Capture recording - Best recording option ever
Jim Fogle replied to Sonarman's topic in Feedback Loop
I watched the video. While watching the video a number of questions came to my mind. I hope you'll share your thoughts with me and clarify your suggestion. It appears Logic Pro is capturing midi in the video, please correct me if I'm incorrect. Does the feature capture audio when the input is audio? Is the DAW going to record in the background every time the play button is hit and the feature is enabled? Do you want the feature to be enabled and disabled with a transport button? Aren't you afraid the feature will mess with storage access by recording while the user is in the process of setting up a sampler or another feature that requires storage access? What's to remind you when the feature is enabled or disabled? -
Acoustic Guitar Impulse Responses
Jim Fogle replied to Bill Phillips's topic in Instruments & Effects
@Bill Phillips & @User 905133, Again, I apologize. I understand using an impulse response to recreate a space but I am not familiar with using an IR to recreate the sound of an instrument. Thank you for your responses. I missed @msmcleod post first go around so this post didn't make sense to me. After checking out Mike's post, this post makes much better sense. -
Acoustic Guitar Impulse Responses
Jim Fogle replied to Bill Phillips's topic in Instruments & Effects
@Bill Phillips, Excuse my questions but I've never heard of impulse responses (IR) used in thae manner your describing so I'm trying to better understand your process. So you're using the impulses to help your electric guitar sound like an acoustic or to make one acoustic brand sound like a Martin? What plugin are you using the impulses in? -
Using Midi FX with Simple Instruments
Jim Fogle replied to Mark Morgon-Shaw's topic in Feedback Loop
Many laptops have touchscreen in addition to a keyboard. Even with a 13 inch to 17 inch screen, some of the items have a small focus area. -
I think having a translate button on the reply window menu is a great way to indicate this forum welcomes all users of Cakewalk by Bandlab and BandLab to the forum. The Google Translate webpage settings recognize the computer operating system keyboard selection and takes an educated guess of text language pasted into the translate box. It is also possible to use an intermediate translation if needed.

Old Windows graphics on minimized window
Jim Fogle replied to Sergio Miranda's topic in Feedback Loop
A user's idea of how Windows looks depends on the Windows theme and display settings you set the operating system to use. You can make Windows 10 look like Windows 7 or earlier if you desire. -
Google Translate is also a webpage. I envisioned my suggestion as a link that opens a new webpage to the Google Translate webpage

MIDI 2.0 Specs Now Available for Download
Jim Fogle replied to TheSteven's topic in The Coffee House
The MIDI 1.0 specification was adapted in 1983. Initially, the MIDI 1.0 specification was only available to the public for a $60 US fee. The Midi Manufacturers Association or MMA charged the fee to cover the cost of duplicating, collating and mailing the specification. In 2016 the MMA began providing the MIDI 1.0 specification as a downloadable pdf file . The fee was finally dropped. This time the MIDI 2.0 specification was released in January, 2020 and is available to members as a 4.6 MB zip file download one month later. Membership is free to anyone with an email address. That's progress! To me the interesting information right now is not that the specification is available as a download but that a committee is actively working on the transport specification for MIDI 2.0 data packets over USB. The USB cable connection is the most common method of carrying MIDI between devices. Getting that specification finalized and published will open the door for both MIDI 1 and MIDI 2 data messages to be moved between devices. -
@locrian, why knock it? Have you tried it?

