Carol Kaye Declines Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction:

I agree with that. When an industry creates awards for itself, much more than what they say the award is about gets involved. Politics and money get involved in the award nominations and winners. I don't care if my favorite artist is in there or snubbed, and if something like this doesn't present itself to me, I don't even know who is in or who is out. But that's just me, others care very much about it, and that's OK, too. -

I read an article about it (didn't watch the video) and personally, I think she is making a wrong decision. And I disagree with her sensitivity about the studio musicians being called The Wrecking Crew. If you are making a mint, doing what you love to do, it doesn't matter what they call you. But it's her choice. Sadly, it doesn't look likely that I'll ever get nominated. But she is still a great bassist, and fine guitarist. -
Me And You And A Dog Named Boo - Lobo A meh song IMO but the songs just have to associate, they don't need to be a favorite. But it's much better than the one I didn't post a video on a while back.

I toured in the 60s and 70s, and I'm doing one-nighters now. I'm singing better than I ever did. Why? I keep at it, and know how to do it to protect my voice. Most pop singers just sing improperly. Why? You don't need lessons to sing. It's easy to sing wrong and still sound good. My high range is better, my low range is fuller, and with the experience I've gained, I'm more expressive. I'm playing sax, wind synth and guitar better than ever, too. Though I haven't improved much on drums, flute, bass, or keyboards. But at today's ticket prices, for a concert, it had better be one of my favorite symphonies. I'll go to a nightclub to hear jazz. And I don't think I'd ever pay to hear a tribute band.

I still have my full range, and I sing to the top, but not all song, every song. If you sing properly, you can sing at the top all night. Opera singers do it all the time. But opera singers are taught proper breath support and how to sing with a relaxed larynx.

Running Bear — Johnny Preston (I don't like the song, so you don't get a video. If curious, search at your own risk).

There are a couple of reasons why so many can't sing anymore: 1) They never learned how to properly breathe. You don't need lessons to sing, so many breathe with their chest instead of diaphragm/belly, don't keep their abdomen muscles tense for breath support, but instead put the tension in their vocal cords. 2) You have to keep on doing it. Not just when you do a tour, but at least a few times per week for a couple of hours. It'd be like deciding to go to a weight lifting competition, when you haven't lifted for 6 months or more. Muscles and flesh need to be constantly kept in shape. I'm in the geezer stage of life, but I am singing better than ever. Why? I'm still gigging for a living, so I do it almost every week, all year long. Plus, I learned how to breathe/sing properly. The breathing is the same for saxophone, and the relaxing of the throat came from the advice of someone who did have lessons.

Beyond The Sea — Bobby Darin We learned this one for a club owner. It's old-school fun to sing.

I don't go to rock concerts at all anymore. I go to the Symphony, if it's one I like and to jazz clubs. But after making a living playing rock for decade after decade, I want to hear something that I can't cover (symphony) or something that will surprise me (jazz improvs). What gets under my skin the most is tribute bands getting big ticket prices. In cover bands, we did everybody and worked in bars for whatever they pay (never enough). This band decides to do nothing but _____ songs and gets big bucks???????? ♫ Insights and incites by Notes ♫

Very few artists make over a billion dollars and can afford to do that. The labels are in the business of exploiting the artist. Very few go 'viral' enough to get rich. That's why there are so many one-hit wonders. But we do it because it's our passion.
