Fulltone Is Closed: Is This The End Of The Boutique Era?
Brian Walton replied to Old Joad's topic in The Coffee House
The quality is starting to get there, but for those that are not just recording parts in a DAW dedicated foot switches and knobs are something a lot of people won't give up. We are a long way off from that as physical gear is still booming - this guy is "getting out" because there are way too many people able to do it for cheaper. The issue isn't so much about a discussion of quality any longer as much it is about people want the interface while they are playing in real time. As much as I like virtual gear it is far more annoying to try to setup a rig that you can interact with like analog gear when playing an instrument standing up not in front of a computer screen. -
uh oh.... and from a business perspective their success in building a strong subscription model adds another bow in how we grow in the audio creation market.

Honeslty by the hour sounds pretty good with so many unknowns....assuming the per hour rate is actually significant and they are not looking for minimum wage labor.

Was thinking the exact same thing today. I'm betting SE becomes much more enticing once users upload a lot more profiled amps. The question is really the issue that you need some specialized hardware beyond an amp, interface and mic to capture the profile that will limit the profiles we see right out of the gate. Not to mention the reports of the profiling to take an hour for a single mic position using a solid spec machine. That will also limit some of what could have been. Honestly the amps IKM has done that I'm interested in seem sparse, and an ala cart amplitude style offering would have been welcome. Those looking for high gain should be in paradise right now though. This technology has a lot of promise but at the same time I also expect we will see a little too much amp + effect built into the patch which in my testing kills dynamics and responsiveness to vol pot changes. just like it tends to do in the real world.

Plugin Alliance: Boom $20 Voucher / Free plugins! (No minimum spend)
Brian Walton replied to MusicMan's topic in Deals
The pandemic helped this industry and it had a massive boom. However, the economy problems started much more recenlty and this year is starting to see a big shift in the market. Not only is there the oversaturation based on that windfall that was 2020 and 2021 for these products, but the same people buying them now also are now hit financially in ways that didn't exist previously due the the economy. Check the stock market plus the current state of inflation and we are talking about massive losses in buying power. Your couple months ago evaluation would now be outdated based on the current state. The plugin market has started to see a massive correction and the attitude here regarding the lack of enticement a the PA sales reflects that. You mention Steven Slate (very small company in the scheme of things)...well no openings on his website for. And even companies that are hiring that isn't always reflective of growth. There have been tons of people leaving a position to do something else and companies have to hire just to maintain - not grow. I'd say investment in this industry right now is risky. PA shifting the sales and market strategy to try to figure out what works right now and what doesn't reflects that fact. They were booming to the point that an investment firm wanted a slice of that pie and now I'm betting things are not looking quite a rosy as they were a few months ago and that has to do with the global economy not some change in the quality of products or services they bring to the table. -
Of course I appreciate fixes but I'm not a deep diver on this kind of software looking for problems to point out. I launched it for the first time and within 10 minutes I found what seems like a bug that required me to restart the application again and again. Maybe the beta testers simply got MAX, or the beta testing should have gone to a few different audiences with different versions. Smoother than some of the other releases, I'll grant them that. But with an install size of 4+gb each "update" is kind of annoying especially as it leaves each zip behind on the OS HD. Product sounds and also feels good from the limited testing I did.

I found this filter to be buggy so far. But when I restart the app I usually get the option to select yes/no related to only showing what you own. After that, all bets are off if i click something else frequently those options seem to go away and then I have to restart to get them back. Hopefully we don't keep seeing the "update is avaiable" over and over again for things that should have been worked out during beta. I mean they released an update the same day it was released already

Yep it arrived eventually. I was concerned they might not honor it.

