.
-
Beat me to it.
-
Or you could make it simple and plug a set of regular headphones into the headphone out on the interface. Done.
-
-
Are you using VST2 or VST3?

Even simpler is to create 16 MIDI tracks and assign each one to a different channel.

This belongs in "instruments and effects," not "deals."

If it's recognised by Windows, it must be a Cakewalk issue, don't you think?
Try another DAW? Reaper is small and easy to install. If it sees the MOTU, you know it's Cakewalk.
Not necessarily. I can plug my Korg Minilogue into a USB hub and Windows will see it, but it won't work.

Yes
If you had done that first, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

Why aren't you using the manufacturer's ASIO driver?
-
I don't know if it's any consolation, but I've had a project before go totally fubar and I had to rebuild it all over again from scratch.
-
Why do you have to go through this every time?
If you have such great luck with ASIO4ALL then I'm happy for you and you should go play the lottery.
I only mentioned your name because I knew you were going to pop back in here with your speil about how ASIO4ALL is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Why do you keep shilling for it? You on their payroll or something?
You're the one who needs to grow up and just accept that it might actually take an amount of money greater than zero to make this stuff happen with any kind of reliability.
I'm offering real help, not half- assed workarounds like BS wrappers for WDM drivers. That's all ASIO4ALL is anyway.
I gave up a long time ago on fiddle-f__ing around with band aids and half-assed workaround wrappers and just bit the bullet for proper equipment.
Even if I'd did work correctly for anyone but you, its redundant anyway because of WASAPI.
Anyway, why do you keep arguing with me about this? Go argue with the developers. They're the ones who say ASIO4ALL doesn't work properly with Cakewalk, that the Realtek ASIO driver is the worst they've ever seen and, barring a real interface, to use WASAPI instead.
You have a wonderful evening yourself.
-
The Realtek ASIO driver is known crap
Despite Will's protestations to the contrary, ASIO4ALL is known to be problematic. I didn't say that, the Bakers said it.
You're probably not going to want to hear this, and I seem to ruffle some people's feathers every time I say this, but if you get a proper audio interface with proper ASIO drivers, 99% of your audio problems will magically vanish.

Midi Quest can do what I want. Unfortunately, I don't have an extra $400 laying around.
It looks like it can also address what my next question was going to be and that was switching back and forth between program and combination mode.

The overall scenario here is mainly around Maschine (when running as a VST plugin). Maschine can take in MIDI and Audio and it can produce MIDI and Audio. So if you want to fully utilize Maschine within Cakewalk you can't. Say I have a hardware synth that I'd like to trigger from Maschine via MIDI (hosting within Cakewalk). Then I want to take the audio output of that hardware synth and route it into the Maschine plguin so that I can use Maschine's internal sampler to sample that synth
You can't do this by running two instances of it?
-
For what purpose? The only way that can possibly work is if the particular VSTi you're using can be configured as an audio effect and then it has to be placed in the effects rack of an audio track.

MOTU is a very Apple-centric company. It seems like Windows is merely an afterthought.
You should contact their support.