- The Beatles Game - (Hofner Website Link)
Jim Fogle replied to Jim Fogle's topic in The Coffee House
@craigb I've heard some people dispute that and mention they think "Revolution #9" is the best Beatles song. Me, I think "Hey Bulldog" is an under rated treasure. -
Purrfect Audio is a good solution. Even though audio computers are kind of rare, several other solutions exist. What I find unique are the combination of an embedded 64 bit Windows operating system and integrated audio and midi interface. In my opinion I believe having a built-in operating system and interface minimizes the need for driver and operating system updates which should make for a more stable system than adapting a general purpose computer for audio use

Acoustic Drums Converted to MIDI for Drum VSTi
Jim Fogle replied to John Nelson's topic in Instruments & Effects
If you're interested, drum triggers are pretty easy to make. Here is a recent article that's all about drum triggers: https://drummagazine.com/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-drum-triggers-but-were-afraid-to-ask/ Here is a step-by-step construction guide that suggests you can build a trigger for less than $5 US in parts: https://drummagazine.com/do-it-yourself-drum-triggers/ There are also plenty of how to videos on YouTube. Of course you can buy aftermarket triggers to retrofit acoustic drums instead of making your own. Many drummers are picky, picky, picky about their drums and may feel uncomfortable with you taping triggers to their drums. One way around that is to mount several triggers to several drum heads. Then you can offer to provide your drum heads for the recording session so both the acoustic and midi can be captured. -
@Tezza, Like you I approach guitar VSTi from a guitar player viewpoint more than a keyboard player viewpoint so I'm gathering a lot of important information from your observations. Many people suggest you need to think like an instrument "x" player to get a Instrument "x" VSTi to sound authentic. My guess is many VSTi designers do not play the instrument they design so when an instrument "x" player tries to use the VSTi it is more difficult to use than it needs to be. There are multiple reasons why I'm so interested in guitar VSTi. I have no interest in recording my guitar playing. I live in a very noisy area and I'm a terrible musician! But I understand music from a guitar perspective and most popular music has one or more guitar tracks. I like working with midi so guitar VSTi makes sense for me.

Per Google Translate Milton said: Firefox offers multiple translate plugin extensions. I downloaded the recommended extension but haven't tried it yet. The recommended extension automatically sends highlighted text to Google Translate. Look close and be careful as a few of the extensions have negative reviews.

I recently came across the Seelake AudioStation website. Seelake is an Italian manufacturer of purpose built audio computers. Does anyone in the forum use their products or have any experience with them? http://seelake.com/en/allproducts.html

I recently saw a thread where the forum member posted in another language. One of the responses was (paraphrase) "Post in English". Cakewalk by BandLab is part of BandLab Technologies which is an international community with staff located across the globe. As the program gains a user base around the globe there will be more and more instances of forum members posting in a language beside English. I believe it is important for all BandLab and Cakewalk by BandLab users to feel comfortable, welcome and appreciated as forum members. The forum is the best way for program users to provide feedback and allow the program to grow. One way the forum can be more user friendly is to add a "Translate" button to the menu at the top of the response window. The "Translate" button would open a Google Translate window. The "Translate" button should automatically sense the computer operating system language and be able to translate from the operating system language into English. When the "Enter" key is pressed on the computer keyboard the original message and translated message are posted. This provides every forum user an easy way to post their message in a format that will be easy for all forum members to read.

Проблемы с аудио CWBL при использовании asio и reac
Jim Fogle replied to Анатолий Семенов's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@Noel Borthwick previously responded in an earlier post that English is the preferred forum language so @lapasoa just repeated what has already been stated. Unfortunately that was some time ago and I did not find Noel's post when I performed a quick search. Having said that Google Translate is our friend and it is pretty easy for all readers to translate a post written in a different language into English. It helps when another forum member with a good command of English follows up and provides whatever nuance and context Google Translate misses. The primary language of the staff is English so it makes sense the staff prefers English in forum posts when those posts report issues. Otherwise, perhaps English in a post is a courtesy but not as important as the poster feeling comfortable, welcome and engaged. -
This thread is turning into a really interesting discussion of guitar VSTi. @Tezza and @David Baay thanks for sharing your observations.

Jim Fogle replied to Starship Krupa's topic in Feedback Loop
@mettelus, I also am curious how the disabled ones differ from the newer ones. Having said that, all I have are the ones that are disabled in CbB since I don't have Sonar.
