Is 1 true when playing PCM sounds in the GR-55? If so that would indicate a problem with the Godin. Note that you have setting up the GK pickup (or piezos), setting up the PCM sounds in a patch, setting up MIDI, and if you're using vsts or software or external HW they have to be setup as well. Hammer-ons and pull-offs work fine for me. Again, does it work with PCM models on the GR-55? When you start working with external MIDI equipment they need to be setup to work together. Do the bend ranges correspond?

The SY-1000 is more a successor to the VG-99. One of the synth models is a dynamic synth - it doesn't really track, it modifies the wave form of the guitar's strings signals. There is no real latency and it's very expressive. It can model the common analog wave forms. There is also an OSC model, but that can get some latency and demands clean playing. It also has the ability to do gtr2MIDI, but then you have the usual tracking issues. I like the SY-1000.

A couple videos of the GR-55 Jack changes voicings around 4 1/2 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvM8HAcyjJw Alex Hutchings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syebI6c30cI

I use hex pickups; I have a Godin xtsa, ACS nylon, and a strat with a GK2A. I mostly use a Boss SY-1000 which is more like an analog synth, but it does have GTR2MIDI and I have a GR55 and a few other units. When you setup the guitar in the GR55 most people like the string sensitivity lower than what Roland recommends. Below 70% and IIRC mine may be around 30 - 40%. Palm muting is important. If you're not familiar with it vguitarforums.com is a good resource for all things VG, GR, SY related. Have fun.

I set the laptop up in my home studio and the Boss SY-1000 works fine with the USB 3.2 gen 1 port (SY-1000 is USB 2). The MOTU MIDI express XT works with it as well. I noticed that the USB 2 spec has a couple revisions, it may be that some older units have problems due to the revs.

That's interesting. Not many manufacturers are stepping up to USB 3; I wonder if they're they testing for compatibility? The QC is an old IF so, I'm not surprised there are compatibility problems.

I got a new laptop, an MSI Crosshair 15. When I plugged a Roland Quad-Capture into the USB 3.2 gen 1 port the QC didn't like it. It's fine in the USB 2.0 port and that's no problem. I'm curious if anyone knows what the problem is using some USB 2.0 devices with 3.2 ports?

I don't have an Axe-Fx, but if I understand the signal flow ... In CbB Audio track 1 has a filter & 2 aux track sends. Aux 1 has MultiCp and GEQ & Aux 2 has Cab and PEQ. The track one sends will be pre and the track fader turned all the way down. This will be true for mix 1 and 2 as well. Create an aux track for the output of aux 1 and set the output of aux 2 to it as well - call it mix 1 and put T-match & chorus on it. Mix 1 has 2 aux track sends - aux 3 & 4, one has Synth and the other has Comp and their outputs go to another aux track - mix 2. Mix 2 has 2 aux track sends - aux 5 & 6 and each has a delay and their outputs go to another aux track mix 3. Most reverbs have a mix control so I wouldn't bother with putting reverb on a parallel track so, mix 3 has Vol/Pan, Reverb, GEQ and Enhance. On the sends and outputs reduce the volume by 5 db or so.

I thought there was a limit for some time. I normally link to images. If you want to display a screenshot you need to upload it to a file sharing site.

As an FYI I played around with TH3 a bit and it looks like they want the loudest chord you can play to be 0 dB. At that level I'm running around -2 or -3 dB. If you don't have any vsts on the track what is loudest level you get with that Line 6?
-
If your IF has an instrument input use that. Check to see if there are any buttons or switches to change the input level between line level and instrument level. If not then you'll need to use a preamp.

I'm guessing you're writing about Axe IO Solo and not Axe Fx. And you have a separate expression pedal or some kind of foot controller plugged into it? After selecting the Axe i/o as a midi input source in the preferences menu, create a MIDI track and select Axe i/o as the track input and select echo on. Inside AT5 or any vst you're using (in an audio track) select the VST2/3 in the top bar and select Enable MIDI Input. In AT5 you then right click on a knob and select listen and move the expression pedal.

What software are you using?

You don't say what you're trying to do. I use a Roland FC-300 foot controller. Connect to the computer with a MIDI IF, in your case an IF cable. In Edit preferences select it under MIDI -> Devices -> Input. Create a MIDI track, select your MIDI IF as the track input and select echo on. The fcb1010 is popular with guitarists. If you have an amp sim on an audio track, say AT5, select the VST2/3 in the top bar and select Enable MIDI Input. In AT5 you then right click on a knob and select listen and move a foot pedal.

I have the M4 set to 128. I like 96, but the M4 doesn't have that option in ASIO mode. Forgot that.

My DAW is hardwired to the LAN so Airplane mode isn't available. I use wifi on my laptop, but don't record on it. I practice on it and play around but have a quad capture on it.

I get the occasional pop, but that's because I'm running on windows and it has background processes running. When I record I disable the network adapter and haven't had any problems. I normally have the IF set at 44 and a buffer size of 96. The M4 works fine into a USB 3 port on an ASUS MB.

I use the M4 with my DAW and haven't had any problems with it.

I still have a Sustainor and equalizer, I'll have to see if they still work. My ADA MP 1 has started to die. I need to take it in for repairs ...

I think it can be confusing. The patch numbers are listed as 1-128, but MIDI is Musical Instrument Digital Interface (IIRC). It's a digital bus and the program change message has two bytes, status and data. The data has the program number and the values are specified as 0-127 in a MIDI program change message. So, yeah, it's technical. Along the same lines MIDI channels are displayed as 1-16, but in the status byte they are represented as 0-15.

Which freebies (and near-freebies) encouraged you to buy a paid product?
rsinger replied to Starship Krupa's topic in Deals
For near freebies, many lite versions that came with Cakewalk over the years. I bought the nomad factory plugins, I upgraded TH-2 and went to TH-3 and TH-U, I upgraded breverb and rematrix. I've upgraded melodyne. Some HW I bought came with ableton live lite and I upgraded that and it's current. -
Have you looked under instruments? Depending on your layout, on the far right select the Plugins tab and below the Plugins tab select Instruments and mine is under Uncategorized. I don't use Biab as a plugin, but thought I'd check it out...
