  1. I too had forgotten who these guys are, but then I remembered that they actually have a pretty famous product line:
  2. I am so glad to hear this. Please keep us posted how her recovery goes.
  3. Related: https://www.humblebundle.com/software/photo-editing-cyber-bundle-with-luminar-ai-software
  4. I checked out the demo for Affinity Photo 2. There are still the same small annoyances that are in v1: No way to close all open files without a) closing the app and b) getting a confirmation dialog for each modified file. I often have more than a dozen files open at the same time. Cropping an image when zoomed in really close is annoying, because you can resize the area only from certain points and if they are out of view you need to do a lot of panning. I often need to crop transparent PNG images where the widest or tallest part of the image is not conveniently either in the middle or in the top or bottom. (And no, I can't automatically trim off the transparency in this case.) In Gimp each side has big grabbable areas (see image below), which is so incredibly nice that I don't understand why that feature hasn't been copied to every other image editing program. There is no way to resize a rectangular selection without drawing new rectangulars. I never get my selection right the first time and either end up doing it multiple times or getting weirdly shaped selections. Gimp's selection tool works like the crop tool. I struggle with these three so often that if they had fixed them I would have coughed up the money right away. One annoyance that they seem to have fixed is crop tool aspect ratio amnesia. In v1 if I want to to crop multiple images using the same aspect ratio, I need to set it again for each image when I select the crop tool. In v2 it remembers the previous setting. Below: When you use the crop or selection tool in Gimp and move the pointer (not shown) close to the edge of your selection, an area is highlighted that you can click and drag to resize the selection. It's worth noting that this area is pretty big (the image is actual size), so you can easily hit it even if you have poor motor control.
  5. I suppose enrolling on a Udemy course is not enough to qualify?
  6. Now that's a novel idea. Anyhow, there are two things I don't understand about vintage hardware emulation plugins: I can rarely hear that "buttery warm smoothness" or whatever it is that vintage gear supposedly adds to the sound. I'm not saying it's not there, just that my ears are either too far gone or not there yet. I can usually hear that it sounds different than other plugins doing the same thing, but I wouldn't say it actually sounds better. Sometimes I hear this additional noise that I'm not sure I want. I find it very hard to believe that half a century (or more) of progress in software and hardware has not been able to improve the sound quality and other features, and that these are somehow better than current plugins that are not trying to emulate hardware. I mean, if you're trying to go for the specific sound that these plugins provide then sure. But if you're trying to get the best possible sound, then are units from the 60s really the best there is? That said, most people here have more experience with mixing than me and I get empathetically excited whenever you guys do, so I'm demoing it. So far I'm not convinced but I might just buy it because FOMO.
  7. Ah, sorry. I forgot it was you. Still, my suspicion is that the sales are not what they were expecting and that's why they're extending it. There were lots of annoyed posts about the pricing on Affinity forums back then.
  8. Yup, but that was for new users. Now they're selling the upgrade for the same price as new licenses.
  9. I don't know what an LA2A is or if if I already have one, so I think I'll better pass buy this just in case.
  10. Are there other good synthetic (string) orchestras besides Solid State Symphony and AAS Analog Orchestra? I'm looking for something with a little bit of oomph and rumbling low end in it. I'm not sure if it's just the demos, but Analog Orchestra especially sounds almost delicate.
  11. My thoughts exactly. I for one am still waiting for a better price.
  12. https://www.toontrack.com/product/seventies-rock-ezx/ Normally €80. (If someone can tell me the price in dollars I'll update the title.) I think this expires on 13th of December at 2 PM CET. All deals (just this one at the moment): https://www.toontrack.com/holiday-deal-week/
  13. Doesn't seem to be a good time to buy components. Prices have gone way up. I got a 4 TB Samsung QVO SSD for €280 last year. It was a special offer, but still.
  14. Alas, the website for evil cats seems to be gone.
  15. Aww! She's as cute as a button with a bow tie. Thank you for these.
  16. So sorry to hear this. I promise to buy something to support the poor sausage. Losing our family cat years ago (to old age) was one of the most painful moments of my life and she was a real pest most of the time, so I can understand how gut wrenching your situation must be. Let's hope the operation is successful and you get to take your dog for walks again. If it's not too much to ask, could you post a picture of her?
  17. Safe travels and have fun! Maybe we should create a dummy account with username "ccIarry" (with a capital i) and use that to post some deals every now and then? @Edith what do you think? (that was a joke too, in case someone didn't get it)
  18. Ouch. I just sent their support an email. Sorry for ruining it for everybody else but this is so obviously a mistake, and a pretty big one too, that I had to let them know.
  19. Also available at AudioDeluxe with $1.45 in DeluxeBucks.
  20. You're probably right, so I removed the link. Where did you find it?
  21. Nice find! I got Wavesynth Glow & Cinema Pro for $0. Thanks!
  22. Sorry to derail the thread once again... I can't say for sure about any of that, but that is not my general impression. Please don't take this as an attack because it's not, but I want to offer my counter-opinions to yours: There are a lot of professional composers there who work with orchestral libraries daily. I'd say that makes at least some of them experts. Hans Zimmer at least is, though I don't think he has shared his opinion about any library. Of course there are also people who don't know much about anything, but that's why you should never take anyone's opinion as the holy truth. I have no idea if they are easily attracted to new. I'd guess not anymore than folks over here. What I do know that whenever someone asks for recommendations, the usual suspects tend to pop up, not the latest and shiniest libraries. Like I wrote earlier, Sordino Strings got a lot of praise when it was released but not much publicity after that. In a few threads where it was later mentioned people still liked the sound but disliked the interface. There is a pretty strict of code of conduct, but I have definitely seen people often saying bad things about libraries even if the developer is there. There are fan clubs for sure, but I'd say that there are more than enough people who love to point out the different flaws a library has to counter whatever positive bias there might otherwise be. I think the biggest weakness of VI-Control is that people over there seem to have very, very deep pockets. So if you'd ask there if you should buy some $50 library, many would reply "no, buy this $500 library instead". VI-Control is not perfect but it's the best I've found. You need to read a lot of the threads there to learn the general direction of the wind and when recommendations and opinions should be taken with a grain of salt, but if you can point me to a better source of information about orchestral libraries I'd love to hear it. Seriously, because that kind of information is really hard to come by and these things are expensive.
  23. Any comment? Here's some from VI-Control: Then again, this library didn't come up when someone asked for a favorite sordino string library, but there weren't any sub $50 libraries listed anyway. I forgot I had these so I haven't used them, but the demos sound really sweet. If I didn't have them I would be very tempted.
  24. You're right. It shows €99 when you put it in the cart. It's also possible that the €74.90 in my receipt was a discounted price, I can't remember. The €299 is still strange, though. I would expect their website to fetch the prices straight from the product database.
