  1. As for that Top 8, I have six of them, sadly. So much $$$ and hard drive space wasted. Also sadly, I don't have the Ravenscroft, which obviously is highly regarded. One thing in the piano conundrum that gets overlooked is, how much room/reverb is already baked in to the samples? It's a bugger to mix sometimes if you can't start at dry. So that eliminates the EastWest and probably the Synchron. Run like Hades away from Ivory II. I can't believe that old dog is even on that list. Gross! Pianoteq, awesome to play, just meh to mix, but sooooooo easy on resources. Doesn't sound as authentic as they say, but in a mix, on a laptop, perfect. Keyscape is very very good, offers a lot of instruments, and will make you quite satisfied. Probably! The Addictive pianos are more two dimensional sounding but believe it or not, in a good way. And that program is so easy to use and light on resources. But on that list, the piano I would take with me to the desert island is beyond doubt the Garritan. Wish I had bought that one first, instead of last. There is electricity on that desert island, right?!?
  2. This is so calming and wonderful, I really like your instrument choices and how the leads come and go, and blend in spots. Mix is very clear. My one crit might be I left the tune after having listened to it twice, without being able to recall any particular specific melody line. Do your leads just kind of improv meander without a central theme they are playing off of? Or did I just miss the main hook? either way it's pretty wonderful. cheers, -Tom
  3. Wow. Great tune and mix, and guitars, and vocals, especially the vocals. Stellar. that said, I found the bass guitar a bit thin in the mix, FWIW, a litle more bassal support might be worth a shot. And the lead vocal is rubato as hell, very emotional, very very good, but in spots the vocal leads the groove just a hair. I'm thinking maybe check the first verse, if the vocal were slid backwards in time, back straight into that lovely pocket that everything else is in. Nothing like a strong waltz pocket to make a groove like no other. I really only noticed this vocal-ahead-of-pocket thing in the first verse. This song is and the performances are crazy good. cheers, -Tom
  4. This quarky little plugin looks like it has a lot of little quarks.
  5. Cool! I prefer an aisle seat, or Business Class would certainly be acceptable. Is it tux formal, or more Zuckerberg hoodie formal?
  6. Pretty sure all the devs should be BUYING you dinner.
  7. This thread makes me feel bad for inventing the internet. Apologies, everyone.
  8. Excellent vocal, which might be brought forward, or a bit louder in the mix. I think the vocals should be a little louder than the guitars hitting the same cadence - are they? pretty close to even, I think? Bass guitar could have a bit more low-end in this mix, for my tastes. But ymmv, it's a very cool arrangement and has a ton of life in it. Well done! cheers, -Tom
  9. The kaliope-type organ was very alive and breathy, if that's what it was? I liked the middle part especially. It all sounds quite organic. cheers, -Tom
  10. Good mix, nice panning, cool vibes! It's not fair for me to suggest but I really thing all you need is some pithy lyrics. The chord changes are unexpected pleasures. Very good job resurrecting this! cheers, -Tom
  11. We all probably have more plugins than we'll ever need. So why do we still check the Deals forum twice a day?
  12. Would that ProQ3 move be just on the drum bus, or did you do that on the master bus? Just curious, I agree I use ProQ3 on every track.
  13. Drum n Bass n Beatles! Glad I had my good headphones on. Very nice electronic additions all the way through, and that bass was pretty manic. Very cool.
  14. I have both OTS Pear and the Ample ABU. I'd use the ABU almost exclusively these days, but to be fair it's a much newer library than Pear, and costs more. Pear is cool but has a lot of the room baked in. Pear is prolly easier to use, ABU needs a bit more user programming of articulations but sounds better.
  15. #8 when they taught "money doesn't buy happiness" but I learned poverty doesn't buy anything
  16. Loved the whole approach to this mix, so pared down and funky. Vocal treatments were such a treat, and the lyrics are left field wonderful. I'd agree, a bit more of the bass guitar. There's plenty of room. Everything in this is zippy, idiosyncratic, and groovy. Loved it. cheers, -Tom
  17. Plus she has a double-jointed shoulder, which is weird.
  18. This is bump-worthy for the following marketing text, copied from the product description: "If you want to be successful DJ/producer travelling from gig to gig worldwide, enjoying fast supercars, open-air festivals, girls n champagne in backstage, check this monster." I checked it. Now awaiting my full-blown hedonistic midlife crisis . . . lawyers on stand-by if promises are not kept.
  19. I am very very familiar with the original! And I liked your take on it, which is dramatically divergent of course. I was surprised how well the delicate structure of this New Wave classic supported all the awesome heaviness that you hung on it. When I next hear the original version over the thin speakers in the ceiling of Rite-Aid, I'll definitely think of your version and smile. Nice job! Your mix sounded great on my better quality cans, very well done. The doubling of the vocal part had a bit of meander in the sync, and brought up an image of Satan at the karaoke bar on quaaludes. As 40 years have clicked by since 1982, I guess we might expect the ambience of the Metro to have changed. So that's a long-winded Nice Job!!! cheers, -Tom
  20. If you mix on a 4K tv monitor, shouldn't your mixes have more depth? That's a lot of pressure.
  21. I'm waiting for someone to drop they mix in a DAW in a VR. ?
  22. My direct experience has been, both rapid and PCR test for omicron fall far short of anything reliable. I had false negatives for both, when I had Covid that was then confirmed by two positive tests the next day. You could be the local edition of The Masked Singer. Hope you are feeling ok