Humble Painter, PaintShop and VideoStudio Pro 2022 Bundle $30
Brian Walton replied to BTP's topic in Deals
While it is a good value on the surface. I bought 2019 and never used it before getting 2020 the following year. No different than plugins, if you don't end up using it...also money wasted. If it is software you plan to really use, crazy good value. -

That is my experience also as I have two different versions of Painter, CorelDraw, etc. But the listing specifically states DRM Free. Thus why I'm looking for specific confirmation on this deal. -

Any feedback if the 2022 version they are providing is actually DRM-Free? -
Humble Painter, PaintShop and VideoStudio Pro 2022 Bundle $30
Brian Walton replied to BTP's topic in Deals
Well this is interesting, the deal changed this morning. On my end I now see that the middle bundle is fixed price and also includes Painter Yesterday it included Paint Shop instead and the middle tier was the only pay above the average. Ive done a lot of these bundles over many years. I've seen some changes to wording after they catch something, but changing the tiers like this is a new one to me. -

Now I'm not on a great machine for this example but in terms of resources they are in two totally different catergories -

Cost of paying more than the average to get the middle bundle vs getting Painter 2022 seems completly negligable, and Painter is the most "valuable" program in the lot. -
Humble Painter, PaintShop and VideoStudio Pro 2022 Bundle $30
Brian Walton replied to BTP's topic in Deals
Might be a region thing, in the USA there is no need to BTA to get the top tier bundle. It is strightup $30 (only more if you choose). This is the part I want to know about. Is Painter 2022 here actually DRM-Free? I have 2019 and 2020 and both are the typical 2 computer limit authorization. If I can install this one on a handfull of my own machines, I'm interested again. -
Fulltone Is Closed: Is This The End Of The Boutique Era?
Brian Walton replied to Old Joad's topic in The Coffee House
I've got dozens of "boutique" pedals. Only Fulltone I had on the board for a while was a Deja Vibe (though I've tried most everything they ever made). There are so many fulltone pedals on the market that it doesn't even feel like "boutique" is even appropriate at this point. Glad they had a long run, but not having them made any longer isn't going to be earth shattering. Tons of other stuff on the market plus these are not the kind of thing that ends up in a landfill very often. Those that got made will still work for a long long time and can be repaired when/if the Caps crap out some day. There was a time where Fulltone was one of the only easily available hand built options. Now everyone and their brother is a pedal builder. There are a few things the market will lose with this annoucemnet - the actual real world tape delay and the tri chorus. Other builders are not really going to spend time with that kind of stuff. Everything else is well covered, IMO. -

I never picked up anything from Izotope from the PA_EXT but the other ~5 or so I bought previously were delivered in a couple minutes...so this is "different" -

https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products/izotope-neoverb.html You need both a monthly voucher code by signing up to their email prior to this month as well as the "boom" voucher in the thread. Note, I haven't heard or see anyone actually report they got the redemption code yet. Half a day later I'm still waiting. -
DId you actually get an email with a code after this? How long did it take? Ordered 1 hr ago here and nothing so far.

Does this "Komplete" include Absynth? I'll get my coat. ?
-
I haven't tested it yet, thought the same but the reviews mentioning how much of a resource hog it is (based on the way the thing operates) has keep me at bay.
-
I'm in the same boat due to Nembrini Sales (and realistically only had my eye on the new Suhr amp as I have all the other good PA ones since that has some overlap with the NA ones, not feeling too compelled) That said, depending on what you have from PA it can be more or less Tempting. Train II and Buxom are quite unique (unless you paid crazy UA money already for them). But lots of the other ones do have quite a bit of overlap from other vendors and then it comes down to which you prefer. Then again this, new $25 voucher puts things like the Amek 9099 console at $15. That is crazy good.

Software is a different beast than analog hardware. Computer Based Synths that are 20 years old had a pretty heavy wall they were up against with computer power and functionality. I'm not going to suggest they didn't make some cool sounds (they certainly did) but it isn't really comparable to guitar hardware (tube amps, etc).
-
All depends on what you want and are looking for. This puts many of the amps at all time lows with the voucher. $5 (Chandler) and $10 for a plethora of the newer amps is basically as good as it has ever been. The lack of $20 is annoying since we would still have to pay for transfers with this current situation. But those looking to pick up amps, even when they ran the $20 vouchers - many of these amps would have been at a $40 tier with a few at the $30 thus this is as good or better for those prospective buyers.
