  1. Not being detected by DAW programs but being detected by others was my problem, too. Neither Sonar Platinum/Cakewalk by Bandlab and Studio One 4.5 Pro were detecting my MOTU 4pre but the MOTU control program (CueMix FX) detected it and Windows Device Manager showed it as working OK. If all the Roland drivers and associated control programs were uninstalled, PC rebooted, and new install did not fix it then there is some Windows corruption and I would suspect what you noted was done with CCleaner and/or registry. If you have a full disc image backup (and you should) that would be the best step, restore using the disc image.
  2. CCleaner is mostly OK (I use an old version) but if not careful it can cause problems. I don't delete duplicate files as there is a possibility that different programs installed the files and if deleted potential for a problem. Same way with Registry scanners/cleaners, etc., avoid them like the plague. Revo Uninstaller Pro will scan Registry for left over items on an uninstall and I've never had a problem with what Registry items it flags for uninstall.
  3. Good suggestion. As its a known issue, I would have "assumed" it had previously been reported and maybe no fix (or no easy fix).
  4. Did you recently install anything or remove anything? Or even update anything? What version of Win 10 are you on? (1903?)
  5. Have you tried a different USB port for the Roland. If you are using a rear port, try a front port (if you are using a desktop). DO NOT use a USB hub. Also try a different USB cable. Also when uninstalling, remove both the device and driver then REBOOT the PC (don't skip this step). After Windows restarts do a new install.
  6. In my case uninstalling the Steinberg generic driver and associated registry entries (I assume as that is what I did). Device Manager showed it as working OK and the MOTU CueMixFX detected the MOTU but neither Cakewalk or Studio One 4.5 detected it until it was uninstalled/rebooted/reinstalled.
  7. I had this error after a corruption of my MOTU driver. I had an issue with selecting my MOTU and deleted a "generic driver". Deleting the generic driver corrupted the MOTU driver. I had to uninstall the MOTU device and driver, restart Windows 10 and then do a complete new install of the MOTU driver and support software. Then Cakewalk detected the MOTU again. See my other forum thread on the problem.
  8. I've never had ASIO4ALL installed. But, it was #$$% Cubase LE. I got it with a hardware device but never used it. I uninstalled Cubase LE and other Steinberg add-ons using Revo Uninstaller Pro as that also scans registry and for left over files. Rebooted (Win 10) but uninstalling the Steinberg/Cubase LE it corrupted my MOTU drivers and I had to uninstall the MOTU device and drivers, reboot the PC and do a complete new install of the MOTU drivers and control program. This fixed the selection problem, but it goes back to Cakewalk/Sonar unable to select/use the user selected device. It automatically defaults to what it wants, not what the user wants.
  9. Cakewalk (even latest 09 version) will not allow setting my MOTU unit as default in the Sync Caching/Record Latency Adjustment (Samples) option. It always reverts to "Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver (1 in 1 out). If I try to select my MOTU 4pre unit, when I click "Apply" it reverts to the generic low latency. My DAW system has Realtek for the PC Audio and it too shows as an option. Its not a Cakewalk version problem. Old Cakewalk version and Sonar Platinum do the same thing. Whether it matters or not, I would think I could select my recording interface device (the MOTU).
  10. I remember needing it back in the days when there were multiple CD discs for a Sonar install (Sonar 6/7/8 era). Could have been for some add-on that was supplied with Sonar.
  11. At one time I remember needing Quicktime for Sonar. Is this still the case or has it finally moved on? I still have Quicktime installed even though Apple no longer updates it as I have one program, "Discus" (CD and Jewel Case design and printing) that requires it.
  12. I do user support on the Dell Community forums. A relatively large portion of the problem reports, especially for Optiplex models, are from those that have purchased refurbished computers from various places. Like buying a used car, you pay your money and take your chances. Laptops which are prone to overheating to start with are especially iffy.
  13. Funny that Gibson is in Nashville where the predominant guitar in country bands is the Fender Telecaster.
  14. I jumped on Studio One when Gibson folded Sonar, and things at the time looked like the end of Sonar. But try as I may and I even upgraded to the V4 I can't get into Studio One. I'm also one of those that is still using Sonar Platinum. My use is basically as a "multi track tape recorder" as I rarely use any MIDI, just all analog tracks and Sonar Platinum does what I need to do. I have the Bandlab version but it doesn't offer anything more for my use.
  15. Update after doing two recording sessions with the Behringer. The only thing I "hear" is a difference in preamps between the Behringer's MIDAS preamps and the preamps in the MOTU 4pre. The Behringer's preamps sound "sterile" for instruments compared to the MOTU's. By "sterile" I guess the best comparison is most solid state P.A. amps are very linear and clean - too clean to be used for a musical instrument amp. I once had a "stereo" amp setup for my Pedal Steel, a Peavey Transtube Fex for preamp and effects and separate power amp. I tried two different P.A. power amps and hated the sound. Found an old Mosvalve 500 power amp designed for guitar amplification and that was the missing sound. But the Behringer did the job, a little EQ on the guitars and steel made the sessions work.
  16. Started Studio One and saw the update notice. Downloaded and installed 4.5.3. No problems.
  17. I'm on the west coast. A little rain from an outer bands but that's all. We lucked out on where Dorian is apparently going rather than the initial projections. I've got in-laws in the Charleston S.C. area that may get more than I got.
  18. I agree the current variety of sound chips such as Realtek are very good and mostly have negated the use of an add on sound card such as SoundBlaster. In this particular case, as its a laptop and no provisions for add on cards, any "upgrade" would have to be a USB connected device.
  19. The 5748 is an Inspiron 15 laptop. There is no way to add an internal sound card. You will need a USB connected recording interface unit. I'm not a Focusrite fan but the UK company's products are popular so start there.
  20. Just to add to what I said about the difference between the Pedal Steel sound on a Focusrite and others. I was recording direct from the steel to a D.I. box to both the Focusrite and MAudio. No mic involved and there is no tone control on the steel, just direct connection to the pickup (in my case a Bill Lawrence 710 model humbucker).
  21. The Focusrite sound isn't bad. My first "real" recording interface was a Saffire Pro 40. I had done some recording with my Saffire Pro 40 and it developed a problem (power switch was bad and wouldn't power on). I needed to fix a Pedal Steel part in a recording to finish it and used my backup MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R and it was brighter and cleaner and I had to EQ it down to make it sound close to the Saffire Pro 40's sound. Later as I moved on from the Saffire Pro 40 to a Roland and then MOTU they all had the almost identical sound to the MAudio. My recent experience trying a Focusrite 2nd gen when I was downsizing my home studio, I was back to the same sound as the Saffire Pro 40. Thus I settled on something other than Focusrite.
  22. If I had a commercial recording studio, I wouldn't be looking at this unit. Not that its not "bad" just not the high end audiophile equipment. In ref to my comment about Focusrite and Presonus. My own thing. I don't like Focusrite preamps - do not sound full fidelity to me. I had a Saffire Pro 40 and I recently tried a 2nd gen unit, still sounds the same. I won't consider Presonus as EVERY recording Presonus interface unit I tried had a hardware problem of one thing or another, new. The last Presonus I tried was a Studio 192. Worked the first day, although very poor latency, powered it on the second day and would not power off with the power switch - was sent back.
  23. I'll admit it up front, I bought a Behringer, UMC 1820, recording interface unit - and I like it. I downsized my home recording studio from a unit with 8 preamps to one with 4 (along with some other items). I was doing OK until I needed more than 4 inputs for a current recording project for a client and will need at least 6 for an upcoming project for another client. After looking at what is available (I hate Focusrite and Presonus hardware) and what I've had in the past it came down to either the "inexpensive" Behringer (that gets good reviews) or something $1000 range similar to what I downsized. So, I bought the Behringer and used it yesterday on a recording session, and did good. Surprisingly the Cakewalk reported latency for a 64 buffer is lower than the MOTU 4pre that I have. If I had a full bore studio or like I was before with high end equipment I wouldn't have looked at Behringer but for a home studio its very adequate. Its not "throw away reverse engineered junk" like early Behringer was.
  24. I have Ozone 5 and 6 but find I mostly use 5 for my "traditional country" mastering. 6 seemed to be a step backward compared to 5. Because 5 does what I need, I haven't found a need to upgrade.
  25. If you still own it, you can download it from Izotope. I had a problem with mine and contacted Izotope and they sent me a link to download it again.
